'24 DC OT Jordan Seaton (Future Portal Entry)

It’s been 24 hours guys. Snap and clear.

Let’s turn our attention to the next player we put a full court press on just to miss.
I’m ready.

They’ve landed the same number of blue chip commits and total commits this year as Alabama.

Saban can’t close!
If we had the same class, but the hits and misses had been less bunched together, people wouldn’t be as upset.

The multiple misses in a row have really made the class seem worse than it actually is.

The narrative that commits at NSD count more than kids who commit early is just dumb.

I would just like to say that seeing this recruit commit to Colorado made me want to puke. On many levels, I felt it was wrong. Maybe these things should not happen, but we all know they do, and when they do I pause to appreciate the many fine student/athletes who are committed to our team. We have good players on our team. More good players are committed and there are more who will. I wish good luck to Seaton, but the very best luck and the best of everything else worth having in life I wish for the guys who are with us. They are so much more important. Go Vols!

you are the one playing the demographics game with all the black players in the NFL, but you don't want to recognize that 100% of all NFL players ever are MALE? why would you expect there to be ANY female representation if you are relying on player demographics to make your argument?
huh what? I don’t. He was breaking it out by black males which made it look like the representation was closer to the population. So I just pointed out it should just be by black coaches regardless of gender to get the proper %.

Regardless, the black representation in the sport is much higher than their population % so you would expect the # of black head coaches to reflect that statistically or at least be much closer than what it currently is now.

I have to admit something. I wouldn’t mind seeing white running backs get a chance, like Mike Alstott and Peyton Hillis. I loved their running style. I hope that doesn’t make me racist

It doesn’t. As another poster mentioned it can be fun to watch a white guy ball out at DB too because it’s so rare.

Here's where I see the hypocrisy and then I'll hush. All of you that talk about under representation, I respect your opinion. However, Be Honest with yourself. IF Coach Heupel resigns tomorrow, who is the first name that pops in your mind? What is his race? Does it matter? Just something to think about.

Wanting to play for a black coach isn't surprising. Black coaches have had an advantage in recruiting for years, and it's easy to see why. It's just human nature. It doesn't make the recruits racist.

What is surprising is that he said it out loud on national television. It's shocking for us to hear, but that thought has been in Seaton's head for months. He was quoted saying the same thing after his Colorado visit in early November. Colorado's coach was so convincing with his pitch that it didn't seem controversial to Seaton. He was just repeating what the Colorado staff put in his head.

Hot take: I think everyone subconsciously favors people who have the same skin color as themselves. We are most comfortable around people we relate with. That's just human nature. But a racist is someone who allows that subconscious favoritism to go unchecked such that it affects how they think about others and how they treat people of a different race. If a person sets accolades, character, and ability aside and gives someone an advantage or disadvantage primarily because of their skin color - that is racist, IMO.

There's no way to know what all the deciding factors were for Seaton, but when you make comments like the one he made on national television, it's hard to not assume that race was the primary deciding factor. BUT I am a first amendment absolutist. He can say what he wants. And if he wants race to be the deciding factor in his life decisions, he has the freedom to do that. And I think no less of him for it.

If white coaches were a vast minority of HCs, then yes.
Only if the demographics and math supported that….
There are an estimated 20 million African American males in the USA and a documented 330 million citizens.
That’s a little over 6 percent of population.

There are 133 D1 jobs in football and 15 of the coaches are African American AKA over 11 percent or said another way almost double their demographic representation of the US population.

It’s so lame to punish people either way for their skin tone but this is now a weak argument.

Power 5 math is around 10 percent also higher than 6 percent from my count.

Stop breaking it out by male/female when all 133 coaches are male.

Edit: Also as we discussed it doesn’t make sense just to look at total population, you need to look at the % of black players in the sport for the best estimation.

Continued thoughts then I'm done... The frustration that's displayed in this thread isn't a result of Seaton doing what he wants, it's the result of the double standard in America. A white person could never get away with saying something like Seaton did. We're beginning to not even get away with evaluating resumes fairly because of all the D.E.I. stuff imposed upon corporate America. I personally work in an environment where black people and women have an advantage. I work with a pretty rock-solid group of engineers and there are federal contracts I want to pursue, but the feds are only reviewing proposals from DBE firms. I don't care if Jordan Seaton wants to play for a black coach. My frustration runs deeper than that and this recruitment just brings those frustrations to the surface. End rant.
