Confidence level in the 2016 recruiting class? (merged)

Lol. The die hard pot stirrers live for this stuff.

The king stirrer himself has made it over from the FF tonight. Found himself a new platform.

Lots of posters here are worried. The staff nudges 2 commits out the door. I take that as evidence they don't share those concerns. Is it possible the staff knows something that the coaches on this board don't?

Very possible....I sincerely hope that is the case. I've learned not to be too surprised with what Butch pulls out of his hat. I hope he's got some surprises left. We'll see.

trust in Butch.

Id rather have Jarrett than Hunter personally. one year sooner, taller...reminds me of Kaepernick.

I'm not that worried about losing HJ as long as we get a quality QB in the 2018 class. We are set for now and can go a class without a QB in it, but if 2018 rolls around and we haven't picked up another solid commit (doesn't necessarily need to be TL) then I might worry.

As far as this class goes, like I said in earlier posts, if Butch can just close and get 3-4 of those top targets and push us in the Top 15-20 then I think this will be a successful class. This class is all about depth.

Funny how we comfort ourselves at bad news. How many people on here have stated this recruiting season ,"that 2016 may be down but wait till 2017", Now how are we going to comfort ourselves...."Just wait till Trevor gets here in 2018.!!!".:eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

Well...me. Who did he beat that he wasn't supposed to beat....with the talent we all like to brag about?

We were on even footing with everyone we played, and could not coach ourselves over the hump. That is the definition of underachieving.

I suspected 8-9 wins in the summer. When we played OU to overtime, I realized the talent was in place. There were some personel decisions I question....but even I cannot deny the talent is in place. Coaching was the difference IN MY OPINION.

So you "suspected" 8 or 9 wins over the summer, yet they underachieved because you raised your expectations off of 1 game?

Got it.

Sorry to dissapoint Butch. I may differ with people, but I don't tell them their statements are stupid. In my opinion that shows a lack of communication skills....so "cram it" leveled the playing field.

Not even when the comment is stupid?

We just lost a 4 star DT for 2016, and now a 5 star QB for 2017. We are currently ranked 27th by rivals.com with 15 players verbally committed for next year. With 5-6 more player openings for 2016, I hope Butch hasn't lost his magic touch and we can at least climb back into the top 20.

It's going to happen when you got some good players already. It's about playing time. It also could be making room for other players.

Keep Calm...bUTch can recruit.

Some of those guys were place holders. I'm confident we will finish in the top 15.

It's a good question. I think there's a thought that the class will be smaller, so it won't rank as high as the previous two. But it does make you think when you here two of out top prospects - albeit different years - have rescinded their commitments.

I think the biggest difference is we haven't had a Vic Wharton or a K-Mac recruiting for us. Recently Guarantano tweeted about players being a part of a title run, so maybe he can help pull some guys to finish out the class.

Other than that I don't know why we're behind, but I know that signing day is still a couple months off and a lot can change in that time. We're still on some quality guys that can change the complexion of the class in a hurry.

I wonder if nudging those two guys out has more to do with the 85 scholarship limit than the 25 limit. We have 3 blueshirts that count in this class, which gives us 22 spots. However, we only have room for 18 commitments with 0 attrition (which obviously won't happen). Maybe Butch and Co. are confident Sutton and JRM will return. I suspect RS Sr's that are down the depth chart like Bullock, Blair, and Bynum will move on to make room for the 20-22 guys incoming.

I'm not shocked that the QB flipped. Guarantano is being touted as the future QB of Tennessee 100% and players with talent don't want to have to wait in line too long. And if Guarantano red shirts a year (like someone had mentioned he's okay with) that pushes the other QB off even more.

Losing the 2017 QB was not a surprise. He wants to be "the guy" and with Guarantano coming in, he was a little overshadowed.

For the rest of recruiting I think we all pretty much knew this was going to be a down year with so few spots available.

USC takes smaller classes, due to obvious Kiff-easons. And are usually top 10.

So, i dont buy into that. In the Doug Matthews interview i read 'smaller class gives us ability to pick and choose who we want, even if lower rated guys'. How is that? it should be the complete reverse.

We have absolute needs in secondary, WR; and OL. pretty simple.

Two of those skill positions should elicit interest from really highly rated guys...since theyre easier to evaluate at that age. Butch is a good recruiter, but hes got his work cut out. Were too late to the battle for the OSU/Ok/Al/Ga battles.

Gonna really have to pound the pavement to close well.

click whores on SDS and the like....i don't think it's a huge deal, except in the timing of all of them happening around the same time. individually though, especially Johnson, they kind of make sense.

so no, i'm not real worried right now. if we get to Signing Day and there's not a equally positive reaction to what has transpired the last week or two, then i might start to worry.

Losing HJ is a big loss but this staff has already Signed Dormady and S. Jones. 2016 JG is also in the fold. QB looks stacked.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Players seem to be a little more jumpy now that a commitment doesn't seem to mean much to neither the player or the school. I trust Butch.
