Could Dooley have landed Malone?

I think dooley could have pulled Malone, Kelly, Wharton, and hurd regardless. the rest of this class though, no way.

Doubt it. Dooley recruited filler not difference makers.

Filler says hello,

Both Kelly and Hurd have publicly disagreed with your opinion.

Given his track record with local H.S. coaches I don't think so.

Malone's H.S. coach, was my head coach, and as I stated earlier in the Malone recruiting thread, Coach Holli is a huge UT fan so it would take a lot for Dooley to turn him off/away from him wanting Malone to go to UT. However, knowing Coach Holli it would not surprise me at all for him to support Malone wherever he wanted to go. Thats just the kind of guy/coach he is. Great, great guy. However, knowing Dooley's track record with people loving him and him making them feel all warm and cozy, I'd probably put money on the latter haha

Dooley landed Hunter, Rogers, and Patterson. The fact he couldn't get talent to perform as a unit to produce wins was his issue, not recruiting.

Hunter and Rogers were recruited by Kiffin and that was the best class of his tenure. They committed while Dooley was coach but Ed O recruited Rogers and Hunter was speculated to be coming here and dropping LSU before Dooley came in.

Who cares about Vince - he got CP and Hunter which is more than enough proof he could recruit with the best of them (when he was focused on recruiting).

Kiffin started the process of recruiting Hunter and Rogers, Dooley was just lucky they decided to come after he left. Dooley was a horrible coach that couldn't even beat a bad Kentucky team with a WR playing QB. He could never get the players to buy in, treated former players like crap, and was a horrible game manager. He couldn't even win at la tech he and never should have been hired here. I know Kiffin left us in a mess but a real coach could've handle the situation a lot better.

And while I was glad to have CP here he was likely a one and done player regardless of where he went.

But he easily beat Butch and the rest of the best bearcat staff in America :loco:

As a Vols fan you must have enjoyed this great TD from that game - not sure what that defender is crying about either? He must not have learned snap and clear? :)

So Dooley beating a team with lesser talent makes him a great coach? It's bad when you have to use Dooley beating a big east team as the basis for your argument.

Well the great Kentucky football superpower beat us with WR playing QB (as you pointed out) - so it follows that the best staff in America should have found the way to beat us as well?

The team had quit by that point, I remember bray saying something about how he didn't want to win because he didn't want to go to some crapy bowl game. If Dooley was such a great coach he shouldn't have let a player play with that kind of attitude, I don't care who his back up was, with that attitude if you are a competent coach you sit that player.

You were there and heard Bray say that to Dooley? Or did you personally watch Bray's body language during Kentucky game preparation week (which Dooley obviously must have missed)?
Wow - you really are full of insights that only real insiders can learn around the water fountain :loco:

Butch didn't have the exact same staff at Cincy that he has at UT. Stupid analogy. Butch had far, far, far less talent at Cincy than Dooley had. It wasn't even close.

So when he was in Cincy he could not beat Dooley because Dooley had superior talent. Fine - Butch moved to UT to be able to coach that great talent Dooley recruited for him - but then he gets here and goes 5-7 (worse than Dooley did in his first year when he made the bowl game under more difficult conditions Kiffin left behind).
Something about this string of excuses is so funny :eek:lol:

No I didn't hear it personally but it was reported after the game the bray had said that. Why do you feel need to defend such an incompetent failure of a coach? Is that you Barbara?

All the offensive talent that Dooley supposedly recruited is gone, that argument won't work.

Not Barbara (although I have been called that many times on this board by other rednecks so you are not alone).
CDD gave it his best shot and did not make it here. But it was not for lack of trying and I'm grateful to him for what he tried to do here and how he went about it. He built one of the best offenses in the country and school history in 3 years and all that talent was fun to watch (and still is on Sundays).
So why don't you let it go and focus on the future - you can talk Butch up all you want but there is no reason to keep slamming Dooley, Kiffin, and especially Fulmer.
