Kaepernick explicitly voiced his support of the troops.
The flag represents a lot of things, good and bad. Just because you focus on the good and salute the good does not mean you think everything is good. Just because Kaepernick refused to salute the flag does not mean he thinks everything is bad. Just like you aren't endorsing Japanese internment when you stand for the flag, CK was not insulting the sacrifices made by troops when he did not stand for the flag.
People just want to be outraged.
No one is outraged here. It just shows a persons true character and makes the whole issue about him rather than what he is protesting. Its a sign of disrespect to everyone period. You can't come back and say, oh I did not mean the troops fighting overseas, I respect the troops just not their flag. How lame. Find another way to protest would be my suggestion.
