Coming after Vitello

Idk if it’ll reach the level of mayhem after Kiffin dipped out but it’ll be close

As much as our rational minds would say: "It's a business decision. He's doing what he feels is best for him and his future and I respect that". The irrational part screams "He goes from hero to villain over night". I don't even want to think about it to be honest. The melt from me alone would be something else. I can't imagine the entire fanbase.

Hoping like hell it doesn't happen. If we can make it through this off season and get the upgrades and salary increases for TV & his staff I think it's hard to see him going anywhere for a very, very long time. We just have to make it through this summer.

Well, whatever the offer is to date, it must not be enough…because he hasn’t accepted it. More concerning is that there doesn’t appear to be a counteroffer.
Why would there be a counter offer when you are packing your bags for Omaha? Why would you make an offer before you possibly reach your potential? Would he not have more leverage if he were to win the CWS? Only then would you know what you are bargaining for.

Hopefully Mike White has absolutely nothing to do with our baseball program :)

He’s the AD…he has a lot to do with every program. There are these things called “budgets” that don’t make themselves…and in such budgets are line items for coaches’ salaries, recruiting, equipment, facility maintenance, etc.

UTAD doesnt operate like the US Govt where it can just print money to cover budgeting shortfalls. I know it will be news to many on here, but there really is a set amount of money to be divided up each year among the sports.

Russell Smith says Ole Miss has let it be known to Tony V’s people they’d be interested if Bianco leaves. Sexton has also advised Vitello to hold out on signing the extension with UT to let everything play out. UT has apparently given Tony everything he’s asked for.

I don’t think Tony wants to leave, but he has all the leverage right now. It would make sense to wait it out and squeeze everything you can out of this run. I mean, he could bring a natty to the table in the next two weeks.

Just not sure why the Florida basketball coach would be involved in UT budgets...

I not only agree with what a wonderful job he's done in a short time, I'd go one step further and say had he not been cheated out of last year by covid, the results could have been even more remarkable. Last year's squad had potential to be even better than this year, assuming of course they stay healthy. Zack Daniel, Leath, Crochet, etc. That was year 3. This is really year 3+.... And we're not done. A coach that takes this team to Omaha is worth a lot. A coach that takes this team to the CWS Final is worth even more. A coach that wins a CWS is worth even more than that.... And I honestly believe our chances are as good as any.

If that performance deserves over compensation, then I would agree that he's earned it.

But that's not what was said. He said Vitello deserves over compensation beacuse of the state of the program. That suggests that there are some additional challenges or roadblocks. The Heupel and White contracts are good examples of over compensation for that reason. And I just don't see that as the case with baseball. Sure the stadium needs updated... but that's not going to stop him from winning. He's already proved that.

We agree. Thanks for the exchange.

LSU fans are absolutely frothing at the mouth thinking of having Vitello in their dugout next season, and Arkansas fans have already tagged him as Van Horn's successor. It's great to have a coach everybody else wants, because that obviously means he's doing something right, but seeing how entitled both of these mouth-breathing fan bases feel to a guy who's currently wearing an orange jersey is a little nauseating. They fully expect to steal our lunch money with zero effort.

Yes, the scenario exists where we offer him everything he wants only to see him go somewhere else, but I'd like this to be an opening salvo from Danny White that demonstrates a renewed commitment to winning across the board. This is absolutely going to mean ponying up big time money and making big time promises, but unless we're content getting bullied by our SEC counterparts, it's what has to happen.

It is, quite honestly, shocking to see how much Vitello has revitalized a long-dormant program in just a few seasons. He's delivered beyond anybody's wildest expectations. Let's repay him for his efforts and make it clear that everything he wants to accomplish can be done right here in Knoxville.

Yep. His stock can certainly go up in the next two weeks..... Little chance of it going down.

Only going to hold or rise. And it is wise on his part to wait until the Vols are finished. Now selfishly, I'd love to click.on here and see a new thread titled Coach V locked up long term with new contract and pay raises and LNS expansion all laid out in detail, but realistically he knows the cards he's holding and the cards UT is holding.

I am 100% convinced TV would be at LsU or A&am had they offered for the fact they are significantly better jobs than Tenn. For the same reason I don’t think he takes Ole mIss. I don’t think it’s any better of a job and maybe not as good now imo

LSU is not a better job anymore the 90’s are long gone and they have been living off the fumes of those titles for a long time. They are a has been program. When LSU was winning their titles the only competition they had was Miami, Stanford, Texas and cal st Fullerton and a few others. There are so many good programs and players around that those days of dominance are over. Texas a and m have only one more CWS than Tennessee. I don’t see them as being better maybe same level.

Wait, wait, wait, hold on…did you just type the Vols job is equal to or is better than OM, am I reading that right?

I know we can keep promising upgrades, they don’t need any, they can pay him anything, traditional program…I mean wasn’t it just a few months ago when somebody said, we caught a break scheduling wise not having to play the Mississippi schools?

But hey, I will have some of what yer drinking!

GBO!!!

I would say Bruin is speaking of talent level mostly. If not, “It’s 5:00 Somewhere”

I'm not. Opinions vary.

We use to think VOLS football was a great job-- huge stadium and facilities-- great fans! We haven't been able to get the coaches the fans/TPTB wanted since Kiffin left and went to USC. We were suppose to be thrilled to get Schiano, which felt like a gutt punch, and we know how that went.

I think there is a trend that coaches who start something good at a power 5 school (and who get good pay etc) tend to stay in place. I don't think Bruce Pearl would have left had he not got in trouble. Even Rick Barnes got a great offer, and he ended up staying after getting paid well.

I hope I am right and Tony V will continue to be our power baseball program builder.

You put a solid offer on the table for him and you promise, in writing, to get him to Corbin money over the next 2 or 3 years IF the program continues to be one of the best in the SEC.
CTV has to have some skin in the game IMO.

If LSU is dumb enough to pay him as much as the best coach in college baseball right now, that is on them. We should not be that dumb. He is a fourth year head coach.
Is Corbin the best coach or does he have a built in advantage that allows for him to recruit on a level only mirrored by Alabama football? We never will, but I’d like to see him at a public school with resources on par with the rest of the league/country. I despise Dave Van Horn but his resume isn’t dwarfed by Corbin’s and his recruiting classes aren’t nearly on Vandy’s level.

New AD might become UTAD White if he finds a way to keep CTV.
As of yet, nothing he has done has warranted us learning his name.
If he fails we can use the baseball terminology "STRIKE TWO"
Swing and a miss on getting us a top football coach.

I think Heupel is going to surprise some people.
