Cuonzo Martin must be fired asap...

Brent Hubbs talked about it recently on VQ, if you have a membership go check it out. If you really think that Zo was our first call you're wrong, it's that simple.

We tried to go after bigger fish, just like with this years football search...but we were turned down multiple times.

I don't think cuonzo was our first call. I also don't think there is any fact to salaries offered. There may be speculation to who offers were made but nothing else.

Honest question...what hire has Tennessee basketball ever made that made the CBB world go WOW, what a great hire?

Pearl turned out to be a great hire, but that definitely wasn't the vibe when he was hired...Hamilton hired a D2 and mid major coach and got lucky.

So why now are you all of a sudden expecting Tennessee to go and hire a top 10 coach?

Who was the last coach Tennessee hired with zero NCAA tourney experience?

You're right in that you likely won't find it in print, as fact who was offered. However, just like with this football search (Charlie strong) things get leaked.

You're answering a question with a question, how about an answer?

You wanna compare us to Kentucky, then put the bar at just NCAA experience as a requirement. You talk like we should bring in a top 10 coach, I'm asking when have we EVER done that with this program?

Please quit stalking me you personal attacking flaming troller. I have no problem discussing basketball in a spirited manner with posters that believe cuonzo is the answer. But you have proven no value in that area. Please stop quoting me and demeaning my family.

Keep believing in cuonzo. You can follow him at a community college in the near future.

You got a crystal ball or something? I mean I can respect anyone who predicts anything as long as they are reasonable about it and AS LONG AS THEY UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE ALWAYS TWO SIDES.

But I don't like people like you who act like their argument is undeniable fact and that anyone who might disagree is full of **** and not credible. And it's even worse when people like that are pessimists rather than optimists. You act like it's a crime to be optimistic and believe in Cuonzo. THAT'S what I can't stand.

Do you really believe in Martin? Does this clown give you ANY reason at all to make you believe he will right this ship? He is Derek Dooley-esque. Why do our fans keep making excuses for failure and mediocrity? Sickening.

If we lose at SC today, Martin better be sitting in a broiling pan!!

Of course cuonzo could go on to become Coach K and be a HOF'er. But he is a long way from being competent at this point. He is regressing and the bright spots are turning dim in a hurry. UT basketball was nationally relevant. Losing sucks and the bad losses continue to outweigh the positives.

I'm looking for reasons to believe cuonzo is getting better - new staff, working with systems, getting pissed about losing and blowing up, etc. All I see is people selling cuonzo because he's a nice guy. That's not cutting it.

I get attacked for saying we suck. And that's fine. I have thick enough skin. I have no problem discussing the goods and bad of the team and program. I'm open for a good reason why the future of UT basketball is bright - this is the low point looking forward.

Yeah I forgot how our basketball program is so similar to Kentucky's.

And never will be with cuonzo.

For a third time: look at the comparison to Coach K. You don't know for certain if he will or not. Good god.

You think we got 'snubbed' last year in the tourney selection. I'll pass.

You think UT could've gotten Izzo. I'll pass.

Underrated series of posts IMO.

Yes, I do. He represents what is good about Tennessee (despite not meeting the unrealistic expectations of people like you) by keeping his head up, going to work every day to get better, and doing it in a way to make one proud of him. Let the man work, support him while he's here, and let the man getting paid to make the hiring/firing decisions do his job. You don't know what may or may not happen in the next couple years with Martin at the helm. Quit acting like you're this all-knowing genius when you obviously haven't coached or played or understand what could possibly be a great thing for the Vols.

How many truly bad losses does this team have? Georgia, Arkansas (which can be argued due to the destroying of Florida after). That's really the only BAD losses they have, except the fan perspective that every loss is bad. They've looked bad in some of the losses, but the losses themselves aren't all that bad.

Martin had won me over last year, although we flamed out in the NIT like little bi t ch ez. This team has gotten worse. Yeah yeah, Maymons injury blah blah. Hes had ample time to make adjustments, but we still see the same ol bumbling clowns on the court. Nothing ever changes with this team. Martin will come up with another lame excuse we lose. Dont you see a pattern by now?

Guys I know we suck. We really really suck. I'm not even sure we totally disagree on Coach Martin.

Many things have happened this year that would indicate Cuonzo Martin is a bad basketball coach. Does he even draw up plays during timeouts and at the end of games? Because the offense never looks any better. We've regressed, not improved, over the course of this season, and things that were problems early on in the season have not been fixed in the slightest. And those things have continued to cost us games.

If I had to make a prediction right now, gun to my head, I'd say he sucks and isn't the answer. But as disappointing as this year was, he took a really ****ty roster last year and nearly made the tournament. Yes, I know, he still DIDN'T make the tournament, but that team should have been below .500, and they finished 2nd in the SEC. That's impressive, regardless of our tournament status.

I've done plenty of *****ing and moaning myself, and quite frankly VolWarrior, I'm as sick of the excuses as you are. You can make excuses all you want, but at the end of the day all it means is that you aren't winning.

The only beef I have with either of you is that you both act as though it's all over with Coach Martin and there is no chance whatsoever that he'll succeed. And all I'm trying to say is that the jury is still out; there's no way to be sure as of yet. Simple as that. VolWarrior, it'd be stupid for a multitude of reasons to just fire him today. And IE 95, your opinion isn't fact. I just wish you'd give a little more acknowledgement to the other side of this.

Can Martin turn this thing around next year?? Maybe he can and will. I sure hope so. But, Ive had it with this teams excuses and bumbling ways.

All good, friend. Thanks for the kind words! :hi:

At the end of the day I suppose we both just want what's best for our Vols! :)

A poser? lol For what, having some blind faith for once? lol Hes going to be retained. So, I mind as well TRY to have some hope. But, no, I stongly believe he is not the right guy for the job. I want him fired. Havent changed my stance at all. Just saying I hope to god he can right this ship since we will be stuck with him. Im not a fan of Martins...at all.

Haha! So when you lose your best player you just "make adjustments" and you continue to win every game. Such and easy game I suppose.

Losing sucks and the bad losses continue to outweigh the positives.

Here's where I'm lost in this discussion. What bad losses do we have? You can argue the Georgia game at home was a bad loss, but that's really it, and we caught them in a hot streak of wins, and it also took a flurry of Caldwell-Pope contested three's for us to lose that game.

Outside of that, we have no other bad losses, as termed by the NCAA, unless I'm forgetting one.

You're not

There really is not argument, he deserves to coach the players he brought in next season and get a small reset after losing Maymon this year. No I don't think that he should be totally free of blame because just not having Maymon should not cause our team to look like this.

BUT I do think there is a BIG chance for us to be in the top 25 all season next year and make a run to the sweet 16 in the tourney...that could really start some positive momentum for the Martin era. He deserves that chance.

I will also say tho, if next year he takes the team he has and just gets us barely into the tourney (21-11ish) type record and loses in the first round. He should be gone.

He needs a 25-8 type season with a win or two in the tourney with the squad he's going to have.
