Confidence level in the 2016 recruiting class? (merged)

Are we on schedule to pull in a top recruiting class this off season or should we expect a down year? And if so, why? Curious to know the thoughts of Volnation. From what I've heard we will be lucky to get into the top 10 this year. I'll hang up and listen:)

Dust off your flame suits for asking. Consensus is a small but potent class that will stack up on AVG talent but not neccessarily in rankings. General thoughts are we will close strong in trademark Butch style but little rumble on that front presently.

Not as many scholarships to offer this year than year's past. However, the overall average rating is Top 10 this year.
9th to be exact according to rivals.

OP, sure, there has been some concerning news the past few weeks but we don't always know everything going on behind the scenes. Based on his track record, I still have confidence that Butch will close strong until he proves otherwise.

I was thinking yesterday that we need a hotlist thread to track guys we are after these last couple of months. Might be a fun way to keep tabs on the guys we are looking to close on.

I believe they are giving the 2017 class a lot of their time too. I believe that class will be a great one.

I've come to learn its just a vocal minority. People round here are on edge....especially since many started screaming for CBJs head on a platter after starting 3-5 and starting the Crowder rumors. It's sort of like McCarthyism.

Apparently these kids don't fully appreciate how truly impressive 8-4 actually is...especially with a 5 game streak to end the year over conference stalwarts like Vanderbilt and Kentucky and out of conference legends like North Texas.

Smoke and mirrors, used car sales. Butch had something to sell in those early classes....early playing time. The bloom is off the rose, and Butch underachieved.

Take stupid and cram it.

Smoke and mirrors might have worked for one class but he has shown first class was no anomaly.

I know Butch can recruit. Again, he had something to offer with both classes. However, his coaching chops have been exposed this year...others will recruit to that. This will get worse before it gets better I'm afraid.

This was never going to be stellar class in the rankings, simply due to the number that we could sign....but the attrition is going to make it worse. Hopefully he will address needs well enough, and make up the shortfall in 2017.

I think the first two 3* decommits were the UT coaching staff's doing (higher rated players available). 4* DT Christmas-Giles is understandable since LSU finally offered the homer. 5* QB Hunter Johnson, as much as it sucks, is also understandable. We are stacked at QB with the possibility of adding Trevor Lawrence in the '18 class. Worry not - plenty of time until the ink dries on NSD.

Well...me. Who did he beat that he wasn't supposed to beat....with the talent we all like to brag about?

We were on even footing with everyone we played, and could not coach ourselves over the hump. That is the definition of underachieving.

I suspected 8-9 wins in the summer. When we played OU to overtime, I realized the talent was in place. There were some personel decisions I question....but even I cannot deny the talent is in place. Coaching was the difference IN MY OPINION.

Sorry to dissapoint Butch. I may differ with people, but I don't tell them their statements are stupid. In my opinion that shows a lack of communication skills....so "cram it" leveled the playing field.
