Coming after Vitello

You are right, and I think you can go ahead and bet the farm that his agent already has unofficial “inquiries” to judge. Tennessee just isn’t in any position to play hardball here. They either pay the most or he’s gone IMO. And even paying the most might not keep him here.

There isn’t any hometown discount, and the administration just has to decide if he is worth the price tag.

If he walks, I do hope they follow through with kick@$$ upgrades to the facilities and a strong commitment to the program.

If he walks, my first stop would be a trip to ECU.

My man. I do hope you are right!

Someone just asked the following questions on the VQ Monday night chat thread a little bit ago. Follow up responses are from Ben McKee:

Questions:
1. What percentage would you guys put on Tony staying at Tennessee?

2. Gut feeling.. Will the upgrades being discussed for LNS be enough to put us in the top half of the conference?

Answers:
1. 75% as of June 14, and I'm being conservative just because anything can happen.

2. I think the current talks would put Tennessee just outside of the top half. Will take multiple renovations for Vols to catch up.

If they commit to the program and significant upgrades, they likely can find a good replacement. But, more of the cheap @$$ UT same, likely will bring back another decade-plus of mediocrity. It really is criminal that UT would have the worst facility in any sport when you think about it. Just another “feather” in the inept AD’s cap.

It’s also criminal that UT could lose a coach in any sport to another SEC school.

2 is unacceptable. How in he!! do Mississippi schools beat UT at anything?

Well I think as unacceptable as answer to #2 is, it just goes to show how far behind we are. Incredible we let it get that bad.

Not anymore…I sold out and retired at 48…but carry on with all of that knowledge….
Lol. That’s funny. I retired at 48 also. Took 2 years to catch up with family and ranched cattle. Had to get back in the game.

This question was posed by a LSU fan on Tiger Droppings recently and was answered by fans from a few different SEC West schools. It got some interesting responses. Ultimately the key take away boiled down to the fact that both Mississippi schools along with Arkansas realized that the road to surpass Alabama, Auburn and LSU longterm in football was unlikely at best. The disparity in between programs was what pushed the AD's at these schools to look towards additional sports to go all in on where the perceived advantages were non existent or on a much smaller scale with the exception of LSU. Ultimately this lead to all 3 programs dumping huge amounts of money into them and creating national brands over the years. Coincidentally Baum, Dudey Noble and Swayze are 3 of the nicest ball parks in the country right now. Bianco and Van Horn both, despite never winning it all, have made them contenders for close to 20 years. MSU just seems like they reload regardless of who is coaching. This despite the turn over they've had in recent years. Their commitment to baseball and their fanbases willingness to support their teams are very impressive. I'm hoping that Tony can be that guy for us. As PM said after Sundays game, Tennessee is a sleeping giant that's just been waiting for the right guy. Fingers crossed we don't screw this up.

Why does Wal Mart have more customers than KMART? Because they continously invest in their stores while Kmart squandered money.

Why does Tennessee have bottom tier baseball facilities? Because other schools invested money in their baseball programs and we hired Mike Hamilton and Dave Hart to squander $$$.

I haven’t been to Swayze, but what makes it one of the best? It was built in 1989 (by the city). That helps when the local government pays for it. But they’ve expanded twice with the second completed in 2009 at a cost of 18.5 million. I know LNS has some limitations, but it was built later, and it seems to me that a $35 million renovation would go a long way.

Miss St. has been very good in baseball for a very long time. There is nothing else to do in Starkvegas anyway. That is how they put 15,000 in the stands.

Their baseball facilities (including, but not limited to, Swayze) far exceed ours. If you dont believe me, ask any senior level traveling coach within Dulin's or any of the coaches at one of AAA HS powers here in Shelby County.

Went “national” for two seconds before ending up at the next office over. 😏

Not sure what that means, but if the rumors regarding LSU and TCU are true…not a lot of jobs left a sitting SEC coach would leave for IMO.

AD said in the article that there would be a “national search” and they hired their top assistant. That’s what “that means”. Prolly be a great hire...Vitello was a top assistant.

Maybe all this insiders posting on these forums can pull the big money men together at Calhoun's and iron out a " deal he can't refuse" ;)
I mean there seems to be posters in here that know all these cats. Apperantly playing golf and having dinner with these movers and shakers 2/3 times a week.
Y'all need to get it done. ;)

The AD is being reactive because he has no choice, he will pony up whatever price tag it takes to keep TV. Will that be enough to keep TV around is up to him, but we need improve facilities by the end of this year to even be on par with competition.

Not being at all the case. TV needs a very sizable raise and even though I have never believed facilities are a must he deserves that now. The fire is just too hot

If White only reacts to what it takes to keep him he’s getting none of those things because he isn’t going to be offered any job he’d leave for.

It’s a good stadium but not one of the best imo without the students. The students is what makes that stadium if that makes sense
