Corbin already Turned Down LSU once and they don’t have the money to get Corbs. Vanderbilt will dip into the big fund to match anything LSU offers. Plus Maggie loves Nashville and Baton Rouge is a hot nothing.
Where did Tony say that? I don’t think he would admit to that right before the world series.
I don't disagree with you about Corbin, but the larger point I'm trying to make is I think Woodward is after a sure thing splash hire that will assure LSU continues as a national baseball power. That is very important to LSU fan base. I wouldn't be surprised if he's trying to interview any of the coaches who have their teams in Omaha. Or if he's there to interview Van Horn or another top coach who isn't in the tournament but is attending the annual event. II think it's important that he get a big scalp, preferably someone who has won a natty and/or is an established perennial baseball power coach.
Even the “sane” LSU fans are calling out the moronic faction for grasping at straws with the quote. It was an off hand comment talking about the super regional atmosphere at LNS. Apparently an LSU booster told him how impressive the environment was. I took it as though the LSU booster was in Knoxville for the supers.
You can go back and listen to the interview on Foxsports Knoxville (The Drive) from Friday. I know some LSU fans have run with this but I don’t know how much you can take from the comment.
I’m not sure it makes sense to pull any meaning from Woodward going to Omaha.
1) if he’s allegedly there to “scout” coaches, there are plenty of avenues more suited than sitting in the stands at TDA. Watch game film. Hell, in the case of Corbin and TV, he’s seen both up close multiple times.
2) You don’t just pull coaches aside to interview them. You get permission from the school first. And then you meet them somewhere. No need to go to Omaha for that.
He’s probably in Omaha taking in the event and yes, doing some networking. But I wouldn’t take it to mean he’s specifically targeting coaches there. I get the feeling that search is still pretty open. I’m sure he’s interested in coach’s there, including TV. Why wouldn’t he be? I’m sure there are also others he’s interested in.
What you say makes sense, and you just might be right. Still, many of the coaches he would target are right there at Omaha right now, and if he has gotten permission to talk to a coach who is there, he can interview him after that coach's team is eliminated, or wins the whole thing. I'm guessing some of that is going on, too.
I see similarities between Omaha and wherever the Final Four is each year. They are places that coaches, agents, and ADs can go and network. If I remember correctly, the basketball coaches even have their national conference coincide with the Final Four.
Kendall Rogers is milking it on Twitter with tweets about flight tracking LSU's plane.
I've enjoyed reading the tigerdroppings. It takes me back to a time when we looked like fools with the Gruden rumors.
They are now spinning it as a positive that the Vols lost and are speculating TV will be announced as the LSU skipper on Wednesday after they lose to Texas.
Soon.........
Fingers crossed they end up with a " up and comer" from Northwest Texas State

This fan base, boosters and administration have clearly shown that they will support baseball if you put a good product on the field.
If he leaves, he leaves. Somebody else will be attracted to what is available here.
The turnout yesterday was pretty impressive. Hard to put a number on it. But considering it is west of the Mississippi and much further north, it was good to see.
