but the police have the law on their side

Nope. Just no. The law is on our side. Know your rights and you will easily find cops that (some not all, I wouldn't even say most) try to arrest you for things they dislike, not things that are illegal.

Let's not forget. You have to be proven guilty. And their word doesn't deem you guilty.

You are correct, it's their word against yours, but their word is enough probable cause to take you to jail and ruin your day. If you want to win the case in court, you will have to hire an attorney, and they aren't cheap, not to mention the court cost, fines, and fees you will have to pay even if you get the charges dismissed. The best thing to do when the police show up is shut up, listen to them and follow their instructions, or you could take a ride with them to the local courthouse where you will get three hots and a cot until you bond out or resolve the matter in court. So in my mind cooperating with the police is the only option. Just my two cents.

Nope: Just NO! The law is on BOTH sides. Ours and the police. If in your experience you choose to say "I wouldn't even say most" ... I submit the problem is yours, not theirs.

KCSO goes by a guideline of the first time they show up it is a warning. Provided it is not a serious crime of course. However, if they have to show up a second time, someone is going to jail.

No one is at fault except the players for putting themselves in that position. Not a bunch of renegade over zealous cops with an agenda against UT football. The police warned the players and left. The players disregarded that warning.

Don't want to go to jail? Then don't be a dumbass and ignore police warnings.

The last thing any sane coach would do is be at a party with alcohol being served with players. But if the coaches were going to party with players, it wouldn't be at a location that easy for cops to get to.

From what I have read of this situation, it was cops being cops. They came back POed, and chose to exercise their authority over minor crap. I know they got a tough job, and there are many cops I respect. But the quotes I have read from them tells me they were feeling a little too much self worth, and mad as hell that they weren't at the Krispy Kreme.

Obviously, you don't have a very good understanding of what a police office does on a daily basis, and the danger they face on the most routine calls. Maybe, you should volunteer to ride a long with an officer for a few nights if you do I think your opinion would change greatly, especially if it's a really proactive agency.

The more I hear about this incident it appears a lot of people where very fortunate they were not seriously injured and the police HAD to have shown incredible restraint....if there were interferences on the scene, etc...the police have EVERY RIGHT to get control of that scene (especially with the large number they were dealing with) up to and using physical contact (subduing any offending person)....When something like this goes down and the police are called and required by law to investigate the ONLY thing for a party attender to do is SHUT UP, BE CALM, BE STILL, AND DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD!!!! End of story, nothing more to be said....the game is over and the police have the law on their sides as it should be....

Yes SIR, officer, Sir! Can I ask why you are yelling and why I am being arrested?

No, I cant? And now you are throwing me to the ground and handcuffing me with your knee in my neck and your cop buddy holding my legs in an uncomfortable position even though i am not struggling but you keep screaming, "STOP STRUGGLING?!?"

Sorry, Sir, my legs dont bend that way, I cant help that my bones and joints are struggling against being displaced.

I've never been in that situation you describe, but then again, I shut up, remained calm, and did as I was told.

As do I, but I did see this happen to a friend.

And I said, "Hey, man, what did he do? He just asked you a question." To which the cop responded, "SHut your mouth or you'll be lying next to him!"

90% of cops are arseholes. they do this job and brag at home with their buddies about beating some guy up or how to take a drunk down the fastest.

That other 10% actually do it bc they want to help their community and get a paycheck

LOL, I suppose he/she could have given you a prepared, scripted presentation why it was "nun ya dayum buidness," but I would say he/she was more concerned with making certain he/she had control of the situation as he/she was trained to do.:hi:

Sorry if that is overly confrontational, but it is a bit of a sore spot for me. I had a relative, who as a cop, killed because he gave some scumbag the benefit of the doubt and let his guard down for half a second. Remember these folks sometime's do not have the time to second guess and they are accustomed to dealing with people who do not make their job any easier.

sorry to hear about your relative, but just because he got killed doesnt excuse police brutality.

Some cops abuse their power, just like some idiots think it's smart to resist a cop.

Neither one is right.

Aw let it go.

Some folks like the police, some folks don't.

They get up and go to work every day in the most violent state in the nation.

Give it a rest. Talk football.

Granted, you will find egomaniacs in all walks of life.:salute: I apologize for my rather terse reaction to your post.

There are two kinds of people in this world..those who get their asses kicked by cops and those who don't get mouthy and leave freely.

Failed police exam.

"According to Lunahi and Nair, he tried to bypass the officers to stop his wife from driving off because she was so angry. They said officers took him down and it escalated."

Obviously we do not know what actually occurred but had he cooperated with the officers as the law demands, it sounds as if this incident could have easily been avoided.

so the penalty for being uncooperative with police is death? Harsh

Notice that the wife and daughter state he chose to ignore police orders and "it" escalated. That tells me who was escalating the incident in all probability, but then again I was not there.

I wasn't aware the law demanded we obey LEO without question. We should just fall in. Don't get me wrong, I know some great officers and one of my really good friends dates one. I still see no logic into the "fall into line" mentality. We are to remain skeptical of the boys in blue. Keep them accountable.

I'm no attorney, however I would think the courts would interpret your self righteous decision to disobey an officer as obstruction of justice at the very least. You, of course, are free to explore your options.
