Da Reds thread

I think Lodolo is going to be the better long term pitcher for us and maybe Ashcraft too but at least this shows we're willing to sign our own guys. Hopefully we can keep India and Stephenson in a few years.

I agree. Greene hasn't even shown that he can stay healthy for a whole year. I'd have waited 'till the end of the year before considering this. It's really only risky the last 2 yrs

That's not entertaining baseball. Hopefully once we get through this tough stretch in our schedule we'll be competitive

Completely agree.

Sort of surprised at how they came back last night. Ramos paid dividends quickly and Senzel broke out. India and Fraley with key hits in the rally. Good to see.

Call me crazy but I’d almost move Senzel back to 3B full time and play Steer at first until JV gets back.

That's his natural position going back to his HS days here in east TN. I have hated since Day One the way the org has screwed with him. Hand him 3rd permanently. He can sub in for injuries in CF if needed. Move Steer as you suggest. DH him if Votto gets back on the field. He can also sub at 2B and 3B.

Glad to see Senzel persevere and hopefully produce on the promise he had years ago. I had about given up on him with all of the bad moves by this org.

Adding to the buzz despite the loss yesterday - Senzel with MLB player of the week in the NL

Was hoping they could hold that lead yesterday, but it did not happen

Need at least one W and hopefully two against the Padres. Then they get the ChiSox at home who are not good.

Don’t want to jinx it but this is the Senzel I thought we were going to get. So far he is 2 for 2 and another solo home run.

Got to get this off my chest. My dear, departed Reds freak father would want me to say this.

Nick has fought through enough adversity for three players. It's time for him to be given the good health and coaching to fulfill his promise. Hopefully that is happening. He and the team needs him to stay at 3B. He needs stability. I get he is the current Ben Zobrist in terms of ability, I pointed that out years ago. But they screwed up his development in the field and especially at the plate for so long, they need to rethink that. JMO, of course.

This team has been in such a flux with FO decisions and incompetent coaching for so long the players need to know when they come to the park what their job is and stop having to think about everything so much. Just play. The FO and coaching needs to stop thinking player development all of the time. Quit acting like a farm club for the other successful clubs to come after their guys in trade and FA. We are entering the post-JV period and they need the young talent they have like Senzel, India, Stephenson, etc. to be able to grow into the stars they clearly have the talent to become. Same with the big three SP's. Commit to them and have the right coaches working with them. Just focus on finding more like them and trim the herd of wannabes.

There's light at the end of the tunnel now if they will just commit to the path and follow it. They have been wandering in the wilderness for far too long.

Another guy our org "developed" into a wannabe.

I saw Billy play multiple times in AA when they came to east TN. He was a natural RH hitter with a long looping swing who played SS with a strong, but inaccurate arm and speed to burn with a good glove. The move to CF was a no-brainer. Excellent decision.

To then basically order the guy to become a SH who had never done it before in his life at about 20 years of age was insane. He should have refused and asked for a release or trade. He didn't, he tried his best. It was so painful to see him do that so badly. They wanted him closer to 1B to beat out bunts and IF singles. So dang stupid.

All they needed to do was work on shortening his swing as well as his approach to hitting. Work on squaring up for line drives and getting the ball on the ground quicker with that speed he has. It could have been done while they converted him into a CF, left him on the farm an extra season. They totally screwed up a nice person's career who wanted to please his bosses..

So happy with the pitching and that W last night. Did not get to see it, but the reports and box score are encouraging. I was hoping for at least 3 W's on this short road trip and they did it.

Game 2 of Padres Series

Reds win 2-1 in 10

The Good:

Friedl: 3-5, SB (3)
Diaz: Dominated Paders top 3 stars in 10th, Striking out 2 of them
Ashcraft: Dude is a ace in the making! 6 IN, 6 hits, 1 run, 3 K's
Reds Bullpen: 4 IN, 0 hits, 0 runs
Held Tatis & Machado a combined 1-10

The Bad:

Left 4 guys on in the first 2 innings
Steer: 0-5, left 5 runners on, Error
Senzel: 0-4, 4 runners left on

The Ugly:

17 runners left on base. Had chances to blow it open but couldn't get the big hits

Reds now 13-17 on the season

Today: Cessa (1-3, 9.55) vs Lugo (2-2, 3.58)
4:10pm

Today could get ugly with the Padres lineup and Cessa on the mound

I know they want to be careful about rushing prospects and all but can you imagine how this lineup could be improved if they brought up McLain to replace Barrero at SS and Encarnacion-Strand(CES) to replace Steer at 1B?

Honestly McLain, CES, and Andrew Abbott need to be called up service time manipulation be damned. We're a young team anyways I'd rather lose and get the guys experience than still lose just with older, useless vets (Cessa, Weaver, etc).
