Citrus Bowl Bound per Brett McMurphy [its official]

As we sit around for the next month debating how much the Vols win by, I'm thinking 8-5 would be a huge hit to the Heupel approval rating. On the other hand, 9-4 ain't bad and Iowa would clearly be the signature win of the season. Good times ahead.

Their worst loss was probably the one they suffered at home against Minnesota, who ended the season with a losing record (5-7). Their 10 wins came against teams that finished with a combined record of 55 wins & 65 losses.
They were screwed by an illegal fair catch on a game winning punt return for a TD on that game. Same weekend we played Alabama.

Also a ******** call.

Score a couple times and it could be over.
Stop the run and it's over. Traditionally Iowa wants the big 400 lb-ers to just move the blockers so the backs can run. Get a couple of scores on the board and they struggle to catch up. Will be interesting to see if their D can catch our receivers (provided they actually catch the ball); same with our backs, one juke & they're gone.
I guess boring is good if we win. Haven't we beaten Iowa a bazillion times?

Nah he had his shot and screwed it all up. It should be Nico's game. Milton needs to put his application in at the car wash

Milton's going to start this game, whether or not you think he should. He's then going to go make enough money in the NFL to build his own chain of carwashes.

Check back in on 1/1/24.

I thought about that and our worst loss being the 2nd half collapse at bama.

Will we get the ACC officials again? They can’t screw better than SEC’s officials, but was it the ACC that robbed us of a winning TD against Purdue? I’m worried that FSU’s snub will be like Viagra for the ACC’s officials.
They can't screw us any worse than the BAMA refs. Notice how they rarely called holding on Bama during their game against Georgia. The SEC wanted Bama to win, can't convince me otherwise & was hoping both Ga & Bama would get in. Glad GA is out, Bama shouldn't have been let in either. Politics.

The Vols are good at scoring early. It is not much of an exaggeration to say that if we score a TD on our opening drive, like we often do, the game is nearly out of reach for the Hawkeyes.

The offense is so bad that the AD had to contractually oblige the Head Coach to fire his own son of he couldnt score 25 pts per game- a mark they came no where close to reaching.

I think as a gesture of good sportsmanship we should share with the Hawkeye message borders how to track airplanes for a potential offensive coordinator search.

This is actually a matchup I wanted to see from a stylistic perspective. I'll be interested to see how Huepel's offense plays up against a big 10 juggernaut of a defense.

Also I would find it funny if we, as a third place SEC east team beat their conference champion runner up.
So what will it say if we beat Iowa much worse than Michigan did? LOL. That's what I would like to see.

I'm fairly confident 99% of you all haven't seen Iowa play a single down & jus wanna complain and whine cause our D gave up points to GEORGIA, ALABAMA, MIZZ.... 3 really good offenses.. Iowa's offense is terrible. Theys a reason they had games o/u only in the 20s... Jesus ppl.

Their QB could come out and play like
the next Manning but I highly doubt it.

Yes, anything is possible, but Iowa is ranked dead last in total offense (238.8 ypg) and 127th in passing, ranked ahead of only the wishbone/option-oriented service academies. To further contextualize things, we average significantly more per rushing attempt (5.59 yards) than Iowa does per pass attempt (4.96 yards).

Yea, and they ain’t too bad. If I thought like you I believe I would find something else to occupy my time.
Stop, you’re gonna make me bust out crying. It’s called facts, Tennessee has a ton of injuries and a quarterback that wouldn’t start for Mississippi gulf coast community college.

Vandy put up 24 against our defense my guy
Vandy got 2 meaningless garbage TDs at the end of a blowout game, one after we fumbled a punt inside our own 10. Context matters.

Iowa won its last 2 regular season games to Illinois and Nebraska, two 5-7 teams in the Big 10 West, by a combined 5 points.

Iowa played 2, yes TWO, ranked teams all season and didn’t score a point against either, losing 31-0 to Penn State and 26-0 to Michigan. They went AN ENTIRE SEASON WITHOUT SCORING A SINGLE POINT AGAINST A RANKED OPPONENT. Has Tennessee ever done that? They also lost to 5-7 Minnesota. They played a mid-major schedule in what amounts to a mid-major division.

In the Penn State game, Iowa ran a mere 33 offensive plays, during which:
17 were runs, totalling 20 yards. Of the 16 passes, only 6 were completed. They fumbled SIX times, losing possession 4 times, and
the Iowa defense was on the field for almost 46 of the game's 60 minutes.

But yeah, we should be scared of Iowa.

My guy.

This could be the first contemporary college football game in eons where an analogy to Neyland-era Tennessee football is genuinely applicable. I believe that it was one of the General's former players who once said that if "[he] scored a touchdown on you, he had you beat. If he scored two, the rout was on."
