Could Dooley have landed Malone?

Yall call??

Nobody knows if he would have landed him or not. Especially if the guy would have gotten full support from the AD, and the Legion of the Miserable wouldn't have been out in force so fast. WR U was in full force under Dooley so that was a plus in his favor.

Got to love the people who call others out, and all they do is hang on trying to degrade others to try to make them feel better about their pathetic lives. And yes...buchha u r one of those.

You're the tiebreaker....Dooley: Misunderstood recruiting genius? OR Tennessee High School Kryptonite?

Hell no! Butch has landed six of the top eight players in the state. Hell Dooley would have been lucky to get 2 of the top 20 in the state. Butch has sent a clear message to the nation, let alone in state schools, that Tennessee belong to UT. STATEment made!

Why rehash the past on a day like this? Better days are ahead for UT football, no point in dragging ourselves and former coaches through the mud at this point. At least for today let's enjoy the Malone commitment and the fact that this staff has built a fence around the state.

so wish I could like your post a thousand more times...and the idiot needs to change his name, too close to the guitar god

Sorry Barbara. You can still listen to 5150 and think of Vince and Derek.

Son of Vince though forgot what state he needed to lock-down while roaming my beloved sidelines with his stool and his Orange pants.

Since you asked nicely I'm not going to disappoint (or surprise) :)
Dooley: WR recruiting/coaching genius who usually focused on areas of country where he had connections and that have larger talent pools than Tennessee HS football. However Malone is good enough where he probably would have made exception and recruited and signed him to UT (no receiver would easily turn CDD down after the job he did with Hunter and CP in terms of getting them exposure at UT and helping them get drafted into NFL).
Happy?

Stephen Hargis, columnist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, wrote an excellent article entitled, "Home Improvement: Jones repairing relationships with TN high schools," in Rocky Top Tennessee, pp. 47-50. Among other points, Hargis provides a harsh indictment of Dooley's "recruitment" of Jalen Hurd. Jalen's high school coach, Anthony Crabtree, said that he never met Dooley and only spoke to him once, when he called Dooley to inquire as to whether Tennessee had any interest in recruiting Hurd. He found it mindboggling that we had a five-star running back instate, one that was being recruited heavily by Alabama, Ohio State and virtually every major program in the country, but Tennessee had demonstrated no overt interest in him. If Dooley did not bother to recruit a home-grown five-star running back, what evidence is there to suggest that Dooley would have bothered to recruit a five-star WR right down the road from Jalen?

Rex, there is a faction of Tennessee fans who refuse to believe the incompetence of the prior staff regardless of how many sources tell them their stories. Many TN fans refuse to believe the degree the program has fallen in talent from the 1990s. The story you just posted Ive heard similar from other coaches around Nashville. The Hurd story was being told while DD was at Tennessee, not after he was fired.

My opinion is that Dooley was on such hot seat last year that he did not focus on recruiting in general. I think he was hoping to have a huge year with that great offense and use that to turn his fortunes around at UT - so his focus was on game planning and coaching more than recruiting which became a distraction at that point (and that plan would have worked if not for Sunseri). Then he would have been able to easily close the recruiting gap and catch up on recruiting after the season (he proved he can recruit very well and very quickly when he had momentum right after he was hired). Also, as far as WR recruiting goes, remember that Dooley was even able to get the #1 JC recruit in the country (CP) after he lost to UK and his job was clearly at risk.

Even arguing can be fun if done respectfully :good!:
If I get frustrated I try to remind myself that I have something very important in common with everyone I argue with on this board - we all have incredible passion for this program or would not be wasting so much time endlessly arguing and discussing just about anything that touches UT football.

If the bamboo farmer were still I think Malone is at Clemson.

Or worse, a Franklin recruit.

Actually, the worst thing is having Vols fans like you dragging up Dooley and your love affair withhim. Malone's coming to the UT is good news for UT fans.
It's wonderful especially seeing we haven't had a lot to rejoice about very much this recent season. But instead of focusing on this bit of misfortune, you had to drag up Dooley. The man is GONE, he isn't coming back. Why the h3ll you folks can't let him stay gone is beyond me.

Dooley had nothing to do with CP being drafted. He would have been drafted high no matter where he played.

The whole holier than thou crowd who have made a cameo in this thread are beyond tedious.

Son of Vince deserves every bit of fun poked at him true Vol fans can muster. He earned that.

Second this praises Butch for overcoming the bamboo farmer's failure in our state. And since it is already the off-season Butch needs to overachieve.

Welcome J Malone! Well done CBJ!

Would Trooper Taylor or Randy Sanders have landed him?

I can't believe this is a question.

Please prove he didn't have their full support during his tenure. Maybe if the guy wasn't so damn involved in getting custom orange pants and whether the trash cans were the correct dimensions....oh nevermind.
