Da Reds thread

For some more fun in honor of the D-backs:

Paul Goldschmidt (age 26) signed a 5 year extension with a team option in the off season for $32 M.

2012: .286/.359/.490 with 147 Hits, 20 HRs, 82 RBIs, 82 Runs
2013: .302/.401/.551 with 182 Hits, 36 HRs, 125 RBIs, 103 Runs.
2014: .309/.369/.545 with 68 Hits, 10 HRs, 37 RBIs, 40 Runs

These are very Vottoish from 2008-2011 at very similar ages. The problem is Votto's are trending down since the injury while PG has stayed at the high level so far. Will see how it goes, but, I would rather have the $6 M guy versus the $20 M guy just about 100% of the time. That leaves $14 M per year to go get some more help.

These line-ups are becoming hilarious! Tonight they sit Pena, presumably because he will catch Cueto tomorrow. You would think they would continue to play him at first since he is the most consistent hitter with 2 of their 3 hits last night. Nah. Instead I give you Roger Bernadina - he of the .146 average and 7 hits on the season to play first base for possibly the first time in his career! You cannot make this stuff up. Add in they are playing Santiago, he of the .194 average and 6 hits on the season instead of Cozart - who turned it around offensively during May.

Meanwhile Donald Lutz continues to sit the bench after they brought him up to replace Soto. He starts one game and gets two hits and never plays again. Yet, get this, he plays first base as well as LF and hits left handed while they go against Arroyo, a right hander. They would rather play Bernadino at first. LOL!!!!

They carry 12 pitchers and have no offense. There will be no stunning changes this season other than only winning 60-70 games if this trend continues. They had a really good young defensive catcher with a bright future in Tucker Barnhart up, and they sent him back down. If they keep him, they can let Pena play first base 100% of the time until/if Votto returns. Cueto will just need to go back to Meso for his catcher. Try Lutz in LF along with Ludwick. Heisey and Schu fill out the OF bench guys with Santiago for the IF. Bernadino goes back to Louisville.

What does it say for your first base defense when a bench outfielder can play the position better than your star? He admitted he never played the position from A ball to the bigs. He also went off on Bronson offensively like he always had in the past. So Price made a good call after all. Meso made him look like a genius with a GS and solo shot. So naturally Meso sits tonight. Hits 2 homers with 5 RBIs and sits the next game. lol. Heck - stick him at first like Pena and Bernadina and Lutz and Frazier. All of them have played the position with Votto out - add another. Instead it's Lutz' turn.

time to face it toothpick is better than price. jocketty once again drops the ball. need a new owner and GM. till then we are going to be a pretty bad team. all of it is on jocketty, wonder if he still works for the cards.lol

Lol Because he didn't run his catcher out there for a 10th straight game? Who has been on the DL twice?

no because of record and excuses. for christ sakes we are 2 months into the season and the rookie is still acting like it is spring training. it was a huge mistake hiring him.

shouldn't be allowed to complain about the manager if the one before was dusty baker.

thats a good point, but right now i would take toothpick back over price. he is and looks and acts like a rookie coach. he's not doing much right.

Trade Meso... Too productive

also mesoraco and pena earn about a 50th less than votto. i would give votto up for 2 more productive players like these. look at our record since votto has been on the bench, pretty much says it all. votto is a great player just not a leader and not worth the crazy amount of money he is getting.

nice job price, 2 outs in the ninth and you let cozart hit. even welch and the cowboy:banghead2: couldn't figure it out. price is effing horrible that is all that needs to be said. he actually makes me want toothpick back. what the hell is wrong with the reds front office.:banghead2::censored:

champy, I am worried about you. Can't take this mess of a team seriously.

They are basically playing .500 ball without Votto and sub .500 with Votto. So if you take the $20 M and buy two good players - just how is it that you lose in that deal? Not that it really matters - they can't move him without subsidizing the deal anyway. Even DB told reporters the other day they basically have nothing much ready to bring up from the farm that can hit. Which is what the issue has been all season, that and it being Karaoke Night for managers when Price is making his decisions at times.

No hits past the 4th yesterday. No hits past the third today. At home. Yesterday was against a mediocre pitcher. After over a third of the season gone. Ain't happenin'. Maybe the Sabermetrics guys' hero will change all that when he comes back. Playoffs here we come. lol.

haha, hope the ss they drafted from stanford is ready to play right away.lol

Him or the one they drafted in Round 12 out of S. Gwinnett HS down in GA. Relative of BP's. Plays SS and third. About 6" 3" and 190 lbs. Auburn commit. Will see if they can change his mind about going to the Barn.

Billy has been awesome on D. His range and arm are exceptional and he is just getting started in CF. Even Homer has pitched well for 2 games in a row. Hope they are ready in the pen for his next one he pitches. Two in a row is about his limit.

I could honestly see Votto being the best player in the NL. And Chapman closing, the Reds could be one of the top teams in the league for the next 5 years

Thinking about it though, you could get a ton of mediocre players for trading your two best players though.. all the money you'll save!!!!!

votto is not the best player in the NL. chapman we just don't have the money for after the other idiot deals. reds are an average to below average team right now in the NL.

Don't you love it when a Braves troll makes idiotic posts on a Reds thread? How many of them would trade Freeman for Votto straight up? lol.

How does a guy that supposedly only had a meniscus tear that would take 60 days to heal in 2012 end up with the quad atrophying above the same knee two years later? After which the guy totally changes his swing and approach to counterpuncher seeking walks and being solely focused on OBP. Somebody knows the truth in the group of Bob/Walt, the docs, and Joey. This whole thing smells to me. That contract without the pre-injury run production kills the future of this club. Any rational baseball fan would know that is true no matter the club. Especially when they are a sub .500 club this far into the season.

Now troll, please explain how they are going to keep Chappy after the Bailey contract with Cueto and Latos rolling up for their share in 2015. Keep in mind they already have the highest payroll in NL Central in one of the smallest markets in MLB. You trade when there is perceived value and leverage to make the deal - not when you have no leverage or perceived value.

Trade Cueto and Latos so you can keep Chappy. Issue solved

was at the game last night. was nice to see the reds play some better. cueto was just awesome with 12k's. hopefully bruce can build on what he did. votto did have a 2 run double, but in his other 3 at bats he didn't get the ball past the pitcher.

That was a nice game all around. Looks like Bruce is slowly coming out of it. I think Votto is what he is. I hope he will just keep hitting liners for singles and doubles and forget the power. But hit the ball and quit thinking a walk is a win for him. Leave the big gun stuff up to Bruce and Frazier.

Homer did a better job of managing his brain last night - it was LeCure's turn to blow it. At least they won. Billy and Cozart getting it done. Strange world.
