Conservative Playcalling (merged)

Personally, I loved it. A win is a win. Wasn’t pretty but got it done. Quality win on the road against a quality opponent. I’m tickled
Same. It was almost exactly what I expected, minus one or two Nico interceptions. Once Heard was ruled out, we all should have known that the offense would look similar to last year.

Some people think offensive success in the SEC is as easy as calling downfield passes on every possession. Silly. We gave Davis an opportunity to prove we could do that and he got beat on both ends of the line. Why continue giving them opportunities to have a short field when the defense was dominant? Heupel impressed me tonight. Big, big win!

they will lose down the road with this conservative crap.
It seems you don’t understand the situation so let me explain it bud.

They couldn’t move the ball. We had a multiple score lead. Our starting LT was out. Our back up got taken advantage of a few times and a Nico injury with a clearly in hand game would have been bad.

He clearly knew the defense was more than they could handle and decided to let them win the game.

To call the most aggressive coach we’ve ever had as “so conservative he will cost us a game” has to be the most short sighted, football knowledge lacking comment I’ve seen on this message board all year.

Do better kid.

I was impressed by OUs defense. Only 3 yards per rush and just 9 per pass.

I’m not sure if Heup was conservative because it was Nico’s first road game, the field conditions, the OL injuries, or just not wanting to embarrass his Alma mater but we could not run the ball very well and everything starts there with this offense. But OU’s front seven was pretty tough I thought and you could tell they came well prepared for this game. They also seemed to know what our checks were. I’m a little concerned about that.

It was a very boring approach to the game, but I understand it. We weren't getting much done in the run game and OU was trying to bait Nico into making mistakes. It was their only way to generate offense.

You already got some good plays from Nico. Last thing you want to do is shatter his confidence with more turnovers. Let's not mismanage our 5 star like Oklahoma did to Arnold.

At the end of the day you take the top #15 win on the road, get Lance Heard back after the bye, and continue developing Nico.

I saw at the end, where he pulled it back. Controlled the clock. I thought that was a great call. He isn’t going to pull it back no more. I think we get going now. Our defense is lights out the rest of the way. It’s going to be fun.
CJH managed the game great...he did right, he did well. If the W is there to be had, take it. He did, rightfully so.

Smart move by CJH. Very impressed with his ability to make winning decisions. I love all our guys but OL replacements simply could not pass protect effectively tonight. OU’s only hope was more turnovers. CJH recognized that early and coached around it. Great job. Huge win for the program

Some of y’all wouldn’t know an adjustment if it walked up and kicked you in the d***. One of 2 things (or both) were going to continue happening…fumbles/large negative plays or Nico wasn’t walking out of there. Left Tackle was whipped all night long. As dominant as our defense was, theirs wasn’t all that far behind. We beat a top 15 team on the road, at night, with all the narrative noise, playing 3rd string linemen, adjusting to a qb we didn’t prepare for, with a freshmen qb playing for the first time on the road. We won, covered the spread, and did so in a fashion that felt much more dominant than the final score showed. We’re out of the forest…just enjoy it.

Oline struggling is what caused it imo. He let the defense do their thing and scaled back the offense to minimize turnover risk.

A road win is always great. But the offensive woes still leave a little sour taste.
Gotta believe this is the reason. Two strip sacks because of Dayne Davis, and with the way our defense was playing there was no reason to risk giving them a gift
