Coalition of the Realists

The sunshine pumpers are the ones that exhibit the following post game:

miserable, negative, whiny douchebag

Realists (or whatever PJ decides to call us) will sit back and watch, waiting for the next game we get to cheer on our Vols.

I call BS!!!

I couldn't agree more. I also thought 2 years was long enough to not have to deal with that garbage anymore and didn't expect it especially from a Mod.

Then don't call it people for doing something you've also been guilty of on here. Had nothing to do with the details of the situation just how it played out

Vollyannas aka Sunshine Pumpers- fans who feel any fan who doesn't offer unbridled enthusiasm about the chances of victory against a highly ranked opponent on the road is a "negavol"

Favorite phrase- "go find another team to pull for"

Also known as 66VolFan

Both sides need to chill out. Even this independent faction trying to form. We will only lose by 12 and everyone has a little bit to chew on good and bad. If I am wrong blame this 1998 penny that I have designated as responsible for my predictions. It seems as reliable as all other methods I have researched.

Competing and losing by 12 would be a huge stride forward for this program.

I can't subscribe to the theory of "good losses" but this would be damn close given our road experiences in recent years.

If we lose by 12 it will be validation to me that we are headed in the right direction and FAST. The difference is the sunshine pumpers will be crying "woah is me" and saying to "fahr Jake" or "Fahr Jancek" (because I don't think we are quite to the point of fahr Butch yet, even for those folks)

Realists would be happy with a 12pt loss because it is a positive step forward for what Butch is doing. Realists also accept this probably won't happen, but we can hope it will.

It would FAR surpass the Stoerner miracle in my books. In 98 we were supposed to beat the Razorbacks.

The closest thing to it in my eyes would be the Miami win in the Sugar bowl BUT we WERE in the Sugar Bowl already lol. To me beating Oklahoma would far surpass anything that has happened in my 44 years of bleeding orange!

I just can't agree to this yet. Sorry.

A win would be more on par with the 2003 win at Miami IMO.

86 Sugar Bowl...Miracle at South Bend...The Swamp 2001...Stoerner's fumble....those are all time games right there that help define the history of the program.

If this team surpassed all odds and made the SEC championship...maybe.

MODS, would it be permissible to start a meltdown thread during the game? Just to see what happens in there? It would be classic.

You might be in the class of poster I referred to earlier if reading Vol fans meltdown makes you happy. Just saying.

It's one thing to be a fan of a team. It's another not to have realistic expectations for the team that you root for. All of us wish that our teams would win every game but in most cases that's not going to happen. Just my 2 cents......

Whether you like it or not, there are good loses when your program has been where ours has. Keeping the score within 10 points with OU would be a good loss because it means we played better than our talent and depth. That's the sunshine in you that thinks you will be less of a fan if you acknowledge that there are strides to be made even in losing.

We will be in game entering the 4th quarter imo. After that I don't know. Our depth isn't what it needs to be and therefore can our first string lineman hold blocks long enough for crucial plays to be converted.

Fair point. Scorn accepted. Will not engage in impish behavior. Thank you, Freak.

I nearly broke one our founding principles before we even had our first meeting.

Is this thread really necessary? You want to "mark it down" so you can brag after UT loses? Pathetic.

I don't think we will win. That's not going out on a limb. But I sure as hell hope we do, and I won't give anybody any grief for predicting a Vol win.

Agree to disagree mainly due to depth. All those teams were much deeper than we are this year. That is why I would term it that way. Its arguable, sure, but 0 starters returning on either side of the ball going into their home stadium would have to rank up there with any of those games you referred to imo.

And in your programs history it has never ever ever happened. Always one blemish on Florida's schedule throughout history. :) sorry I had to.

Yet another one misses the point.

For me its more about the fight in the dog, than the dog in the fight. While I have no illusions about this game either....I do want to see is a hard effort from the entire team for the entire game...and that for this guy would be an improvement.

Not a scorn. Just making a point. I see that as something rival fans might enjoy, not our own.

Exactly.

The ones thinking with their hearts instead of their heads will likely be the ones to react the worst.

It is possible to do a bit of both despite what some people think though.

Negavol IMO.

Realistivol. IMO

In this game you hope for the best but, in reality, have to expect the worst. Doesn't mean we aren't turning it around. It doesn't mean we won't make a bowl. Just means we're an unranked team headed to play a Top 5 team in their house. It is what it is.

I do not think anyone should see it as a foregone conclusion but in a mathematical way it is very unlikely. I will be the first one celebrating a win and lamenting a loss. I am just amazed at all the people that are calling for the Vols to win this game not in a homer or fan way but using irrelevant statistics.

Our current odds of winning are ~10%. In other words, if we play this game 10 times, we would be expected to win one of them. Certainly worth holding out hope for, IMO

Saying I am happy with a loss just isn't in my nature.

Acknowledging that good things can come from losses and finding positives in them certainly is though.

Awful hard to find positives in some of the beat downs this team has had in recent years.
