Derek Chauvin trial

It's the second degree conviction that makes me believe you're wrong, and that the jury was afraid of finding him not guilty. Guilty of third degree and guilty of manslaughter, those make sense. I'm not convinced this satisfies the legal definition of second degree murder. But I do agree Chauvin is guilty of a crime.

Did you watch the trial?

Chauvin was screwed when his fellow officers and boss came out and said he didn't follow procedure, and when the doctor said the drugs didn't cause Floyd's death.

Also, I started looking up whether all three convictions stand (still unclear to me) but i saw nothing to indicate that the appeals are separate.
I heard that mentioned by one of the talking heads. I inferred it as a statement of fact. It could have been speculation though as I had it on as background noise and was multitasking.

Probably purposeful by Maxine. Playing chess. She needs this guy to not go away.
She isn't that smart. I do think she is this week's heat magnet to keep people form talking about Cuomo or the other scandals enveloping the Dimwit party. This will blow over (of course) and something else will take center stage next week.

Dude was borderline canonized in a lot of ways.
I don’t think he’s being made into a “saint”. To me, this is people pointing out the injustice that was done by him being murdered. He obviously was a man that had made some poor choices. Did that warrant a death sentence? I don’t think so... and obviously the jury didn’t think so either.

Not all of it. But that doesn't change the legal definition of second degree murder, or my opinion of it. Like I said, I believe Chauvin is guilty of third degree and manslaughter, just not convinced it reaches the definition of second degree.

Painting him on a wall with halos and angel's wings around him is more than pointing out an injustice, but whatever. It's an ancillary point

Eh, people purposefully avoid talking about how he resisted arrest to begin with. 100% agree he didn't deserve to die, but I still contend he's more likely than not alive had he simply complied with the arrest and not fought being put in the back of a squad car. Lot of people gloss over that, or just totally ignore it.

If you watched the trial you should not be shocked at the guilty verdict. The prosecution put on a convincing case. The defense did not. And for good reason. They had no credible defense to put on. The grasping of straws to create reasonable doubt flopped because of lack of credibility. Nelson seemed fairly inept but in fairness he really had nothing to work with. Chauvin is guilty. Period.

A unanimous verdict was reached as was required. 12 people found Chauvin guilty.

To claim the jury found Chauvin guilty out of fear of consequences of a “not guilty” verdict or the Judge was afraid implies you either didn’t watch the FACTS presented in the trial or your biases with respect to the law outweigh your ability to comprehend

I know nothing about 3 guilty verdicts under the MN laws. I do think it attests to the certainty of the opinions of 12 people
If you believe that fear of the mob didn't play at least some factor in the verdicts your are either a fool or incredibly naive.

I agree the defense was shoddy but we have seen time and again with less reasonable doubt than in this case a not guilty verdict returned. The defense wasn't very good, the prosecution was.

I mean for the love of Christ, Nancy Pelosi on the verdict:

So again, thank you George Floyd for sacrificing your life for justice. For being there to call out to your mom, how heartbreaking was that, call out for your mom, I can't breathe.”

Liberals are insane. They need to be boxed by a kangaroo.

I realize that and my opinion re 2 nd is sketchy too. I watched about 70 % of the trial and all of Nelson’s closing arguments.

Without debating the merits of each charge I’m not familiar with the concept of reaching a verdict on each charge IMO, multiple charges are litigated to ensure the defendant is found guilty of something. To me, a guilty plea of say 2nd degree murder is implicit he is guilty of each/all of the less serious charges.

And this is what is happening.........retirements, early retirements, and 2 week notices have skyrocketed. Some of the bigger agencies here in Florida have stopped accepting retirement paperwork and are spacing them out as they try and recruit new officers........the problem is no one wants to be one anymore as they see the way policing is going and the funds/pay are in jeopardy of being stripped. Most agencies are super short, no officer is being proactive causing crime to soar, and the proverbial "you get what you pay for" is coming into play as it pertains to new officers. When I started you had to have a degree, no legal issues, upstanding citizen, etc, etc and there would be a pool of 500 guys for about 5 to 6 spots. Now they are out recruiting and begging any breathing body to take the job..........its about to get bad guys.......real bad.

I’ve been trying to get my son-in-law to find a new line of work since last summer. The risk just isn’t worth it.

Disagree. I watched the entire trial, every minute of it. I think they got it wrong. I find it hard to believe they were not influenced by the intense political climate. The jurors had been living in the middle of it for a year. Every one of them admitted to knowing about the case and seeing the video when they were selected. The trial should have been moved.

The state won the jury instruction argument which allowed way more latitude than the reading of the law. After I saw the instructions I knew it was over. The intentional assault condition is a required element of the murder charges and that was marginalized in the instructions and not proven IMHO. The state did a nice dance on that point but it's a slippery slope and could apply to any sort of use of force / tough restraint. They just opened the door to claim assault for anyone detained who's been resisting.

Right decision for the country to save civil unrest but the jury caved to political pressure. He was guilty of manslaughter, not those murder charges.

What a ****ing moron. How can her own people justify this level of idiocy?

Pelosi should also be thanking Chauvin. He's taking a life sentence for the country when he should have been jailed for a much shorter manslaughter conviction. Might even be a death sentence for him. Going to be hard to retain anonymity for Chauvin in jail. He'll likely get a shiv.

Do cops go to the same jail as everybody else?
