kidbourbon and bigorange34232 would make a dynamic duo. you guys could be the pinky and the brain of volnation.......
Because it takes special ability to follow up back to back national titles with back to back NIT appearances. If I hired him today, I very much doubt he would accomplish anything. Therefore, I wouldn't hire him. It's not that difficult.
If Izzo or Coach K were at UK, would they have had that caliber freshman class? If they wouldn't, they probably wouldn't have been as good. I'm not trying to knock either coach, because they are both very good, but recruiting is so big that it's not that crazy to put Cal at number 1. Thad Matta fits the bill of great recruiter, not so great coach. It got him a title appearance. I'd rather have that than have a coach who can underachieve with exceptional talent than overachieve with a little bit of talent. So just to re-cap what we have learned so far:
1. According to Kidbourbon, not only is Cal a better coach than Izzo and Coach K, KY would NOT have been as good this year with either Izzo or Coach K leading them instead of Cal.
This is a miss. k had the horses at one time, but made a specific and painful decision to move away from the one and done types after Maggette and Avery. He hasn't had the horses since.Since neither Izzo or Coach K can recruit elite players....
I dont have the time to list all of the elite players that these two have recruited in their tenures.

And he turned it around. Billy Donovan isn't going to get back on top of anything. He got lucky with a class of good players that stayed well after they needed to because they came from wealthy families. Donovan got very lucky. He's done.Boeheim had back to back NIT appearances a couple of years ago and people here are claiming he is the greatest thing ever
How is Kidbourbon wrong? I know for sure that K would tell you he wouldn't have taken on those players. He's following his mentor in that regard. Izzo has never amassed that kind of talent. His teams beat you with attitude and effort.

Please refrain from any attempt to lump me in with bigorange34232.
What I'm saying about Calipari is arguable but very much defensible (my viewpoint is shared by a lot of people who know a lot about basketball (including the guy that put together the list we are presently debating)).
What bigorange34232 is saying is simply absurd.
So you know that Coach K wouldnt take on John Wall and Demarcus Cousins? LOL ok. Izzo hasnt amassed talent? 2000 team of Jason richardson, Charlie Bell, Morris Peterson and Mateen Cleaves isnt "that Kind of talent" ?

I'm sure they look very nice in the trophy case, and I'm sure the players on the team and Gator fans are very grateful, as I would be as well. I'm just not assuming he's going to bring in anything more. How many coaches in history have won two national titles? It's a short list. Simply absurd? The championships speak for themselves.
