Da Reds thread

MLBTR with an interesting read.

The Reds Could Be One Of The Deadline’s Most Interesting Teams

I'm sure we could give Bob some ideas on what to do. Starting with if he doesn't want to spend money to win - and then make even more money - he should sell the team and let somebody else do it.

Trade Geno and a couple wannabes. Pick up pitching help. Sign Castellanos to a nice deal. Having Wink and Nick at the corner OF spots with L/R back to back in the order should be a priority. Votto comes off the books in 2023. If the NL goes DH before then he gets that role by default anyway. So they still have India, Moose and Senzel available for 2B and 3B. This team is just a couple guys from being a potential playoff team if they get Lorenzen back and iron out the pen problems.

I think they gotta shop Nick C and look for a haul. I'm sure he's opting out on the heels of this career year. We need to stock up for the future. I'm looking for a package like what the Yankees got for trading two months of Aroldis Chapman

Its not always pretty but man Vlad battles in his starts. Just gave us 6 innings while only allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 6.

Reds just beat up on the Brewers winning 10-2. Everyone contributed up and down the lineup. India had 3 hit game, Votto looking like MVP-Votto again, and the bullpen threw 3 innings of no hit/no run baseball while striking out 6.

The bullpen is what's good to see. I didn't think they'd be worth a darn after Antone went down and to their credit, they've stepped up to the challenge. Very fun game tonight. Gained on both first place teams. This team is so much more entertaining to watch than last year's. How'd you like that bomb that Aquino blasted to left?

They really are much more fun to watch. Working in Gutierrez and Santillian has also been eye opening when you know they have Lodolo and Greene getting ready for their step up.

Castillio needs to get it together or he will be gone at some point.

Not opposed if they get the right deal. Just wonder if he wants to stay. If he does I would be making a deal since GABP fits him nicely both offensively and defensively.

I am to the point that pretty much the Reds should never give a big money long term deal to a 6 yr veteran. These deals never make sense financially and the Reds aren't a team that can afford to overpay. I've love to keep Nick C for the next two yrs but a long term deal will mean bigger money and more yrs. That's a risk they ought not take. This is an example of why MLB is not a fair sport. There are rules for the Reds, Indians and Royals and then there are rules for the NY, LA and Chicago teams

If they stay in the hunt then they'll have to keep Nick C and possibly accept the draft choice comp after the yr but I'm open to all offers.

As for Sonny Gray and most any other player, it all depends on the return. Are we talking Gleyber Torres here or is it Rookie Davis?

Well! Well! Well! The pressure of the central just tightened up even more.Thank y’all again.Y’all are playing some great baseball. I think the cards as bad as we’ve been, these two teams are right back in it. Nice to see the Cubs lose again.😂😂

Stressful game

Things are really falling into place for the Reds right now but we'll take it

They won by not getting a hit in the 10th; miscue on the basepaths; miscue in RF; gift strike 3 call to end it

Good post. Makes a lot of sense. Not in favor of any long term deal either. The Votto deal turned me against them along with most of the others that bombed with other clubs. Even what appeared to be a club friendly deal with Suarez appears to be a clunker now. I was thinking more of adding two years with an option for Nick to opt out only in the last year if he would take it. Lock him in for 3 by adding some bigger bucks with a total contract of 4 years after this one instead of 2 with opt outs each year. That takes him to age 34 and he can opt out at 33. If not and he wants to capitalize on the market, take the best trade you can before the deadline. He probably would not take it since some stupid owner will give the team away to sign him longer term, but it would be worth a shot.

If they can make decent deals, dumping the Suarez and Gray contracts creates room. Then push Bob to go back to the $140 M payroll since everything has opened up from COVID. In two more years, Votto's deal comes off the books. If they do that they open the window for adding good talent and a potentially longer run as a playoff level team. With Bob in charge - not counting on it tho...

I didn't stay with it after the 8th and wondered how they won. Thanks for the recap.

But let's use our bats today. Keep making that move upwards.

I agree that they definitely should negotiate with him but I doubt he'll accept a hometown friendly deal 'cause pretty much no one does. You're right, someone will back up the truck for him.

Our Reds have a really tough schedule between now and the trade deadline whereas the Brewers have an easy one. If we can stay in it till August then we're legit contenders this yr. If not, let's start stockpiling young talent to add to what we already have

100% agree. Heading into a really interesting stretch.

I will say that the Brewers' lineup is not playoff caliber so they may not be the team to beat in this division but let's just sit back and see how this plays out. The Reds weakness is their 'pen and I see reinforcements coming in Lorenzen, Antone and maybe a minor leaguer or two. We're also seeing improvement from Garrett, Hendrix and Brach. Obviously all those positive things won't happen but those are a lot of opportunities for improvement there.

Moose coming back would remove Farmer from the lineup and that could be big although it will weaken the defense by putting Suarez back at SS

Moustakas' foot don't feel too good once he started playing on it. Not good. I wouldn't count on him for a long time. He's going back to the doctor

Holding out hope that the pen is the one that showed up for the last two games. Another gem today. Wow - two 2-1 W's on the road against a quality team. Two sweeps on the road against good division opponents. Brings a big smile to my face.

6 straight; 13 of 16. Didn't think this team had it in them but you gotta give 'em credit. Let's not worry about the future. Let's enjoy the wave and ride it as far as it'll go

I’m dreading when Suarez goes back to short and replaces Farmer’s decent defensive ability. Also Moose has been a totally underwhelming free agent signing by far.

Well! I want to thank you guys again for the help. Only 2 games out and the cards are only 3 out. The pressure has to be mounting on the Cubs and Brewers. Y’all have really been playing some great baseball and I think your lineup has got some great hitters. Maybe I’m wrong, but it looks like your pitching has improved, and like I’ve said before if y’all and us can get some help by the trade deadline, then both teams can run with the Cubs and Brewers. Let the 4 teams battle it out. Once again, thanks for the help.
