Da Reds thread

Just glad we didn't give up a guy like Senzel, India, Greene, or Trammell. If we can somehow snag AJ Pollock I will build the statue of Dick Williams in front of GABP.

I will join in with you. lol. I am excited for the first time in awhile. They still have several tradable guys left, so they may not be done. With Kemp, Puig and Scooter being in their final year - perfect transition to the young guns being brought up in 2020 and 2021 to go with Senzel this season. Getting Alex Wood was like icing on the cake. Now they will have a real rotation. I'm hoping Puig adapts well to the historically proven pro-Cuban/latin Cincy team vibe because he's just 28 and could catch fire at GABP. If he adapts well I would try to sign him on a longer deal.

I'm going to love watching Puig bomb 40 homers in Great American next year.

So having a couple of days to think about the trade here is my question. Puig should be the every day starter at RF. Do we flip Winker to LF (where he has 31 starts) and keep Kemp on the bench or as trade bait or do we start Kemp there? I would rather keep Winker in the starting line up since he the younger guy and was rounding into form before the injury. Now that leaves us with the biggest question mark in the outfield with CF. Does the coaching staff have enough confidence that Schebler can handle being the every day center fielder or do we still try and make a trade for one or dip into free agency?

Than the next question is the starting rotation:

1. Castillo
2. Wood
3. DeScalafani
4. Roark
5. Mahle

Do we make a play for Bauer or Kluber or try and sign Dallas Keuchel?

JMO - I think they hold onto Winker. He needs to prove his shoulder's good to go and he has the best upside as a hitter before he could be a trade chip anyway. I just don't see him in RF with that mediocre arm and coverage skills. Like you I see him in LF with Kemp doing some L/R hand bat platooning to ease him back into playing everyday. I also think Kemp will back up Votto some to keep him fresh. Puig would be the RF. LAD tried him in CF and it failed. If you don't see a trade for a proven CF, I think we may see Senzel there and they may keep Schebler until closer to the trade deadline. Senzel will probably not be brought up until May due to his arbitration clock starting. If they do deal for a CF, I would expect Scooter and Scheb to be moved. They could be moved for a top of the rotation SP or for an elite catcher. That hands Senzel 2B as you state. Blandino can play it until he can be brought up. They are really looking hard at Grandal and are still in for Realmuto. There is not doubt they are dangling Tucker out there in package deals. So the right deal might bring Kluber. Your rotation looks accurate to me for now with hopes of them pulling one of those other top guys. Kemp may be a mid-season trade for somebody looking for proven bat.

Exciting times - finally.

Not trying to brag but we're planning our first trip to see the Reds at GABP this year. We're going to see the Bats in Louisville on 8/16 and then head up to Cincy to see the Cards on the 17th and the 18th. I'm not sure we'll see it but I'm hoping to see Greene, India, and Trammell in Triple AAA by that time.

I don’t think anyone would confuse trying to see the reds with bragging

Have a great trip. They've really improved GABP. Still surprises me how easy it is to park and get into it. Haven't been for a few years, but am thinking of doing the same in late spring now that we have a team worth watching. It would surprise me if Trammell isn't at Louisville by when you go and there's a shot at India. Greene's coming off that arm problem/rehab so I'm expecting them to bring him along a bit slower.

Inked all the arbitration guys except Wood. It looks like that one will work out fine as well. Really glad that Casali was signed. He is really good combined with Tucker. Hope they can sign one more quality SP and then make a decision on CF.

He'll definitely be traded even if this deal falls through

That's okay with me honestly. Gray would be a nice addition to the rotation but adding him won't make or or break us IMO. I'm happy with our projected rotation as is and we can complete the deal we can also try and sign Dallas Keuchel.

Reuniting Johnson with Gray is exciting stuff. He knows what he can do to turn Gray around on a longer deal.

Time to make some noise once they figure CF out.

Did not realize until last night that Casali was Gray's catcher at Vandy. Looks like it really is a Johnson-Gray-Casali reunion. That's got to help Gray a bunch. His comments on the Reds site about the Reds being his deceased father's favorite team add in. He passed when Sonny was 14 - wore a Reds ball cap around all of his life. This was supposed to happen. Some NYY fans who know the game said the coaching staff was partially responsible for his downturn last season by making him throw more cutters than 4 seamers. He's maintained his 93+ mph 4 seamer for 4 seasons in a row, so it really did not make sense to change the mix heavily to the cutter. He pitched very well on the road, but it all fell apart at home. Weird situation, just glad it worked out for the good guys. I'm confident that Johnson will get him back on track.

May not be done dealing. In serious talks for Realmuto if they can get an extension. Tucker and India may be the trade pieces at this point.
