Da Reds thread

Well! I want to thank you guys again for the help. Only 2 games out and the cards are only 3 out. The pressure has to be mounting on the Cubs and Brewers. Y’all have really been playing some great baseball and I think your lineup has got some great hitters. Maybe I’m wrong, but it looks like your pitching has improved, and like I’ve said before if y’all and us can get some help by the trade deadline, then both teams can run with the Cubs and Brewers. Let the 4 teams battle it out. Once again, thanks for the help.

It's the least we can do after sweeping you guys 4 straight in the beginning of the month

Some have already seen this from yesterday, but for hose who haven't it gives a good timeline on when the injured are expected back.

Injuries & Roster Moves: Moose reevaluated

If they can win as they have through the rash of injuries, hopefully they can continue to win once the key guys return. The key IMO is the pitching as we have seen in the past couple of games. That was stellar. Keep fine tuning the pen and get quality starts. Then makes some moves with the roster to get better if they are still winning and competing for the division title.

It's a rough schedule when you're forced to fly out to SD in the midst of a long road trip in the midwest. We'll see how they handle it
Yea, I know it is, but I want to see your team keep fighting. I know it’s only the first game, but just keep hoping. I know the cards sucked tonight, we aren’t hitting the ball. It sucks.

So how about them rookies? Tyler Stephenson ties it up in the 9th and than India follows it up with a 2 run homer to take the lead.

Joey Votto apologizes to tearful young Reds fan for ejection with signed ball

Cincinnati Reds star Joey Votto sent a written apology on a signed baseball to a tearful young fan to make up for getting tossed in the first inning of Saturday’s game in San Diego.

Soon after Votto was ejected for arguing a third strike on a check-swing appeal, Reds fan Kristin Courtney tagged the Reds in a tweet showing her tearful daughter Abigail wearing a Votto t-shirt with the caption, “When it’s your first MLB game and your favorite player of all time gets thrown out of the game in the first inning” along with three crying emojis and the hashtag #WeLoveYouJoey.

A couple us on here had them with a 3rd in the division finish this season - which is .500 W/L give or take a few games. They are near the halfway point and are at .500 as expected. How they got here was totally unexpected. But that is also normal for baseball.

The biggest question still remaining is will they be buyers or sellers in July. No help from Senzel, Moose and Lorenzen in the first half - which they were counting on preseason. Yet, all three are expected back and healthy in the second half. Shogo has been of little value. Suarez has been ridiculously off. So there's a couple that could be moved right there if you could get something for them. Now that Naquin has stepped up big time, I would rather see the 5 in the OF be Wink, the two Nick's, AA and Naquin; unless they can get a boatload for Castellanos.

Gray, Castillo and Doolittle are doing little. Castillo is trending well tho. Could move Gray if they are sellers. Don't now what the deal with Garrett is, but if he can't get it together move him as well. You can have the talent in the world and still just be a thrower instead of a pitcher.

The pleasant surprises have been India, Naquin, and Stephenson in the field to go with Gutierrez and Antone (when healthy). All are keepers in my book. I also count Miley and Mahle in the pleasant surprise group - those guys are getting it done and both were questionable preseason. Hopefully the second half brings much better pitching in the pen in particular. If it does, this team could sneak into the playoffs if they get healthy.

Lucas Sims to the IL and Bell said he should be out about a month. A horrible pen loses one of the few relief pitchers that actually was decent. I hate being a Reds fan sometimes.

Agree. Amazing the injuries and bad mojo this org has year after year.

Don't care we're a small market club and that long-term contracts hurt us but pay Nicky C whatever he wants to keep him in GABP.

That's where I am with him as long as the contract is stays 4-5 years with no opt outs for 3. Hope they work it out.

Castillo is working back into form thankfully.

India and Stephenson have both proven they are big leaguers. Keep it rolling and get some more like them.

Nick is a cheat code: 3/5, 2 runs, 7 RBIs (hit grand slam), also notched his 27th double and is sitting at 50 RBIs.

Meanwhile old man Votto still bangs went for a double and a homer. He is at 999 RBIs, if Nick hadn't scored on a wild pitch Joey would have been at 1,000 career RBIs on his homer. Needs 50 more hits to hit 2,000 this season as well.

They will go as far as their pitching takes them because they generally have the hitting. Nick-C is having that career year it appears. Big bucks coming his way.

Votto still has gas in the tank. Looks good for 20-25 HR's and has been heating his BA up with that more upright stance. That helps both Nick-C and Wink - can't pitch around them if JV is hitting.

Votto gets 1,000 RBIs on a solo homer and gets his 2nd curtain call of the year. Would expect him to get a 3rd later this year if he breaks 2,000 career hits at home. We've been very privileged to watch a HoFer hopefully spend his entire career in the same uniform.

Dodged a bullet with Bauer. ESPN reporting him in a mess from sexually assaulting a woman.
