Most all significant programs run a deficit. Florida, LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, and the list goes on and on are within one or two million of us, some more and some less.

That's true but how many are paying multiple coaches still from buyouts and "change of direction" decisions?

Basketball is different than football...one guy can make a HUGE impact.

You saying you don't see anyone being coached up is just as ludicrous a statement...if you haven't seen improvement from McRae, Richardson and Stokes then either you're blind or need a bigger tv.

My point being is that if next UT doesn't turn it around, the same people will pound their chest about how they were right about Martin and how we should have fired him after his second season. I'm saying it doesn't matter what happens in Year 3, Martin still deserved the chance to coach Year 3.

I agree except I think he will be on the hot seat if he misses the tourney. Since we did well in year one and signed Hubbs, no way he doesn't deserve year 3.

And hire who? Cuonzo style is what this team needs to differentiate itself from the elite schools in basketball. Bruce did it with his style then it really started to take off when he got his talent in place. Let Cuonzo get his guys in (Hubbs.) Then see what the team looks like. Next year should be the optimal "Cuonzo Martin" team. If he struggles next year, there will be a change and you can count on it.

Every coach deserves three yrs unless something absolutely devastating happens......that said, I can understand people that believe it was a horrible hire wanting him fired in year one or two.

You think that's warranted, honestly? It's the world we live in, I get it, everything is right here right now...however, don't you think it's a bit soon to make a determination like that?

I could understand if say he went 10-20 last year, beat nobody any good, and had us in the bottom of the SEC. Then today has us 9-14 hanging in the bottom again, I'd get that.

However, we went 18-13 and finished 2nd in the SEC, and at this point are 13-10 and tied for 8th in the SEC. I'm no Nostradamus, nor am I predicting this but...let's say Tennessee goes 5-2 down the stretch and wins 2 at the SECT, and sneaks into the dance.

Was it still a terrible hire and Martin is deserving of being fired? Like I said, not saying that's how the season plays out, but isn't that why people should wait a little bit? If we finish 15-15 I get the frustration and atleast there's an educated argument people can make. However, at this point I don't think one can honestly make a rational argument that Martin was a horrible hire and deserves to be fired.

Only the truly clueless and someone that has absolutely zero knowledge of how an AD works would do that. There's a reason the majority of those idiots make less than probably $40K per year. Because they don't have a clue.

This thread along with the "goodbye cuonzo" thread are two of the most hilarious threads in the entire history of Volnation.
