Critical race theory and elections

It could definitely be better. Most people graduate college without ever taking an economics course, which is just bonkers. Literally, everybody makes economic decisions all day every day, and most without any foundation for understanding that component of decision making.
Yep I agree……. There are several classes that even my elementary student studies that I have felt were a complete waste of time…. I’m not talking about some of the things that make them more well rounded students.

There is a fine line between just teaching something and adding propaganda to it that demagogues it. Whether it's history, art or some other important topics that interest kids, it makes them more will rounded. Some will go into these fields and some won't. As they get into high school they will have optional electives.
I agree…. I feel critical race theory will definitely hurt more than help.

I don't think kids get enough PE anymore. Such a shame from when I grew up in the 80's.

Fortunately it doesn't appear we have to worry about that in Tennessee. I want my kid taught history in school and want slavery covered but not in a way that perverts young minds in order to create indoctrinated revolutionaries that are protesting in the streets at 14 on a school night that is hard to guide.

I will cover some stuff at home. I don't need my job made harder by ideologues.

It would be the same thing as me teaching Christianity at home but they spoon feeding another religion at school as truth.

Yes, it is people like me. I acknowledge flaws in the system. You bury them. I want to talk about them and shine a light on them. Not to give minorities anything extra, but to make people realize what has happened because that is the best way to prevent the future from repeating the past. We have to find a way to break the cycle. Handouts don't work and neither does ignoring issues while wrapping yourself in the flag and proclaiming how great America is and always has been. If it makes you uncomfortable then I'd say you're the problem.

Then it should be talked about with adults and by adults. Why should young children be privy to the discussion? It’s not their fault. Also it doesn’t make me uncomfortable to talk about these things. But using systemic racism is a weak term.

Break what cycle?

I believe it should be mandatory in high school that a personal finance class must be taken before graduating.

It amazing how many people don’t understand why the principal on their $60,000 dollar car note that they financed for 96 months isn’t coming down. Especially when they are late paying every month. Or why they can never pay down credit card debt by making only the minimum payment.

My company offers a 5% match on 401k investments. I have a lot of conversations with young adults about taking advantage of this free money. I get a lot of responses of I can’t afford to lose $70 dollars out of my check each pay period, but they can afford to buy lunch everyday at a fast food place or their $7 dollar Starbucks coffee. They don’t get the concept that the match is a 100% return on their money.

I have helped a lot of people set up a budget but they never get the concept of paying their selves (saving money) first.

If your kids are learning Critical Race Theory in school, congratulations; they've made it to Law School.

Elements are creeping into classrooms. There is an agenda being driven. Some good some bad but even will intended ideas have disastrous effects.

What elements? Do you have any sample assignments or lessons?

No, I do not. But nationwide there are examples of assignments teachers have given outside of standard curriculum that are in line with tenants of critical race theory.

Then that's on individual teachers and should be dealt with through proper channels individually.

Of course they don't. They don't even know who the leading CR theorists are.

Also, the great misunderstanding that is not a theory that says "X happened and it's bad and your fault" but the fact that it's a lens through which to examine history. What's wrong with examining history? Is there a lump under the rug that people don't want found?
