Coming after Vitello

You are onto the real problem IMO. When Fulmer gave CTV the extension a few years ago, it was a good start. BUT, that is when the AD should have seen the promise of CTV and made the commitment to baseball with facility upgrades, more assistant money, etc. Fulmer just wasn’t an AD, pure and simple. No business sense whatsoever.

Pretty sure Fulmer put the LNS renovations in motion, got some donors on board, and had actually moved them up in priority.

The AD is being reactive because he has no choice, he will pony up whatever price tag it takes to keep TV. Will that be enough to keep TV around is up to him, but we need improve facilities by the end of this year to even be on par with competition.

Because, uh, it’s the bottom of the ninth and we’re scrambling to keep our coach?

And this isn’t really on White…he’s relatively new. See my other post on Fulmer.

This would have been done last year without Covid. TV was given a raise and extension after his last full season.

Well, what do we have to show for it? Brick and mortar talks and BS walks IMO.

Fulmer is the consummate college administrator/politician. Smile for the cameras and talk a good game…while actually producing nothing.

Btw don’t go to the recruiting forum talking about Fulmer they don’t take kindly to it at all, hard for them to accept he was worse than Hamilton as an AD. I will always appreciate what Fulmer did in the 90’s

I’m not saying Fulmer was a great AD, but you can ask LA Vol in the recruiting forum about the timeline. He knows his stuff, and I’m pretty sure he said Fulmer was out in front of it.

When Fulmer was hired, Vitello hadn’t coached a game yet. They made progress in year one but didn’t make postseason. He was given a raise and extension after year two.

Not going to argue with you guys about it, but LA said he had made LNS a priority and moved up timeline.

If Vitello leaves, it’s because he wants to. It won’t be for a lack of salary or commitment to make upgrades.

Yeah I remember that convo well with LWS who has always been a huge Fulmer fan so his bias runs deep… You’ll never catch LWS admit Fulmer was a bad AD which is a problem in itself

I have known and been around Phil since his days in FC. Love him to death as a person. Was NOT capable of running an SEC athletic department.

Who cares? LA knows, and he will freely tell you that the UT AD has been incompetent for years. But I know you will keep arguing about it because you’ve done it before.

I think it’s a good offer. And I think we have an offer out to him.

I find it interesting that he hasn’t countered. He may very well leave IMO.

Literal nonsense. We're in the middle of a run to the national championship right now. We're playing in freaking Omaha, HELL YEAH OMAHA, on Sunday. There is zero need to announce an extension or facility upgrades until this run ends with us holding the trophy. Don't district the team. Keep them focused. As they say, no news is good news. We're fine. He'll get his raise and facility upgrades announced once the season is over, and I'd be shocked if it wasn't already a done deal with an announcement waiting in the wings. He ain't leaving.

I will definitely agree with your last paragraph.

I also think there would be a deal if CTV wanted it. If I had to bet, UT is going to be looking for a new baseball coach.

“Competent” is why we are in this situation with baseball, track and football.

No one said to make it public. You know very well negotiations are on going behind closed doors.

This is the kind of announcement that would energize the team/program. I think you are dead wrong.

But, time will tell.

I don't know, even good news can be very distracting. I doubt an announcement of TV staying would give this team an edge in Omaha, they need to stay locked in with one mission in mind. Everything else is tertiary until the season is over and should stay close-lipped until the CWS ends.

My man. I do hope you are right!

It doesn't matter what people think he's "earned." He will be paid whatever the market will bear if he chooses to test the market.

You are right, and I think you can go ahead and bet the farm that his agent already has unofficial “inquiries” to judge. Tennessee just isn’t in any position to play hardball here. They either pay the most or he’s gone IMO. And even paying the most might not keep him here.

There isn’t any hometown discount, and the administration just has to decide if he is worth the price tag.

If he walks, I do hope they follow through with kick@$$ upgrades to the facilities and a strong commitment to the program.
