Dan Mullen

He's done well in the West Division?

Care to elaborate on that?

Well, you see, he had those great wins against Arkansas and Auburn this year, and did you see how that mother****er beat Florida in 2010? That was the best 7-6 team of all time that he knocked off. What a champion Dan Mullen is, because he has managed to not get his ass kicked by Ole Miss and used to sit in the same room as Urban Meyer from time to time.

Dan Mullen has managed to not get his ass kicked in about 2 games against quality opponents. And don't give me this Florida, Michigan and Ole Miss ****. I said quality.

A win tonight he is 9-3. Pretty good. Lost to Bama, LSU, and A&M- not bad losses there.

For the third time in this thread, what quality wins does Mullen have? I am talking about his entire head coaching career. Name one.

I think you have to look at the total body of work. If he can do well at State, I think he would be good at UT. He is a big upgrade from Dooley. I mean we crapped the bed on Sumlin- do you expect him to beat Bama and LSU?

There are about 123 D1 FBS head coaches that would would be upgrades over Dooley. You aren't exactly setting the bar high.

And again, he didn't just get beat by Bama and LSU, they destroyed the apparent best team he has had in his tenure. Then he got his dick kicked by TAMU to boot.

So, about that body of work. How many times has his team even looked good against a quality opponent? Hell, we could pay Dooley for a couple more years to just go out and get thrashed by the likes of Bama.

Face it, Mullen is overrated as hell.

That may be, but with a win on the road tonight, he is staring at 9-3. Again, as I've said, he is not my first choice, but he would do well.

I don't care if he is your 17th choice, pimping a 9-3 record for a guy that can't beat a good team is still ridiculous. You think 9-3 is an acceptable ceiling here?

And please, show some consistency. You want to talk about how he will be 9-3, but you want to look at his entire body of work. Which one is it? This year, or his body of work? Either way he sucks, but I just want to know what you are arguing.

I say 9-3 in the west at State is good. I don't want to "settle" either- I agree that he is not the best choice, but he is a good coach.

And I say you are wrong. I am not trying to be a dick, but everyone keeps bringing him up and saying that he is a good coach and no one can back it up.

And your opinion is valid. I would just say that if we had to go the Mullen route, he would do well.

He's a long shot at best. Unfortunately a lot of ppl on this board can't have a civilized discussion without resorting to name calling or abuse. Bump this thread when and if we don't land Gruden. Maybe then folks will be more open to suggestions

Thanks- we all want the best for the Vol Family.

Remind me of how good that Florida team was.

Regardless, He beat UF...You asked I answered...He's done well at Miss St...I repeat..MISS ST...At a school like UT he would get better recruits and thus better results...If not him then who is your pick for UT coach?

Simply being Florida does not make a team quality.

I would take pretty much every name getting any kind of traction (save Graham and Fulmer) over Mullen.

So you wold like to see Charlie Strong at UT then? :glare:

If we hired Mullen over Strong, Dave Hart needs to be fired. And I saw you say, if he came to UT he could recruit well. Every MS HS gave him every chance in the world to dominate the recruiting scene there. He was an arrogant prick and screwed up the recruitment of Brassell and Johnson. He gets the scraps from Ole Miss in Mississippi.
