Confident USU Fans (blue cool-aid)

Funniest thread I have read in a long time. Basically, a Utah State fan has come on here and tried to rationally discuss the upcoming football game between his favorite team and our favorite team.

And, because he won't admit that Utah State will be intimidated by the size of the crowd (said they have played in big stadiums), won't wilt in the smothering humidity (said they have played in the South before), won't be intimidated by a BCS school (said they have played several teams better than UT in the past 3-5 years and haven't been blown out), and he won't admit that Utah State is another WKy and/or Austin Peay, y'all lost your minds.

From what I have read, ficklez has basically said, Utah State is a solid mid major program who has played on the road against several legit D1 programs in the past and looks forward to coming to Knoxville and playing Tennessee. He thinks UT will win but that the Aggies will be a very good opponent for the Vols.

Most have responded with "SEC", "Vols have much more talent", "Blowout", "too much speed", and "you have multiple wives." Amazingly, ficklez has kept his cool with the exception of a few posts.

Very entertaining thread. This game will be very entertaining too and the Vols will have to be on top of their game to get the W. They should win but I sure don't want to see Keeton get the ball at the end of the game with a chance to win.

Vols by 7-10 pts.

Most solid post I have seen on almost any sports forum anywhere. Very well done. Levelheadedness prevails some times.

I have stated that I think UT will win by a couple of scores. I don't understand why anyone would doubt that USU fans really believe this will be a close game and doubt whether USU will be ready to play. USU is used to winning and we are not. We usually beat down these types of schools (even recently) but we are not feared as we were a few years ago. We are way more talented and I think that will carry the day but we can't say "we'll win because we are in the SEC" when we are losing to the power schools just like the mid-major schools are.

Your post is much better than mine trying to say the same thing.:hi:

Ficklez needs to understand that this fan base is large and it's presence on the web is substantial. He's poked a few folks and they have hung out in this thread making it their personal mission to give him/her hell.

If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

congrats on going 1-24 vs the last 25 ranked teams you played. I now see why you will stomp us.

UT plays top 25 teams... and bunches of them. You SHOULD understand that it is quite different playing 6-8 teams that good in a year vs playing one or two. It wears your players down. It requires more depth. You don't get away with having an off game... the pressure is just that much greater. That's a big part of the point being made... though I personally think the past is irrelevant to this game. You aren't playing past UT teams and UT isn't playing past USU teams.

The difference in this game is UT's skill players vs your back 7 and especially in the passing game. I don't think you can cover them... and blitzing could possibly be the WORST thing you could do.

You lost me...:loco:

I agree their objective is making money. The ONLY way to guarantee they make money is to have a 50/50 split between 2 teams.

I'm unsure what point you and the other poster are trying to make.

Vegas sets an initial line based on their various models, etc. UT started out as a 7 point favorite, it has since moved to UT -6.5. That's not a ton of movement but the early money went slightly on USU. The line is holding pretty steady so far, but you would expect it to as we're still 2 weeks away. If the line is holding steady that means that money is coming in evenly on both sides.

Where or how are they being biased? I'm honestly asking because I'm not wrapping my brain around what you guys are talking about.

Basically that Vegas does not care about accurately picking the score or winner. They could care less. Therefore odds early in the season aren't necessarily a better means of forecasting a game than talking heads or posters on a chat board. The people betting don't necessarily look at the players lost or gained. They may not even know that USU players have had some legal issues. Most are probably placing their bets based on UT's tradition and being SEC vs USU's recent success.

You nailed it. I never saw where he said USU will win, either.

I haven't gone back over there but I believe it is fickle who is pretty tame here then goes off on their fan board. I could be wrong since it has been a few months since I went over there... but I'm pretty sure he's predicted a USU win there.

secondary: definite unknown. probably better in coverage at the safety position, but definitely not at CB. they seem solid though. compared to the auburn game, they're much better. why you think they are "a poor secondary" is beyond me. You know as much about how good our secondary is as I do about how good Butch is in bed (a little based on internet videos, but not enough to even make a wild stab at it) Still. Our secondary was TERRIBLE against auburn. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. We are better as a unit, no question, right now than we were in that game. Wisconsin version was solid, as was USC.
Wait. He can't know that they are a poor secondary because they are an unknown... but you CAN know they're better without question than they were vs Auburn? How exactly does that work?

You can't have it both ways. They're either "unknown" or they're not.

My contention is that they simply don't have the size and athletic ability to hang with UT's receivers. On the whole, I don't think your back 7 has the speed to hang with UT's skill players in the passing game. If you blitz as you have said USU would then someone is going to be man to man against a player that is bigger, faster, and stronger than they are. Blitzing also plays into Worley's strength- decision making.

The better play is probably sitting back in zone and making UT execute... though that might not work out for you either.

If you read my posts, you'd see that I haven't called for USU to win this game even once. I think UT will. I just think you're all being unrealistic about how good USU is.

Here is one of the several times where ficklez said he thinks Tennessee will win the game. He seemed very rational in his discussion on this board. Unlike most of the posters on this thread, he used a lot of facts.

TL;DR.

Vols have much more talent...SEC speed for days son. Vols in a blowout. Maybe all the wives will wipe away the tears.

Oh and... Romney lol.

It would seem most of the computer services would expect a Utah St. win.

USU: aggregated pre-season rank of 44
range from a high of 10 to a low of 71

UT: aggregated pre-season rank of 62
range from a high of 46 to a low of 80

College Football Ranking Composite

I don't even want to think what data they're feeding the computers.

Not necessarily b/c of TN's rank, I just can imagine what in the world they're even using.

Was looking at the Fox news clip on MSN just now.. they are discussing the Top-25. I always scroll down to the feedback at the bottom, typical S.E.C. bashing going on. We were brought up a couple times... One was for sure an Oregon fan explaining how they gave Tennessee its worst beating ever (thanks Dooley), and then a Utah State fan decided to chime in to explain how they are coming to K-town to remind the S.E.C and Tennessee the end is near for the S.E.C.

Hurry up Season!!

Go Vols

I was trying to cover up the Dooley part. They gave the worst beating to Butch.

Ha ha.. I actually Blocked that idea out of my head!! I HONESTLY knew it was last year But,..... I am on the Wagon...... I discuss the Dooley concept so much (I am just south of Birmingham now) whenever it is something negative about the Vols I go directly to Dooley.. actually I am correct in one concept.. it was Dooley's recruits:)

Go Vols:dance2::crazy:

I was looking for ficklez on that site. I remember from before that his tone was totally different there. I think he changed his name there to hide it.

But while I was searching their member index... I found a poster whose screen name is.... "fivewives".

That's Got to be him:dance2:

I just went to the USU boards..... they have announced on there that Worley is the starting QB for us, and you should see what they write! They are a very confident group. One posted he was coming to the practice Saturday night (in Gatlinburg visiting family).... I wish I could come, but my point is he stated he would be taking notes and posting them on their site, I will be anxious to see his comparison of the practice to what Volnation members will see.

Oh gosh hurry up Gameday!!
