Coach Graham explains why he left Tennessee

Prolly pretty close to the truth. For all the "fans" talking bad about Graham, what is wrong with you people?

He made a choice to go to a job he felt better about. What's wrong with that?

Do you think UF is speaking badly of Robert Gillespie? I don't think so. Is he not a "GFL" for coaching at a rival? How stupid.

If we were beating FL stupid for the last decade you can bet they would be burning RG in effigy in Gainesville. Or if RG had gone to GA or FSU... Having grown up in FL I can assure you we consider FL more of a rival than they consider us as one.

It's kind of like if JG hadnt been at SC and left us for SC. We would all collectively say WTF.. oh well must have been the undiagnosed concussions... We hate SC much like FL hates us, its just not the level of despise we have for say an Alabubba, or in their case GA or FSU.

In Jay's case it appears he took a job at an ACC school for less money than his alma mater offered, the reason is moot. All it says to me is that his blood is red or maybe an FSU shade of crimson instead of orange...

I dont wish him ill will, but I certainly aint going to be hanging any JG posters up either..

For the record I also follow FSU, and most of the fan base has no clue who JG is or was for that matter.

Let's see, UT's rushing output was almost double in 2012 than 2011. But all some of you care about are kids currently in high school and not the ones on campus.

Yeah, Graham did nothing while at UT. SMDH!

Not saying JG didn't do a good job with the rbs cause I think he did. But you can't just give him all the credit for the improved rushing output. IMHO, OL bore more responsibility for that. Spread the credit at the very least.

And he's all about the WINNING hence leaving the Spurrier staff to coach under Dooley
Posted via VolNation Mobile

I find this funny, but what would the outcry have been last year if Graham turned Dooley down? I seem to recall almost everyone on here being excited about the hire.

Now that he's gone, it seems he's an idiot for leaving Spurrier and coaching under Dooley....the same Dooley that beat a Butch Jones coached Cincy team that is now UT's head coach that everyone is drooling about on here.

I like what Jones is doing and the enthusiasm he's bringing to the team. It's refreshing and exciting to see. But you can't bash Dooley or Graham without bashing Jones.

Why not stop the bashing? It's senseless and does nothing productive.

So this is more about UT having an inferiority complex than losing a coach? I tend to agree with that. I also agree that hardly any FSU fans know that FSU hired Jay Graham...or cares. They just want to see it on the field.

Aspiring coaches move around a lot. They're expected to. It's how they grow.

Of course. The O-line has a lot to do with the success of the RB's. There are people on here calling him lazy and that he did nothing while he was here. Not true.

I agree. Some of your best work. Well done. :hi:

Thanks. Never understood the uproar over an assistant coach leaving. It happens all the time at all programs. It is always a gamble for them when they do it, but that is how they move ahead in their careers.

You're just one of those swivel neck ratchet jaws with a flip top head. You just go on about anything.

Guys simple fact: assistant coaches switch jobs right and left all the time. You can call Jay Graham not a VFL all you want fact is what he did was no different then any other coach. He was not brought on by Butch--odds are he was leaving one way or the other. The level of homer-ism that exists on this board is beyond my comprehension. Graham more or less saved our recruiting class by working the few kids he did--if you work in a corporate environment you understand. Once the old guard is replaced it's always a case of out with the old in with the new. In my estimation, Jay was nothing but professional and did his job. He couldn't help the way the program was mismanaged by Dooley. I'm not sure if Jay's been honored at Neyland yet but all you haters will stand up and cheer if he is. It's all an open wound because of the losing and the fact Jay starred here. Get over it. Players play and coaches coach---in today's day in age in sports it is extremely rare that an individual spends time with one team his whole career. It just doesn't happen.

I attribute that much more so to the offensive line than the RB's. You can't hit a hole that's not there.

Sorry man it just blows my mind that everyone loves Jay (and rightfully so) and will criticize at the drop of a hat because the guy wanted something different...something that wasn't Tennessee. Would people rather stay here and be unhappy and do a terrible job? Grass isn't always greener.

You really missed the point or at least didnt remotely address it.

And as for me and others not being able to bash Dooley (and JG, I guess) without bashing CBJ? Uh, just watch.

You underestimate me...I can bash BOTH Dooley and Graham and praise Jones...wasn't in bash mode though, was countering the reason for Graham leaving being about coaching for a winner and leaving a certain loser...words are fun!

Since Butch was hired, I have always said that Graham was not going to stay. CJG has no experience or process on how the RB position plays in a spread style offense. He has always been more of a pro style guy.

Yes, Spurrier plays the "run and gun" at USCe...but it's not a true spread like what Butch runs. I just think Graham is going to feel more comfortable in a place like FSU for two reasons: 1) He is back in a pro style game 2) He is still in the south at a football school and doesn't have to go head to head with UT

Just seems like a good fit for Jay and I wish for him the best. Also, if the winds of fate ever blow that direction again, I think he would be welcomed back at UT.

What exactly is a "true spread"? Connor Shaw had more rushing attempts last year then Marlin Lane did. Their offense is certainly closer to what CBJ likes to run then it is to a traditional pro style. There is more to this story then we know and CJG leaving probably has little to do with the type offense CBJ runs.
