Department of Government Efficiency - DOGE

Everything should be on the table and looked at/reviewed. This just appears to be the quick and dirty part of it.

They're like.... shouldn't we cancel the SpaceX contracts. I'm like.... okay why don't we look at all that. Heck, I'm fine with getting rid of all of NASA. (they think they are being rational and they actually believe they are hurting people's feelings) 😂

Than they're all upset because they now want to cancel NASA.
If they cancel SpaceX (Elon's) contracts. How will the government get their spy satellites into orbit. Who will fly American astronauts to and from the ISS?

I do hope they cancel NASA's SLS & Orion programs.

This stuff hasn't been standard practice for decades. He just makes things up and people cheerlead it

Like Trump is part of white supremacy
Trump taking away women’s rights
Trump is a loose cannon to have his hand on the nuclear codes

You know the game, this was all new practices that were endorsed and cheered by simpletons.

Misleading info is certainly SOP, and most people know to distrust politicians as a result. "This will be the last election" is purely made up but the skepticism of politicians vanishes for Elon

How is millions of dollars going to Afghanistan farmers to support the growth of Opium; Millions going to promote tourism in Egypt and Tunisia, or the countless Billions spent on supporting LGBT+ organizations in other nations not a waste of our tax payer money?

Please explain...

Liberal mind, because that’s who it’s always been.

So, I had a thought about the Dems just now, and their hissy fits about "threats" to Democracy and Constitutional "Crises" etc...

The American people elected Donald Trump based on his campaign promises, which he is literally performing exactly as he promised. Now, apparently, the Dems are accusing he and Elon of a "hostile takeover" of the government.

Anyone see yet where I'm going?

Why does it have to be "hostile", if the Dems respect Democracy and the rule of law? Shouldn't they actually be... I don't know... HELPING the will of the people and those we elected to implement it?

Trump Fires 2,000 Energy Department Employees as DOGE Makes Major Cuts: Live updates

Donald Trump's DOGE is laying off nearly 2,000 Department of Energy employees as Elon Musk's cronies start making headway on massive cuts.

The firings come as Trump has publicly backed the work being done by Musk and his lieutenants, whom he has called a 'force of super-geniuses.'

Because, uh...Dems have been running things the last four years and were soundly voted out. And no one has been minding the store since, uh...ever. Now form is being to be put to the void.

Auditing isn't rocket surgery. All agencies fall under the executive, and it's quite far from "looking to be wholly unconstitutional" simply because the left is making court cases of it while shrieking 'death of democracy!!!!'.
Sounds like USAID has been running for decades. Can't just point at the most recent seat in the chair and scream: "Gotcha!" You need to get everyone, no matter which jersey they wear. (Not just USAID; they are all generational issues.)

Randomly cutting programs because you didn't understand there is more than one Gaza isn't auditing.

Cutting NEVI contracts that were already signed is not likely to fall under the executive's purview, nor is shuttering agencies and programs specifically funded by Congress.

Know how you'd be freaking out if George Soros was handed the reigns? Yeah, that would be messed up. And that's what's happening with Musk.

I've contracted to the government and worked with them. It's laughable that you say "no experience in government" like it's an insult.

Wow, do I have unlimited stories...
It is an insult when you, with no experience whatsoever, are making decisions as to whether what they do is needed. If Republicans want these cuts, Congress should be making them. Not Elon Musk.

...and they're not "untrained", they largely have more language model and advanced algorithm experience than all of us combined. Plus, the government hires "untrained" and "inexperienced" people all the time. There exist job (GS) levels just like in any organization.

@jwells has shut off his brain.
I just don't think guys that spout off racist nonsense on Twitter and guys who've been fired before for sharing confidential information should be trusted with this. I also think they're flunkies who, obviously, don't know what they're doing. Most all of their smoking gun "frauds" are either not what they claim or are Trump Admin contracts. This new provisional employee cut is going to wreck services that are in no way fraud, waste, or partisan.

It's stupid. But look, I get it, you've gotta keep in line here. Can't admit people should be hired on merit, as that would disqualify most of the Cabinet.

Congress appropriates money.
They should make any budgetary changes. It's not the Executive's job to decide which Congressionally-funded programs are worthwhile or not. But I get it. The GOP majority is not a serious group of legislators with any interest in doing their job. Easier for them to roll over, ignore the Constitution, and I guess get ready for their inevitable majority loss in 2026. Spineless group, really.

You want Congress doing it? The ones who were busted having affairs with Chinese spies, and hiring them as their driver for a decade or so? Maybe it should have been Hillary with her email servers? Or Biden selling his office with US taxpayer moneys?

Save yourself the egg on your face and step away from your fake outrage.

It is EXACTLY the executive's job to oversee how the money is spent in his departments. You've seriously never seen how budgets work? Congress allocates. That means they are setting a maximum available to the Executive, per category. Then the President gets to decide how and how much of that is spent.

The radical difference is that we now have an executive that promised to cut spending... and get this... HE'S ACTUALLY DOING IT!

Amen.

Bro if you wanna hammer congressional Republicans, go for it!!

One of the reasons I like Trump so much. He’s one of the few (R)s that’s not a total puss.

They would in theory just have to abandon the programs, meaning if they are abandoning programs than you could cancel future contracts. SpaceX has just as much right to the bid process as any other company, of course as you mentioned there really probably isn't much available as competitors.

I generally don't see the purpose of NASA.

Umm, neither GOP or Dem legislators are a serious group. For decade regardless of which party is in control of congress they have been ceding power to the executive branch so they won't be held accountable and lose their seats.

Out: "GEORGE SOROS MONEY CONTROLS GOVERNMENT"
In: "I like Musk controlling government. Tread on me harder, daddy."
I'll leave it to you to work out:

(A) How disparate those two comments are, and...
(B) How stupid the "Musk controlling the government" claim is.

Good God, one would think that with how much the MSM has been proven partisan liars, people would stop crawling up to them to gobble up the talking point drivel.

It depends.

IF Congress specifically funds a program, the President doesn't get to decide not to do it. That would be tantamount to a line-item veto. For example, cutting NEVI contracts is likely running afoul of Congress.

If Congress BROADLY funds an agency or program, it is still the job of that agency to fulfill its Congressionally-approved role, but the specifics would be up to the Executive. For example, deciding on a mountain's name, as stupid as the stunt is.

Presidents do it all the time, why do you think the American voters fired the last group? They not only elected not to enforcement of illegals entering the county, they actually appear to have been criminally funding it.

Actually there are laws in place as to fraud, waste and abuse especially considering we're talking criminal activity. The President actually has a duty to fix the issue, he has a duty to criminally prosecute if possible.
