I may get crucified for this, but I’m going to say it anyways. Several things I’ve noticed all year, not just tonight.
1- the play calling has been super conservative all year. I get Nico is young, and coaches don’t want to get him hurt. Understandable, but you have to attack when you have the ball. 3-4 yard passes aren’t going to cut it. The defenders usually 3-4 were there about as quick as the ball, so the Recievers had no chance of yards after the catch. Recievers dropped way TOO MANY BALLS this season as well.
2- Nico looks eriely similar to Joe Milton in the pocket. His feet are set in stone as soon as he gets the ball, and “usually” they never step into his throws. Effecting accuracy. Probably shouldn’t be surprised, Milton was his mentor, as bad as he was.
3- Sampson is a BEAST, and has carried the offense ALL SEASON. NICE JOB 6.
4- Defense took the night off tonight, looked similar to the Arkansas game. PATHETIC. Secondary is absoulute GARBAGE.
5- O-line can block really good for the run, unfortunately they can’t block for **** on pass plays. Nico needs more than 2 seconds to make reads and throw the damn ball. SEVERAL PASSES came out of Nico’s hands late tonight and have all season also. If the recievers are standing still with thier hands up waiting on the ball to get there, then the ball is delivered LATE. Several times tonight a guy was running open, and Nico couldn’t get him the ball because the pass blocking broke down, or he just didn’t see them maybe. Some of this is inexperience, and maybe he will get better with more experience.
6- Major changes are needed, to play at a consistent high level. PERIOD.
On another note. I’m not a bama fan, but I always admired the DOMINANCE they brought week in and week out under Saban. People knew what to expect. I believe a lot of people hate the SEC anyways, because of the power of the conference, but honestly, after Tennessee getting spanked like they did, why would anybody fear or respect the SEC now? Seems some teams are worthy and some are NOT. I would like to see Tennessee achieve and maintain a similar level of dominance and consistency. I know that’s asking a lot, but it’s been proven, IT CAN BE DONE.
