College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

In your opinion, based on facts, are there any other not good coaches that have built mid-major programs into Sweet 16 teams?

Yeah. Cuonzo Martin. Who got to a S16 at our school. KO made exactly one sweet 16 in his entire career. I have better things to do with my time than look up every coach who ever made a sweet 16, but my guess is there's an enormous amount of forgettable names on that list.

If you keep getting fired or bouncing to lateral or lesser programs, it's a pretty good indicator of your coaching status.

If you want to stand on a pillar and shout the successes of a guy who was a pretty consistent loser, then... ok that's cool I guess. He's lost a lot more than he won overall. He's lost a lot more in individual seasons than he's won. I'm not sure what more you need to say about it. If he were a good coach then I would expect more good coaching.

Ole Miss, oh my lord. They had a chance to tie it with about 10 seconds to go and Murrell chucks up a desperation 3 pointer running down the court acting like he had only 2 seconds like. Air balls it and still had like 5 seconds left to get a better shot.

South Carolina wins. Geez.

Stupid play by Murrell, but I just don't see how South Carolina keeps winning.

They’re a good team. May not have any truly elite players, but the individual parts they do have form a good team. Very well coached team as well. I hate it because South Carolina should be a doormat, but that’s just not what they are this season. Very realistic possibility that they could win the league.

By the time Cuonzo left TN he had earned trips the post season tournaments in all but his first year as a head coach. He won the first post season championship. He won his conference and was named COY. But, yea. He wasn’t a good coach.

But read my question again and do better at comprehension. TN isn’t a mid-major.

Oh yeah you're right. I missed the mid major part. If that's the definition of success then this isn't even a conversation worth having. My entire point was that KO sucked at every relevant stop he's had. If we're defining mid major success as... success, then we can't even agree on our parameters.

I think that taking a mid-major to the Sweet 16 is a bigger coaching accomplishment than taking a major to a Sweet 16. But bad coaches do it all the time, right?
