Coming after Vitello

Add that to the report this week that Peyton and 2 other donors are on board ... and it’s very promising we can keep him. Kendall Rogers sure did an abrupt 180.

Who is reporting that? Basilio? I saw it there but I just can’t bring myself to trust that guy. Any other sources able to confirm this?

Honestly not sure where it originated. I’ve heard it on a few different TN sport shows this week. It makes sense though. Peyton came to town for the biggest game of the year (at that point) and there has to be donors who like baseball.

interesting talk over on the Aggies forum.

So, Vitello would turn down TAMU but crawl to LSU if they came calling? There is arguably zero difference in the ability to win in both places so I don't believe that. If the 1.5 million dollar salary and facility upgrades part is true, and he has turned down TAMU, he isn't leaving for LSU.

Exactly. Not sure who runs that Twitter account, but they do have almost 3,000 followers so it’s not a Jim Bob in East Tn.

Eh, it's still a fan account. We have some Tennessee fan accounts with like anywhere from 5,000 - 15,000 followers that know nothing. Anyone can create a social media account and claim insider status.

Vitello is not going to leave Knoxville.

Anderson, on the other hand? I wouldn't be surprised if he got poached. And he would be a big loss, he's definitely been a big part of this run.

I can’t imagine that happening either, why do you think that could happen.

If Vitello ain’t leaving, Anderson ain’t leaving. Anderson has a good gig with CTV.

Easiest solution - Make it worthwhile for both to stay. Every board I visit (A&M, LSU) is 95% pro-Vitello. Another comment I see often on their forums is - "Vitello is going to win championships somewhere. Why not here?" ... and to that I say...

I agree.

This fanbase has rallied around Vitello. I even see people on Twitter who are typically exclusively football people tweeting about Vitello and the Vols. Fox Sports Knoxville for years would never discuss TN baseball and now it’s a frequent segment.

This guy has endeared himself to this fanbase in a time where this fanbase has not had much to be proud of. I hope DW understands how big of a screw up it would be to let him walk. DW hasn’t done much right in the fanbases eyes since he got here. This would be the easiest way for DW to build trust quickly.

I do believe the baseball program is in a position to have sustained fan interest. Part of it is that fans are starving for a winner. And a big reason is this team and Coach V are so likeable, the type of team fans love to root for.

I think that is part of it, but I also think that baseball is a much bigger sport in the state than we give it credit for.

East TN is a baseball stronghold. I grew up with pretty much every kid I knew playing little league and travel ball. Tennessee just has been so bad for so long you wouldn’t know that people here love the sport but they do. Now, they have a reason again to love the sport AND the team they root for.
