Da Reds thread

putting a scrub triple a pitcher on the mound with a above 5 era. lucky again that billy was able to bail us out. i just don't get price, if you didn't want to start one of your 5 on 4 days rest why did they pitch lecure the night before. for christ sakes he could have given us atleast five innings.

Very fortunate to come back and win that game last night. First time all year they came behind from more than 2 runs down. If he had not taken Holmberg out early enough it would have been over. Stupid move to bring him up. Guy can't break a window pane with his fast ball and no other real out pitch. They have known that since they acquired him. Should have done nothing but use the existing underworked pen out of that 13 pitcher staff - which was proved by how they shut them down after he pulled Holmberg. Thank goodness Bruce is starting to hit. Add him to the new big three - Billy, Todd, and Devin - and some occasional help from BP; should give them some offense for the balance of the season.

also with votto on the pine probably for the rest of the season.

For the worst team in sports, the Cubs talk a lot

Trying to show how tough they are. Trying to pull a Pirates scene from last season. If Broxton does his job in the 8th it would have been a 5 game sweep by a Reds team that is firing on about 5 of 8 cylinders now.

BP out 6-8 weeks with torn thumb ligaments. Bad deal all around. Votto out until whenever. Hamilton tweaked his hammy but should be OK, which is why he rested today. Bailey tweaked his knee - who knows with him. Meanwhile Price keeps his 13 pitchers and brings up Negron to replace BP to go with Tucker Barnhart as the third catcher since Pena is playing first a lot. The next first baseman will be Ludwick, who is working out to be an option there. Looks to me like they are waiting on Hannahan to be ready before they send one of those pitchers down to make room. So for there to be any chance to get to the playoffs this season Hamilton, Frazier, Mesaraco and Bruce better stay in high gear the rest of the way.

They got lucky, but I agree 100%. 13 pitchers already there - and they bring up a scrub from the farm. Made zero sense.

Brew crew coming back to the pack as expected, but idk if there will be a team healthy enough to pass them. Cards can't score, and the reds are falling left and right. Cinci has the best and most healthy arms tho.

Good post - this has been one strange season so far. Never seen so many injuries around MLB, but especially with our guys and the Cards.

Prayers go out for Jean Segura of the Brew Crew along with his family. Terrible news with the passing of his 9 month old son in the DR. Nothing definitive on it yet - just that he had been ill and Jean got a phone call yesterday morning that he was doing better. Jean's mom was with him and gave him the news after the game.

BTW - yesterday's comeback win while playing with a bunch of bench guys and scraping along with the pen, well, it was the best win of the season. To come back from 5-1 and beat a quality team like the Rats, especially after having two outs and nobody on in the 8th, was really special. They are so thin on that roster I doubt they can keep it together without some help, but they will not roll over.

its a shame the reds need one good right handed hitter to really give us a good chance and the crappy management won't go get it.

I keep hoping there are legs to the David Price for Votto swap rumor going around, but nothing's happened. That would free Walt's hands to make some deals and move a starter like Bailey, Simon, or Leake with some filler for at least one real bat. Still carrying 13 pitchers - insane. 3 of the 12 regular players are farm call-ups, as are two of the best relievers. That leaves only 5 regular starting position players and 4 subs/bench guys essentially playing every day. Half of that group is hitting .250 or less. Bruce has become a strike out machine. I would be fine with him being part of a trade if they got something of value in return.

i give up on this year. jock is happy with a winning season and missing the playoffs.

Watching tonight - Hamilton hit and solo HR. Schumaker with a couple of hits. Negron PH HR. That's the offense. Impressive. Trot some more pitchers out there, Walt. What a bum year and management.

What has happened to the fielding on this team? ??

It's one thing to have all your bats missing but no one can field routine balls anymore.

Heisey is a waste of uniform.

have to agree heisey is pathetic. jock won't do a fire sale. i really think he just got lucky in st.louis. either that or he is just getting old and just not caring about killing the team for the next decade. price also should be fired after the season, he doesn't deserve another year.

I wanted it to work well with Price. But a guy in Cincy that follows it pretty close told me last night that Jay Bell is making out the line-up card. Bench coaches do that action, but the manager makes the final call. Apparently not with our guys. They talk about who they want on the field each day, but Jay usually makes the decision because Price had limited experience with the position player side. If that is the case Price has no hope at all. How could you lay your future as a manager in the hands of a bench coach? Stupid. But it explains what has happened with the changing, stupid line up cards each game. Ludwick hitting a quarter with zip HRs and RBIs of late hitting clean up. What? Add in Price wanting to go with 13 pitchers for an extended period and Walt snoozing through another trading deadline. They keep talking Marlon Byrd from the Phillies for LF - then nothing happens and they keep losing everything they gained. Eff it.

have to agree price should be fired and the fire sale should begin. need to bring in a good GM to pick the next manager and jock should retire. the game has well passed him by.

How does it happen like that? Or was he that way with the Cards to some extent? They fired him, so I guess that's what it is.

I want to go on a real rant so bad about the absolute garbage I have seen out of the supposed stars, manager, coaches, owners and GM in recent years. So close to having it assembled for a good long run, yet so far away between the ears. The very second they made the contract with Votto I said it would not end well. If the Junior thing had not just been lived through it could be passed off as an honest mistake. Votto had one great year, one near great year, two good years - and now he is worth a quarter of a billion dollars over 10 years?! Knowing BP wanted his, Bruce had gotten way more than he was worth, and the pitchers would be lining up next. What a messed up bunch that front office is. Votto was a good looking player. But you need to go through B to get to C. Ask Miggy Cabrera and Albert Pujols. Each took the second step before the big payday. Both with large market clubs. Guess what Cincy isn't? Guess who did not take the second step before getting the mega contract? Guess who gets stuck again? All for playing the 2016 renegotiated TV rights card thinking they were going to be able to sell him as the face of the Reds for 8-10 years. Hope they have insurance on that because it appears Votto has a limited future on that gimpy leg. But our guys obviously never considered that could happen. Playing futures like they are in the commodities market. How them pork bellies holding up now, goobers?

Wish I could say I felt better.

Notice the all knowing, Sabermetric, savants of baseball trolls have sauntered off to greener pastures. Imagine that.

well when you have fans from other teams especially people who have no understanding on how baseball works this will happen. you see it with the vols to. you have fans thinking we are going to go 9-3 or 8-4 this year and that would be a miracle. baseball is just easier to predict. i basically said price wouldn't work out, he was hired by baker would have rather had hatcher as skipper. jock has buried this team for a decade now and what i can't figure out is why bobby continues to listen to him. i really wish mark cuban would buy the reds and maybe we could get good baseball people in the front office. at the very least we wouldn't have to worry about money. like i said at the beginning of the year, when you are a reds fan there is always next year. thats really all you have with the idiots running the show. they had there chances now its back to the middle of the pack for a long time.
