College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

That’s true. I do think this is the year to go all-in, I’m just not sure how much better this team would really be with Ledlum. It’s possible it could make a big impact, but I think his 15-20 minutes he likely would have gotten are just fine being distributed across Awaka, Aidoo, Phillips, and JJJ at the 4.
I think Phillips is the only true 4 of that group though, and he’s a freshman. I worry we’re always either going to struggle on the boards playing a 3 at the 4 like Josiah or struggle to guard on the perimeter playing a center like Awaka or Aidoo at the 4. Maybe Josiah will rebound will enough to get by, maybe Tobe will learn to guard in space, but I think Ledlum can do both and is more dynamic on offense than both (certainly moreso than Awaka)

Yeah, I mean I get the concerns on rebounding, I do. It definitely feels like it could be an Achilles heel for this team. But I think there are ways to address that. First off, it sounds simple, but we just have to crash the glass better. Haven’t really seen that as much in the TTU and Lenoir Rhyne games. Part of that might be because Awaka was sick and that’s his role.

Also in this era of CBB, you’re seeing a lot of success for smaller, guard heavy teams in March. I think we have enough length to keep our head above water and as long as we’re attacking the basket and hitting some shots I think the talent in our guard play will more than makeup for the issue of size.

I agree with that. I’d rather be in this position than worried that we don’t have a guy who can bring the ball up the court against pressure. And most of all I’m glad Gainey and Knecht seem to be able to create their own shot. As great as Vescovi is and as diligently as he moves off ball, he’s not gonna beat a lot of guys off the dribble or take it end to end after a rebound. The lack of an experienced true 4 is definitely more of a nitpick than it is a fatal flaw, but in something as variable as a six game, single elimination tournament, that could still be enough to trip us up. Hopefully it’s not

Yeah. I mean at the end of the day Ledlum won’t make a difference in March if this team just isn’t hitting shots. I think it is that simple for any team. We were as cold as the arctic last year against FAU in the 2nd half and no amount of additional size or experience was going to make up for how poor we shot the ball, IMO.

I think our size is good enough to give us the option of backing down guys with Awaka, Phillips, and Aidoo, but if they are also struggling to put the ball in from 2 feet, well….

One of these days we’ll hit a run in March where we don’t go inexplicably cold from the floor.

Was watching some of the freshmen.

Carlton Carrington for Pittsburgh dropped a
18 point, 12 rebound and 10 assist game the other night.

Kid is going to be a good one.

(yes I get it, they didn’t play anyone, but still impressive for a freshmen)

Thought Cal had some kind of contract that guaranteed him to be highest paid in county.
Am I thinking of someone else or will they revise Cal's contract?

I had not heard that. I know he has a "lifetime contract" that lets him retire and become some kind of special liaison after this season, but Cal shouldn't be pushing to be the highest paid coach without bringing another title to Lexington if he doesn't want to be forced into that new role.

The announcers in this Michigan game have basically talked about Olivier for the entire first 6 minutes of this game against Youngstown State lol. He does look good though.

6 points 3/3 shooting in the first 6 minutes.

Him and that Tschetter guy combined to go 15/15 from the field. Idk if I’ve ever seen anything like that before.

Man, Wade Taylor IV is really good. 1-9 shooting in the first half, but 5-9 in the second half. Taking over the game against tOSU.

Officiating seems heavily slanted toward tOSU in Columbus vs aTm. Some really bad no calls on aTm drives and the Buckeyes getting touch fouls on their drives.
