Cross on the mound for Easter at the baseball game [MOVED]

Christianity is the easy target. Sort of like white males. To be a Christian, or most any other God believing religion, there are rules. People resent being told that there are rules.

That's why being a Christian is so amazing. The rules are simple. Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus knows that we are hopeless fallen people with rebellious hearts.

I know it's mind blowing that not everyone agrees with you. You either are for free expression or not, not just the ones you agree with. Are you really a libertarian or are you a liberaltarian. Are you a fascist? You've not seen one person here call for removal of any ideology except for you. Are you OK with the university sponsored Sex Week? Or because you don't find that offensive you think that's ok? Are you only concerned with offending non-Christians or do you care about what Christians might find offensive? Seems like you really are concerned with the feels of anything non-Christian but don't give a rats behind about how Christians may perceive something.
He's been very clear that he doesn't think any religious symbol should have been displayed there.

And I'm not judging whether any of the things you listed above are "right" or "wrong", but if you are so concerned about these things, Lee College or Bryan College or any multitude of other colleges or universities are ready to accept your child and tuition when you are.

Imagine if I sent my child to Bryan College and then whined incessantly that they are only being taught from a Christian perspective, or they only had Christian groups or activities to attend. If you want your child insulated from the worldviews that are out there, send them somewhere where they'll get the education and worldview you choose for them.

Which is why he would celebrate this and laugh:

But doesn’t like the Christian messages posted. His concern about offense only goes one way

I get where he's coming from but he's taking it to an extreme. He doesn't think the state should promote a religion. I thin we can all agree that is unconstitutional and generally a bad idea. The problem is he's willing to trample individual rights to achieve his goal. I would be right there with him had the university painted the rock or placed that cross on the mound. That was individual students in both cases that did those things. The problem is he's targeting only Christianity. If there was a Muslim Crescent painted on the rock he'd never said a word.

LOL I'm quite aware few agree with me. Then the ole "liberaltarian" label. Cute. You do realize liberatians believe in freedom as long as it doesn't infringe on others. That's it. As for Sex Week...is it pushing a religious agenda or possibly educating sexually active students about safe sex and preventing STDs and pregancy? I dont know enough about the week to have an opinion. IF there was a muslim symbol on the mound or on the rock I would have THE SAME OPNION THAT ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE.

So I can't go to a public university as a Christian and express my ideals as other non-Christians do? It's ok for others to express things I disagree with but I'm to keep my mouth shut or go elsewhere? Interesting.

I guess its your definition of "political views." Your definition may be different than mine. Teaching the realities of Manifest Destiny for example you may find political where I see it just as the untold truth.

I have no problems with teaching about the dirty underbelly of history. I think people should know that our country has been and still is flawed in many ways. I don't think that people today should be blamed for and have to pay for the sins of our ancestors. We can learn from their flaws and mistakes and work to better ourselves without feeling guilt or shame for things we had no control over. I am not a racist, nor did I commit large scale murder against the indigenous people of the north American continent. I will do my best not to in the future as well.

I stand behind my posts as being very straightforward you just like to twist them to feel persecuted.
Lol. “Feel persecuted.” That’s hilarious. I don’t care about soccer. When people post about soccer, I just pass it by and say nothing. Every time there’s anything Christian mentioned, there’s Newt sure to comment.

You know why? Because you care. Quit pretending

You're mixing up the topics. You (and everyone else) can express what you want. There are plenty of Christian groups/clubs on university campuses. This started with Newt saying he didn't think the cross or any other symbol should be displayed on the UT athletic field. No one is out to get you because you're a Christian.

Well you need to define infringing on others. What way is painting the rock with a religous symbol infringing on others? Sex week, BLM, LGBTQ are all ideologies. You seem to only want to suppress ones you disagree with. That is fascism.

And, I really doubt you are a true libertarian, I'm sorry. Public expression on things like the rock or on the pitchers mound at UT is not infringing on others rights. Sorry.

Here's a question for those of you who are so threatened by what your kids might be taught or exposed to at school.

My daughter (senior in high school) has a teacher (of math) who has brought up religion a few times this year. My daughter's standard response is to say that she doesn't consider herself to be religious. So this teacher brings my daughter a little knitted cross. She told my daughter that she (the teacher) believes that she will go to heaven when she dies and wants to see my daughter there.

Do you have a problem with this?

I'm not mixing topics. It's absolutely as clear as can be. It's all ideology. You either believe in free expression or you don't. The university didn't place that Cross there, the players did. Are you saying the players just need to STFU?

If anything I just get sick of the one-sided religious injection on here, I admit that. Other than that I just enjoy debating. Its slow at work today.

I absolutely have a problem with this. That is wrong.

I agree with that to a point but this is now a world where politics has been injected into everything. To demand that disappear is a fool's errand.

Free expression is fine. Wear a cross necklace. Get a tattoo with the star of David. All newt said (and others have tried to reiterate) is that none of them belong on the field.

I absolutely have a problem with this. That is wrong.
So all I'm saying is that the sentiment you feel in making that statement is the same sentiment Newt (and others) feel in saying a religious symbol shouldn't be displayed on a public university athletic field.

Do you not see the distinction between a teacher, a paid government employee advancing an ideology as opposed to a student?
