Not a betting man myself, but if they muck this up it will be the biggest blunder in UT sports history, it will be like firing Pat Summit in her, what...fifth year?

I’m told former players of Skip’s era have been told Kevin is coming

KoS has kids and a baby momma in LA. He also wants to be at a place where the fans care as much as they do at LSU

It’s not all that simple though. If a coach really wants to leave, he can. We could match or come close and commit to facilities, and sometimes coaches still leave.

Not saying that in this case because I think TV likes Knoxville and UT.

I’m just saying investing or commitments aren’t the only reason coaches leave.

Chris Beard was always leaving TT for Texas because it’s his alma mater. Nothing to do with money or commitment really.

I think the only reason TV leaves is he sees it as a legit opportunity to win a title every year. I believe TN is a great place for college baseball, and he could win slot here. He may not see it that way.

He flirted hard with TX but it ultimately got him a new stadium. Not saying he’d leave but he’d look like a major ass for pushing UF for better amenities then getting a $60M stadium and leaving after 1 year in it.

You can win a title here every year. TV sees that. If he leaves, it’s because we don’t feel baseball is worth investing in. It’s pretty simple.

Yeah, LSU and TAMU have great facilities and lots of money, but so do we. Tennessee is also in a rich recruiting area. Again, I’m not saying we are as good as LSU or TAMU but we can be. We’re not LA Tech or Libery. We’re freaking Tennessee.

He knows the league, we gave him a shot, in true UT fashion right? Hire an up and comer? Hire a great recruiter, but by golly don’t give away the store?

I don’t know what TV thinks. Those things aren’t the only reason coaches leave. I don’t think it’s that simple. We can all throw out conjecture, but coaches leave for many reasons.

Nothing is ever simple, but my main point is that Tennessee isn’t some mid-major program with few resources and a lackluster fanbase that coaches use as a stepping stone.

I keep hearing other fans and even some of our own fans say we can’t keep him. We don’t have the money. We don’t have the fan support. We don’t have the facilities. I call BS on all of that. We can have all of it if we want. It will just take some time. It’s not about building a Dudley Noble over night. It’s about showing a public commitment to TV and his staff that we’ll support you and give you what you need for the long haul.

We have some big fish donors who could **** out TV’s salary for the next 5-10 years before breakfast. We apparently brought DW in as one of the highest paid AD’s in college athletics because of his fundraising prowess. It’s time to put up or shut up, IMO.

Also have to think it helps that we have Boyd as president. He was a big part of keeping Barnes, and should be able to help out White with donor support if needed.

Wes can eat one. Everyone knows we’re going to have to up the ante to keep him here as long as we all want him to remain here but Wes writes it like he has one foot out the door already. The Knoxville media (not unlike all mainstream media these days) wants to stand on the street corner pontificating about how toxic the UT fanbase meanwhile they’re constantly writing hack job pieces themselves and belittling the athletic department/program like we’re a “never has-been” or a middling G5 school that will always be a stepping stone. AM has a big, beautiful stadium & lots of money; you know how many Omaha appearances it’s yielded them? Two more than UT.

I don’t disagree with any of this. I’m not a negative person. All I was responding to was that you can agree to pay a certain amount and make facility commitments, and coaches can still leave. DW can do all he can do and still lose him. Don’t blame him just to blame him.
