College Baseball - Transfer Portal Tracker

LSU with another big hitting transfer. Making up for their lack of pitching depth with a pretty monster lineup.

Ripping affiliated ball out of over 40 communities is not the way to grow the sport, IMO. Unfortunately I think what all was going on with covid last year kept the spotlight from shining on what MLB was doing.
RIP Appalachian League. Seems sureal. Great memories.

I haven’t been this disinterested in MLB since the strike of 96. Corporate absentee owners like Liberty Media for the Braves also hurt the game since the team is
tsimply another line item on their balance sheet. I hope college sports aren’t ruined by the transfer portal. Commitments are now essentially for one year since there’s no penalty for quitting. Hardship cases should have always been granted transfers but now I fear kids will leave versus working harder to earn their position. What‘s it teaching our kids to quit at the first sign of adversity? I hope college sports don‘t turn into free agency on steroids.
I get your point, but the LOIs are so one sided, I think the new rule does a lot more good than bad.

The only way to fix the transfer problem and the commitment problem is to fix the scholarship problem. What scholarship money these kids do get is basically a year to year performance based scholarship. A kid gets 30% his first year and unless hes a projected starter his second year that gets cut to 15 or less the following year. You cant blame these baseball players for leaving when they are the ones paying for 75% of all college expenses. You get money cut and told your not projected to play then id say pack up and find somewhere else to go. Unless hes there for a specialized degree that he cant get somewhere else, why would a kid pay to sit the bench if he thinks he can play somewhere else.
Football is a different monster.

I agree that the 11.7 for baseball is a joke. So is only having 3 paid coaches. The NCAA needs to revisit baseball altogether.

Yeah. I think they would be better served doing it in conjunction with Omaha. Would help grow the college game, which will help the draft become more popular. MLB needs to work better with collegiate game. They are using it as a feeder system anyway.

I understand this, but I also think performances in Omaha could help players. I never really thought about it much, but I was with a scout in Omaha this year, and he said Will Bednar made himself some and moved up (and this was just after his first game performance against Texas). There is a chance he isn’t drafted quite as high if the draft is held before the last CWS game.

We've more or less filled a lot of big needs we had so far in the transfer portal, right? Starting pitching, overall pitching depth, and catcher? Is there an area we still have a need in that we can address? I'd assume somewhere in the infield maybe?

I think we have enough for the infield. Lipcius, Chambers, Steenstra, Moore, Stephenson, Lipscomb, and even Ortega can all play infield positions. We have 4 in the outfield. Positions are getting tight.

The idea of Texas being in the SEC makes me wanna throw up.

Well, alrighty, then. I haven't come to any conclusions about it. Seems the real SEC from my UT days is long gone anyway. Arkansas and SC added, which was a little strange at the time, but worked OK. And Texas A&M made some sense. But Mizzou never made sense. And now these two. I guess my question now is: Why stop there? We're only 16 now. Why not go and get Clemson and Ohio State, then we'd be assured of having the football NC every year! I guess it's all about money now.

Thanks for explaining the symbol.
