I may get crucified for this, but I’m going to say it anyways. Several things I’ve noticed all year, not just tonight.
1- the play calling has been super conservative all year. I get Nico is young, and coaches don’t want to get him hurt. Understandable, but you have to attack when you have the ball. 3-4 yard passes aren’t going to cut it. The defenders usually 3-4 were there about as quick as the ball, so the Recievers had no chance of yards after the catch. Recievers dropped way TOO MANY BALLS this season as well.
2- Nico looks eriely similar to Joe Milton in the pocket. His feet are set in stone as soon as he gets the ball, and “usually” they never step into his throws. Effecting accuracy. Probably shouldn’t be surprised, Milton was his mentor, as bad as he was.
3- Sampson is a BEAST, and has carried the offense ALL SEASON. NICE JOB 6.
4- Defense took the night off tonight, looked similar to the Arkansas game. PATHETIC. Secondary is absoulute GARBAGE.
5- O-line can block really good for the run, unfortunately they can’t block for **** on pass plays. Nico needs more than 2 seconds to make reads and throw the damn ball. SEVERAL PASSES came out of Nico’s hands late tonight and have all season also. If the recievers are standing still with thier hands up waiting on the ball to get there, then the ball is delivered LATE. Several times tonight a guy was running open, and Nico couldn’t get him the ball because the pass blocking broke down, or he just didn’t see them maybe. Some of this is inexperience, and maybe he will get better with more experience.
6- Major changes are needed, to play at a consistent high level. PERIOD.

On another note. I’m not a bama fan, but I always admired the DOMINANCE they brought week in and week out under Saban. People knew what to expect. I believe a lot of people hate the SEC anyways, because of the power of the conference, but honestly, after Tennessee getting spanked like they did, why would anybody fear or respect the SEC now? Seems some teams are worthy and some are NOT. I would like to see Tennessee achieve and maintain a similar level of dominance and consistency. I know that’s asking a lot, but it’s been proven, IT CAN BE DONE.

Yeah, no. Don’t blame this shitshow on NIL. We went up against the team making the most money in college football. And the most ruthless competitors you know in sports made killer money.

NIL didn’t make Banks and Martinez line DBs 15 yards off the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 4. NIL didn’t make Heupel kick field goals down 21 and punt on 4th and short on the Ohio State side of the field. Same **** we have seen all year, but we went up against a competent team.
Still can’t believe we’ve yet to fake a punt with our rugby player punter that supposedly runs 4.5 and a has a cannon arm. There’s wasn’t a better game to try it than tonight

Hurts, but true. We are tier 2. When the OSU gloaters come on here to say told you so, just say, 'yeah, you were right, great game, see you next year'. The worm will turn.
In a game like this one we have a punchers chance if things go right. Ohio State has a wide margin of error bc they have a wide margin of talent. Vols are getting better; we have a player at each position that’s good to elite, OSU has elite players at every position and behind them are damn good players as well. They also put 20 million into that roster according to their AD.

That would be a real shame. Especially if we really needed something to get us going on the road in a playoff game where we were struggling mightily

And if we're 10-2, tell the committee "no thanks"?
Take any post season bid you get but expectations must be lowered. With this coach we are not competing for championships and I am not suggesting we dump him. I doubt we could improve our situation.

I hope Hype enjoyed his cup of coffee. I am pretty sure the game was over before it even got cold.

UT Football posted something on X saying they gave their all and thanking the fans. But the fans are having none of it and are lighting them up for having the temerity to call that their "all."

We have a right to expect better than that. Sure, we still have a ways to go, but there is no excuse to not be more competitive than we were. No one cares whether it is coaching, offense, defense, whatever --- they all sucked and put out minimal effort.

I have yet to see a bit of evidence that Hype does anything during these long breaks other than sit around and try to grow a fifth chin because we come out unprepared every time we have extra days to formulate a gameplan. And Nico cannot throw an accurate longball to save his life when this offense absolutely requires someone who can. He also doesn't make decisions quickly enough and I don't think he has the capacity to ever be able to do that. So these are some huge structural flaws inherent in those who have to lead us on and off the field. You can't have the guy eating up that much of your NIL be so deficient in key areas. The tOSU qb completed multiple long passes in this game that Nico could not hit if you gave him 100 tries. Hell Nico missed a guy running wide open after the defender fell down that was only about a 15 yard pass!!

This is the year Hype has to address these deficiencies instead of papering them over. "Ain't gonna be perfect. Doesn't have to be perfect." is the worst slogan imaginable for a coach and it is Hype's favorite one. He needs to get his mind right and start making some of this stuff perfect and he needs to shed the dead weight on the staff that can't recruit. Sampson papered over a world of problems this year and he won't be around next year to fall back on so I expect next year's record to be a lot worse than this year's if there aren't some major changes made.

Tennessee did not belong in the playoffs and they don't have any championships in their future. They are a middle of the pack program and the SEC bar is raised every year. We are so far behind the top teams, even though we improve, its impossible catch up.
Not impossible, but need to do better in the portal. Some mixed thoughts but thinking Nico was a miss as well. He’s talented but not elite. And he got elite compensation.

You ain’t invested you ain’t playing on my team. Fix the culture ********
We heard all year that the players were highly invested. And they seemed to be, after the first quarter. Now this. I mean, if they weren't motivated for this game, something was wrong with them. Maybe they were half froze. I'll give credit to Ohio State. They were the better team all over the field. They were pushing our d-line around. How is that even possible?

Tons of disappointment in the locker room from everyone that is invested. I think this is a direct shot at the players. I love it. We saw a lack of effort and want too. Big changes coming, I believe some of these upperclassman may have become stagnant and their lack of effort spread throughout the football team as we saw tonight. No leaders on the field.

Once you make life changing money, you lose that drive.
I saw a lack of coaching, are all of the coaches invested, disappointed?

Never happen again? Gawd man. How old are you? I've seen games like this from UT for decades. It's why BVS and guys like me exist.
Old enough to have high expectations and not to default to a made-up psychological syndrome called “BVS” when we aren’t adequately prepared for the most important game of the year.

This is true - life changing money changes people in many ways. Some good, some bad. We need a Peyton on offense and an Al Wilson on defense - guys with a will to win and who won’t settle for anything less.

Those types of players are long gone.

I'm going to brag on the fans, we did our part and showed up. There was a lot of orange in that stadium, me included. But the body language of our team on the sidelines bothered me the entire game. And the play-calling left a lot to be desired. Disappointed in the effort frankly.
I have had a similar conversation with my kids since they were little. Life is about effort. I don’t care if you aren’t the best at something - all I care about is that you put forth your best effort. Not doing so drives me nuts. Unfortunately, we as fans/boosters “wanting it” more than the coaches or players won’t translate to success at the level we desire.
