Our offer has to overcompensate for the state of our program. We are selling him an idea. Other schools don’t have to do that. But at what cost? Like I’ve been saying, if Coach wants to stay he will stay because he will get a very good new contract. He will not get a contract next year that makes him the highest paid Coach in the country. He has to want to stay.
There has been no offer to accept yet because Tony asked not to start any negotiations until after the season is over. The only thing he's focused on right now is getting the team ready for Omaha.Well, whatever the offer is to date, it must not be enough…because he hasn’t accepted it. More concerning is that there doesn’t appear to be a counteroffer.
We would have to quadruple his salary to make him the highest paid coach in the country - that title belongs to Tim Corbin who makes $2.3M at Vandy. That isn't going to happen. 1.2-1.4M will be as high as UT goes IMOOur offer has to overcompensate for the state of our program. We are selling him an idea. Other schools don’t have to do that.
He's certainly improved it considerably.
He also inherited a clean program with no NCAA problems, no APR problems and some good kids from Serrano.

I can sure appreciate him handling over a clean program. That is HUGELY important, in my book. I wish Pearl and Pruitt would have done that. And no doubt about the good kids.
But Serrano's record after 6 years of 500 ball was 27-25. In only 3 complete seasons in four years under CTV, we are in Omaha with 50 wins, SEC East champs, and a #3 NCAA tournament seeding. Improved it considerably is putting it mildly. It's Saban-esque.
"Improved it considerably" seems a very lackluster way of putting it. In the 10 years before CTV arrived, the two coaches we had never had a winning SEC record, and only had a winning overall record 4 times.
Year 4 with CTV and we're in Omaha. That's beyond considerable improvement. That's complete revitalization and turnaround of the program to national prominence.
But you said the state of our progam deserves over compensation.
Exactly what is it about the state of our program that demands over compensation?
txbo, you've got me confused with another poster, orange parmejohn. He said overcompensate. But I am helping him make his point as well as mine with my posts.
You are correct that the program was not a dumpster fire when CTV took it over, and it was a clean program with some talent and good kids in it. But it was mired in mediocrity in terms of wins/losses.
Can you think of another coach in the college baseball world who took a mediocre program with subpar facilities and amenities this far this fast? That is Sabanesqe, i.e. - the sign of someone who will make us a perennial national power. I agree with those who think he should be overcompensated to keep him here, if being a perennial power is what we want.
