Country music thread

Tojours and I have repeatedly expressed how we don’t usually care for recent patriotic songs, but “Dress Blues” is Isbell’s second best song. It’s fantastic

A guy I work with tells of story of his time living in Eastern GA. He said he frequented a bar where Isbell performed a lot as he was coming up. Said he’s never heard a bar as quiet as the first time that crowd heard Dress Blues.

Also said the bar paid Jason in liquor. He’d do a couple of songs then go to the bar and fill his glass himself. Said he’d finish a bottle of whatever they’d give him before he left the stage.

I think Nightmare, Three Days and Take Me Out To a Dancehall are the only worthwhile songs. A lot of the changes they made ruin the vibe of the respective song. Crazy is a good example of that. Dancehall Dreamer is the worst imo. Totally screws up the song imo. Pat gives it a slight optimistic vibe, like eventually things will turn around. It’s the saddest song on the tribute.

Cory tries to make Adios Days a happy song. Wtf?
My review.

John Baumann made a new fan though. Man he's good.

The new Kacey Musgraves album is middle of the road. A couple of good songs and more pop than typical from her. Nothing that just grabs you in.

The sound isn’t awful. There’s fiddle, banjo and steel even. But it’s very mellow and a lot more artistic. Ultimately, it’s a standard third album from a major label I guess. 😢

Glad that Isbell has cleaned up. I can’t fathom hearing Dress Blues in a bar.

Gets a pretty big "meh" for me. Don't mind some of the music in it but the lyrics and vocals didn't do much for me. Listened to both songs on the page all the way through so definitely not terrible but don't think I'd ever go back and listen again.

Also, not that it has always been very genre strict in discussions of music in this thread but, I definitely wouldn't consider anything about it to be country. If I had to categorize it I'd probably say it sounds like diet blues music, or something along those lines.

I think that is what he is going for. It's a guy I know. It sounds like he is trying to combine to many sounds into one.

I liked the album. It’s not country but it seems genuine and that’s all that really matters to me. Besides the Bro country music generally being bad, it’s very dislikeable because the people singing the songs don’t believe the words coming out of their mouths. It’s all corporate generated hit words that they think will sell.

I like it, just a lot different then her first two albums. A lot of third albums go that route. She’s still my favorite female artist, but if Ashley Monroe’s new album is good, there could be a changing of the guard

Troubadours in Asheville 5/17. Tickets bought and hotel booked.

July 1st I get to see them for the first time ever and with Charley Crockett opening to boot. Add on to that it’s at a venue where my wife just so happens to control the VIP tickets for her company’s account. Sucks the slightest bit that it’s on a Sunday but I have a feeling Monday might be veeeeery unproductive.

Saw them with Charley in Chattanooga, he's great.

Assume he's opening in Asheville but kind of hope to see Travelin' Kine again.

And Salvage Station Nachos are the best ever. Ever.
