I want to try this cigar: A. Fuente Don Carlos Robusto, favorite of trumpet legend Arturo Sandoval. Opinions?

Having smoked two of them in the last week, I recommend them. And yes, the jazz featured in the soundtrack of the Bosch Legacy TV series did prompt me to pay full retail per stick at my local cigar shop.

That's good enough for me! Been to two live performances when Sandoval played. He's a magnificent & a friend of the Fuente family. I'll be getting those cigars.

Awhile back, Thompson had a sale - 4 5-packs for $69 (limited selection). I bit, and my order arrived. Oliva MB3s and Macanudo Inspirados are familiar to me. Having enjoyed the RP vintage 2003 Cameroons, I elected to try The Edge maduros. The Ave Marias are new to me.

5 pack fever?
I got 5 Macassar grand toros and 5 Black Market Churchills for $60- I think that a good deal.

This Ave Maria Immaculata has a large intricate band. I removed it right after taking this picture. It’s a “super-robusto” at 5x52. Good draw, clouds of smoke. Definitely Nicaraguan filler in a shade grown wrapper. Medium body with a flavor of toasted almonds right after lighting. It’s smooth, but I wouldn’t characterize it as mellow (Thompson’s description). A hint of leather in the first third, yielding to notes of cedar.

Into the second third, I can understand why Thompson describes this as mellow. It’s burning perfectly. It’s a well made cigar.

This was decent for being outside watching watching the Bengals and throwing frisbee with my dog.
CAO Cameroon L’Anniversaire. Robusto, box pressed, great burn, good smoke. If I had to guess I’d say tastes of coffee and nutty.

This crisp, sunny Fall morning, I’m trying a RP Edge maduro toro. It’s a full bodied spicy cigar with chocolate and a hint of caramelized sugar, well made, good draw, clouds of smoke, firm ash. @Gandalf, have you tried one of these?

Edit: Gotta say, this is a smooth cigar with full flavor and a hint of… mint in its final third.

I think a picture almost mandatory?

I dont normally consider RP a "premium" brand and some of their other stuff leaves to be desired but I have indeed had that very cigar and it is pretty tasty and decently made for the price. It has been awhile but I do remembers it had a bit of pepper in it. Some sweet molasses too though.

You and Tin both need to try the RP Sixty. It’s a little pricey but I really enjoyed it. It is absolutely the best RP cigar I have smoked.

Speaking of which, my budget has me looking for deals at ~$4/stick and selecting cigars to try from the proffered inventory. I’ll still buy my favorite AFs. A free shipping offer got me to pull the trigger on a box of Rothschilds at ~$6/stick. Cannot touch that at the local cigar shops.
