I think that taking a mid-major to the Sweet 16 is a bigger coaching accomplishment than taking a major to a Sweet 16. But bad coaches do it all the time, right?
You say that like UVA is hot garbage, or something. They've beaten Florida and Texas A&M, and sit a game out of 1st place in the ACC with a 9-3 conference record. 17-5 overall. Losing to them isn't exactly shameful.Clemson is likely to beat NC and then lose to some bottom feeder in their league. They just lost to Virginia the other day
I didn't say they do it all the time, but forgettable coaches take teams to the sweet 16 very often. Subtle difference, but significant.
But again, why are we talking about that? You're diverting from the original point that KO wasn't a good coach...?
Look man, I generally appreciate the content you bring to this board, but this is a stupid argument. If he had the exact same accomplishments but was 50 years old, the only people that are hiring him are people that are hiring him on hopes or prayers (and honestly I think that's being generous, probably lower schools than that but now I'm just supposing).
If UT hired him after Barnes, everyone would lose their mind, and my guess is you would too. If not, and you *truly* believe a coach who's pretty consistently sucked, then... all I have to say is thank god you're not our AD lol
I have no interest in arguing with either of you, but let me offer a different perspective. I think there are good mid-major coaches who, for whatever reason, don’t have what it takes to succeed at the highest level once they jump ship after a mid-major tournament run. As a result, they eventually get fired and either go back to another mid-major program, get into broadcasting, stop coaching altogether, or something entirely different.I think that taking a mid-major to the Sweet 16 is a bigger coaching accomplishment than taking a major to a Sweet 16. But bad coaches do it all the time, right?
