7-5 in the SEC is barely above Vandy and KY. He went 4-7 when he got fired. I guess folks at Ole Miss have higher standards than that, even though it it's hard to recruit there.

I don't want to be the next Ole Miss.

Ole Miss is currently 5-3 with 2 wins in the SEC. We would need to improve to be Ole Miss.

Cut was fired from Ole Miss for not firing staff members. If he had, he would not have been let go.

I don't buy it. Cut is up there in age, and he has a sweet deal at Duke. No expectations and once in a blue moon he gets them to a bowl. Why would he come to this mess right now?

I think what we need to ask ourselves when considering Cut is does Tennessee need a "Tennessee man" to be successful. In a lot ways I think Tennessee mirrors Michgans program. Michgan needed a "Michgan man" to turn their progam around. I hope Tennessee is not the type of program that is stuck in the past but if we are that type of program, Cut is our guy.

Why are so many of our fans stuck on the theory we have to get TN tie guys to coach here if we are to be successful?

Saban did not attend Alabama
Miles did not attend LSU
Richt did not attend GA
Muschamp did not attend Florida
Spurrier did not attend USCe
Mullen did not attend Miss St

Neyland did not attend UT

Tennessee history I guess.

While it has been common for non Tennessee guys to coach here they usually have started out as assnts. Since the General our HC's have had some Tennessee conection. Except Kiffen...and that didnt turn out too well.

I would take the results of Kiffin anyday over what Dooley has done in 3 years.

And once again we hired someone without any Tennessee conection.

Not argueing but just trying to explain why alot of people think we need a HC with Tennessee blood. While I dont think a HC has to have had a conection to be sucessful here...it sure wouldn't bother me if they did.

Alabama fought that reasoning for years then went out and got Saban.

He went 44-29 at the Vanderbilt of the West.
He had one bad season and they fired him. None of the coaches they've had sense have done as well.

Freeze might eventually though

I like Cutt, just hard to see how it would unite the fanbase and at this point this is what we need.

Cut was a disciplinarian. Just ask Ainge. Like previous poster said, I think he would get the right DC in, and he needs a good recruiter or 2 on his staff for sure. BTW, about a year ago Chris Lowe said that had Cut stayed on board the last time, we may have gotten Terrelle Pryor.

I talked to a guy who was a former 5 star linebacker a few years ago, back when Cut was at Ole Miss. He said Cut, Fulmer, D. Dooley, and others were recruiting him hard. Due to his dad's bad hearlth (liver transplant) he made Ole Miss and LSU his priority programs in order to remain close to home.

When he made the decision to go to LSU, he said within 3 hours Cut was at his doorstep... not only asking him to reconsider and go to Ole Miss, but also asking him how his staff might have recruited better so as to have gotten him to play for Ole Miss. He says that Cut's attitude and behavior almost made him decide to switch to Ole Miss, but he stayed with LSU because a fellow H.S. player had already committed there. He has a great admiration for Cut to this day.

He said Fulmer and his staff did a great job of recruiting, but he wanted to stay closer to home due to his dad's bad health. If not for his dad's health... he said he would likely have been a VOL.

He said he did not like Dooley because of his whining. When he told Dooley that he was considering playing for only LSU or Ole Miss, he said Dooley began complaining about coaches and recruiters from those programs, among others. He said he had no respect for Dooley back then, and nothing has changed because Dooley still whines.

That being said... I would have no problem, IF Dooley is fired, with Cut coming to UT... that is, if he would bring in a decent DC and other needed staff.

However, whoever the coach is... Go Vols!

Phil was great, but cut made him much better, that being sad I don't feel he is better than Dooley, DD is a great coach up and comming I just hope hart sees it.
