Chris Fallica says Nico will not play this weekend.

I don't know if Heupel would say both days that he's "ready to roll" and then just not play him. I think he'll play.

He pulled the same move 2 years ago with Tillman though. He has no reason to be straightforward about any injury.

The only reason the NFL is clear about it is because it is in their rules. They have to be as clear as possible about injuries. In CFB, the SEC asks you to be truthful but it is a vague "scouts honor" type truth.

It looks to me that the best anyone can confirm is that Nico was checked for a concussion. No one has said that they found that he suffered a concussion.

“Protocol” just means they took precautions and checked.
This is what people are missing and precisely how this whole thing is supposed to work. Concussion protocol doesn't mean "concussion", it means it is possible, and even if it isn't once the player enters the "protocol" they follow through to be on the safe side.

I agree this could 100% be the case but the fact he didn't even come out of the locker room with his parents until after the State game is concerning. It means even if he didn't have a severe concussion, he did get licked pretty good.

He's got 1 interception. How is he reckless? Because of the Alabama game? If he couldn't play, CJH wouldn't have him on the team. They didn't even sniff a QB in the portal with a RS Freshman, Freshman, and RA Senior. Apparently the staff knows more than you, and are comfortable with what he's able to do.
He's got 2. Threw one against UTC as well.

yep, it means at the very least they suspected a concussion, and the first thing you do is give your senses a rest. it could be very mild, and they entered protocol because it was MSU and have a backup to manage the game, but they still entered protocol.

One thing Josh Heupel has shown himself really adept at, over and over again these past four years, is patterning the game plan and the play selections around what his players are capable of achieveing.

And Josh knows Gaston Moore almost better than his own children.

So between a kick-ass defense, a superb running game, and a QB that Josh can almost play like he's holding nintendo controls, I think we're gonna be fine if Nico has to sit this one out.

Go Vols!
I actually agree with this. Gaston showed that he could take over the reigns. I don't feel like this is a huge drop off at QB. If he can not fumble or throw an interception, that puts him in a better position all things considered. Nico drops the ball when hit from behind like no one I have ever seen.
I'm actually more concerned with the overall team injury bug. We had a lot of guys going down in that last game. I'm afraid we've got four or five of our key players out there operating at 75%.

Does anyone have a link to where UT releases the required SEC injury report today? I believe it's due by 5pm or something but I can't find a link to watch.

It will likely still say "questionable" but it's at least an official update.

My gut says Nico doesn't play. I think it's the combination of concussion and whatever was going on with his left shoulder that aren't in his favor.

Depending on the shoulder injury, he might need to make minor changes in handling the snap, bringing up the ball, securing it during a sack or run, etc. With the concussion protocol limiting his practice snaps and work, it makes it harder to see what he needs to work on with the shoulder, if anything.

IFFFFFFFF, he sits this one out, I would keep him out of the UTEP game also. Make sure he is 100% against Vandy which will be a very tough game, especially if they could potentially insure we don't make the playoffs with a 3rd loss, assuming we lose to UGA, which I hope not!.

There's absolutely nothing that says he has a shoulder injury other than people making assumptions based on a 30 second video.

Latest reports say he was dressed and practiced yesterday. If that's true he will play

The same take over 90 percent of Vol fans have had. Most all realistic fans had us losing this game.
I doubt your 90% estimate. I usually don't give myself up to "expectations"... and I am very realistic. UT has issues in the passing game. Those who had UT losing this game for a long time... weren't being "realistic" because they had no way of knowing what Nico and the passing game would be. Most believed the secondary would be the downfall... and it isn't.

All that said, the "realist" has to look at both sides. Beck hasn't been anywhere near as good as expected. He has flashes of both greatness... and being awful. He is the worst QB in the SEC for interceptions... and 4th in TD passes. UGA is still talented and "good" on D but nothing like past teams... except when they are. They're allowing 306 per game which is pretty good but they're like Beck- hot and cold. They hold Texas to 259 yds in Austin then give up almost 400 to Ole Miss. Maybe the biggest factor though is that they've been consistently bad in the run game.

Again, I don't think 90% of Vol fans are completely blind to UGA's vulnerabilities.

I see what you are saying but more than anything Nico needs experience. If the Vols get into the playoff they'll need him to step up his game. Every snap matters.

Just saying I looked at a lot of fans prediction, most had us losing this game.

I think it will be game time before we really know if Nico playing or not. Hype doesn't ever say anything but coach speak about injuries.

Don't expect clarity when the injury report comes out. He will be listed as questionable or maybe probable with no real distinction in the likelihood of him playing either way. Doubtful they'll declare him "out" or in.
If this is part of gamesmanship, he will be questionable on all of the reports and end up a "gametime decision."

They later said in the volquest two minute drill that he did

We got em on here wanting clicks too…. lol

News about Nico is like the new best fishing lure that just came out…the people who can’t catch fish will buy them.

And as the world turns…
Nico has concussion
Nico not playing
Nico might play
Nico playing
Nico has bruised ribs

Moore is nowhere near as capable as Nico, hence why he's the backup.

ZERO chance with Moore to beat GA.

* I guess that one pass INT was JH holding the Nintendo controls...

There's always a chance.

Beck may have another poor performance and throw multiple ints. The key will be up to the defense stopping GA's offense and pressuring the hell out of Beck, and then the UT offense taking their time and having a successful running game.

2 interceptions actually with limited playing time (Terrible read and pass during UTC game)... slung it deep 3 times right off bat last week (with wide open underneath receiver)... multiple bad balls thrown... Yea I would say that isn't a great sign going on the road to UGA. I don't doubt for a second staff knows more than me, but don't forget Heupel was hell bent on Milton being clear starter before Hooker replaced him only bc of injury. Gaston has been with Heupel since UCF and has never sniffed the possibility of starting for any of his teams. Nico came in and got the nod last year over him even though he had been in system for multiple years. Gaston is here bc he knows the system, not bc he is a starting SEC QB.
