Colin Kaepernick sits during national anthem

Kaepernick explicitly voiced his support of the troops.

The flag represents a lot of things, good and bad. Just because you focus on the good and salute the good does not mean you think everything is good. Just because Kaepernick refused to salute the flag does not mean he thinks everything is bad. Just like you aren't endorsing Japanese internment when you stand for the flag, CK was not insulting the sacrifices made by troops when he did not stand for the flag.

People just want to be outraged.

No one is outraged here. It just shows a persons true character and makes the whole issue about him rather than what he is protesting. Its a sign of disrespect to everyone period. You can't come back and say, oh I did not mean the troops fighting overseas, I respect the troops just not their flag. How lame. Find another way to protest would be my suggestion.

It was always about him. It was about him finding away to make it difficult for the 49ers management to cut him.

That sounds messy, BearCat.

I don't see how people possess the tact to work anywhere with an HR department.

I'd be screwed.

Basically what I told her. I wouldn't have lost my job and would have probably been arrested if that had happened to me. She definitely has a bigger heart and a ton more patience than I.

He will say that the 49ers cut him because of his stance on the anthem instead of it being that he's a bad QB and his $19 million dollar contract is taking up cap space.

Funny thing is that when the 9'ers cut him, he will still walk away with a $12M check. That alone has been the only reason he wasn't dumped in the offseason.

lmao

I respected Jerod Mayo and I disliked the Patriots organization. The problem is people don't understand nuanced positions. You can have an opinion of our country that differs from your opinion of the troops....FFS.

Claims of racism.
I don't see it. He can claim anything he wants, but doesn't make it true. Maybe he just sucks and it shows in practice. How much playing time has he had in the preseason?

What is more likely is that he gets to stay and all the outrage goes away when he throws his first TD pass. Football fans are fickle. Actually I would kind of like to see how he is going to extricate himself from this protest. I really don't see a way out for him.

As a veteran..... I find what he is doing is disrespectful. My opinion. I'll bet I am not alone. He can say that he respects the troops, but this action does not show that.

Perception is reality in our world these days.

I don't feel disrespected by him at all. I usually have to give at least a tiny **** about a person before I care what they think.

But CK didn't piss on anything. It's not comparable. He failed to stand. What is Jerod gonna do to me if I fail to stand when the Patriots' flag passes by? That's a comparable example.

You can have whatever opinion you want, you are entitled to that...the point is whether or not this is a valid opinion. Is it possible to not engage in flag worship and still appreciate and respect the troops? You seem to be only looking through one perspective about what his actions symbolically mean. Is there room for nuance?

The whole crap show is symbolism. The flag is merely a symbol. the Star Spangled is a musical symbol. He is getting what he wanted. Attention. Sorry if it doesn't fit his narrative and everybody isn't on his train. **** him. Nuance. Please.

If you think the Patriots flag and the US flag are comparable then we have noting more to discuss. I know you meant comparable argument, but its not even close to a comparable argument. I understand most people now days have little respect for anything much less a flag. Yes, under the context that the US flag is simply another flag then you are correct.

And also yes, not standing is the same as pissing for most people as he will soon find out.

Obviously. WTF

The question is what is the meaning?...yes the flag has symbolic meaning...you so closely associate it with the troops that you assume a slight against the flag is a slight against the troops. The point is not everybody sees it that way. You leave no room for nuance. Somebody can't say, "I didn't stand because the government is corrupt and that's the government's flag." because all you'll hear is "**** the people who died for this corrupt government."

That's not valid.

It's not valid to you because you have never worn a uniform.
