Da Reds thread

JMO as we hit the halfway point this evening - I see a nice core of players on this roster. Playoff quality guys that like to win and will battle. Looks like there may be a window of opportunity developing to do something. The key will be for the FO to make a few moves. Would love to see JV in a WS before he is done.

They are heading into the make or break stretch for this season. Need to win the series against the Cubs, Royals and at least breakeven with the Brew Crew. I am surprised the later have sustained winning for this long, so hopefully they slow down a bit in the second half. Even if our guys don't make it they will have established a strong foundation for 2022.

Look at what we now know. Keepers in Wink, JV, India, Stephenson/Barnhart, and hopefully Nick-C. Moose and Senzel coming back soon to see what they can do. Suarez on a bit of an uptick. Naquin as a solid #4 OF'er. Wild card of Lopez to keep an eye on. Some trade bait to move along with getting an everyday SS on the field. Lodolo and Greene working their way up for next season as SP's. If there was ever a time to make deals to hit the window of the next few years at the right time - it would be now through the offseason.

Dodged a bullet with Bauer. ESPN reporting him in a mess from sexually assaulting a woman.

Not saying he's innocent but A LOT of shady facts about this "claim", So he supposedly sexually assulted her then she decided to go see him again? Also if he has texts showing she wanted it rough and wanted chocked out her claims are sketchy. I think we need to see a pic of this girl..lol

Going to be interesting to see what happens after the All-Star break with this team. Are we still in position for a long shot playoff spot? Do we deal guys like Mahle, Naquain, Gray and others? What about Nick? Will he stick around after the season or do you think he wants out?

Not a Reds fan (Indians), but I'll be at the games Saturday and Sunday with my two friends. One is die-hard Cubs, the other die-hard Reds. I'll be in red though, mainly for my boys Castellanos and Winker who have drug me to a winning record in fantasy.

In a normal world, Nick doesn't want to leave and Bob writes the check to keep him. There are enough non-core guys to move to create the contract room plus they could go back up to $140 M like last year, which adds another $15-20 M of room in and of itself. As long as Bob improves the team enough I believe Nick will stay. But it is MLB and Bob does control the team. There's a lot that can happen to the playoff quality teams between now and the end of September. I doubt the Brewers will continue their pace and somebody in the west will lose momentum as well. If our guys fall back, all three of the guys you list plus others could be dealt including Suarez.

Have fun and bring a broom just in case. The first win is in the books.

But the details indicate me he is a freak that I'm glad the org did not spend a lot of money on for risk reasons such as these. It looks like it happened pretty much as described, just whether it was consensual or not. So if she said she wanted beat up during rough sex (which was basically in her texts to him), it was OK for him to beat her up? Nah. Simple answer is just say "no" and find a different woman - you have too much at risk along with your value to the team to jeopardize it.

Bauer placed on leave amid sexual assault claims

Boy, y’all are hanging around, and just in time. Now I know it’s one game at a time, but man, y’all are coming up with 7 games with the Brewers. What an opportunity for the fans and the team, to be excited right now. As a cards fan, I know that the reds and cards can still make a run. The most interesting thing is right now is, keeping an eye on y’all’s team. I haven’t seen y’all this excited in a while, and y’all deserve it. They are playing with some passion, heart, and grit and most of all y’all are packing the stands. Keep it up.

Thanks for the encouragement. 40+ K there last night. Hope Bob C realizes the window is opening to get something done for the long term success of the org. Which has been the problem in Cincy for far too long. Short booms followed by long busts. Which is why I have always admired the Cards org. That doesn't happen with your guys. They may be down for a season or two, but always surge back up with a good farm system and timely acquisitions/trades.

Probably time to recognize Bell is getting better as a manager as well.

That last Bryant pop out with Votto falling on his can as he made the catch had me both scared and laughing at the same time.

Now 2nd in the division, gotta take it one game/one series at a time.

^^^ This is always the key.

Every AB, every pitch, every defensive play, every substitution must have purpose. It's easy to spot teams that value them and those that don't. Our guys are currently. They need to sustain it and build it into their DNA. It's why the perineal playoff teams are who they are.

You’re welcome for the encouragement. Here is the deal now. Congratulations of 🧹 the Cubs. With the Brewers losing today, y’all stay within 7 games of them. Y’all’s coach is a lot better than ours and seems to be making good coaching decisions on things. Now, with the 7 games against the Brewers coming up, y’all can close the gap, As for the cards, we are struggling and can’t hit the ball. As for being down, I’ve never seen the struggling right now that I have in a long time. I just don’t know what can be fixed right now, and it looks like we’re losing more ground. Yea, I saw that catch, that was hilarious, but scary at the same time. Maybe, both teams will do something at the trade deadline and fix things. If y’all get some help, watch out, because y’all could make a run that I haven’t seen in a long time from y’all.

Your FO may pull a deal or two out this month to get you kick started. The Cards never stay down for long. Our guys have a brutal schedule this month. If they can get through it .500 or better it lightens up a bit the rest of the season. You are right, the key is to make a dent in the lead by beating the Brewers. Get it under 5 games and keep the pedal down. Somebody is going to fade in the NL west in the second half. That will open a WC spot. It's not how you start the season if you can at least stay around .500 at the break - it's how you finish.

Next season it looks like the union and owners are in agreement on going back to a 16 team playoff they used last season.

Suarez with a three run bomb on an off speed curve lower in the zone. His head stayed perfectly still and stayed behind the ball. That's the Suarez we remember. Really good sign.

You’re right, I think that the FO may make a deal or two to try to get us going. If you win tonight, and with the Brewers losing, you are six games back. Your FO must wheel and deal to get y’all some help now. That’s the way I feel about y’all’s chances. I feel like y’all can play with the Brewers. Don’t give up now, but y’all get it to six games tonight, and boom you’re stepping on them right now. I feel like someone in the west is going to fade, but I don’t know who at this point, but you’re right it opens up the door for a wildcard spot to come open.

Y’all did it. 6 games back. Oh man, that pressure on the Brewers is kind of thumping on them now. Yea, I like the 16 team playoffs. That makes it even better to watch the scoreboard, division, and the wildcard standings.

Need to get to the break 5 or less back. Get Moose, Senzel, Sims and Lorenzen back for the second half. Time to make a deal or two to get better. Still need Suarez to get on the right side of the Mendoza line.

Padres and Dodgers look solid to me, but who knows with the later with the Bauer thing. Giants are like the Brewers and playing over their heads IMO. Will see, but I'm think both of them may fade back to the pack.

Ugly loss. Don't know if the culprit was bad defense or bad relief pitching, but both are weak spots for this team and it cost them tonight
