Derek Chauvin trial

Appeal is an absolute certainty now?

I'm not certain that there will be an appeal. It looks like judges are too afraid of consequences outside the courtroom to do their duty when it may lead to civil breakdown. It's like parents who failed to discipline children and then live in fear of them when the kids are bigger. The question is whether we decide to back away from mob rule and be a country again or sink into revolution.

She was not involved in the deliberations.

It’s not grounds for a mistrial.
You really don't get it do you? She is the only one... and this is the key... SO FAR... that has expressed this feeling. What if one of the main jurors admits that?

Rule 606 - Competency of Juror as Witness, Minn. R. Evid. 606 | Casetext Search + Citator

(b) Inquiry into validity of verdict or indictment. Upon an inquiry into the validity of a verdict or indictment, a juror may not testify as to any matter or statement occurring during the course of the jury's deliberations or to the effect of anything upon that or any other juror's mind or emotions as influencing the juror to assent to or dissent from the verdict or indictment or concerning the juror's mental processes in connection therewith, except that a juror may testify on the question whether extraneous prejudicial information was improperly brought to the jury's attention or whether any outside influence was improperly brought to bear upon any juror, or as to any threats of violence or violent acts brought to bear on jurors, from whatever source, to reach a verdict, or as to whether a juror gave false answers on voir dire that concealed prejudice or bias toward one of the parties, or in order to correct an error made in entering the verdict on the verdict form. Nor may a juror's affidavit or evidence of any statement by the juror concerning a matter about which the juror would be precluded from testifying be received for these purposes.

Even if she was on the final jury, the alarming part of her statement probably isn’t even admissible in court. It’s part of her preexisting mindset, which would have been the same as the preexisting mindset of any potential juror anywhere in America, much less Minnesota. She doesn’t say anything was improperly brought to her attention or that she was improperly threatened.

She could testify to the part where she says she didn’t lie about being prejudiced on the questionnaire. A questionnaire where she undoubtedly was asked whether she could adjudicate the case fairly. She could also testify that the extraneous protests surrounding Daunte Wright didn’t change her feelings about the Chauvin case. None of which is legally relevant.

Good luck with that. Legally, the “he didn’t get a fair trial” argument is crap.

You’re wrong. If they think you’re armed and you aren’t complying you certainly could be shot. I had a gun pulled on me once because I had a hand dangling down over the front of the seat as a cop had me pulled over. I didn’t even realize it and the cop asked if I had something under my seat. I said no, and then leaned forward a little to see why he was asking. Next thing I know he had his gun out yelling to get my hands up immediately. Had I continued down I easily could’ve been shot, all over a mistake. It’s awfully easy to play armchair QB when your life isn’t on the line every day and when you get days to think about what if’s while a cop has minutes or seconds to make a life or death decision. Sure there are bad apples and there are jerks that are cops. Most aren’t and most certainly aren’t racist.
Pro tip: hands on the top of the steering wheel at all times. When you're getting your license out of the wallet, wrists on the steering wheel. If you need something from the glove box or console, wait til the cop asks for it and tell him where you're gonna get it from before you do so. I have some practice at getting pulled over.

Once Floyd was handcuffed, Chauvin should have taken his knee off Floyd’s neck. Chauvin should go to jail.

The bigger question is why the police even showed up to the scene? Floyd had left the store with his counterfeit money and was sitting in a car. (If I remember correctly). There are way too many violent crimes happening for law enforcement to worry about a petty situation that was already taken care of. His alleged crime that day was nothing more than the equivalent of a burnt out tag light. We see it all the time were cops show up or pull someone over for petty sh$t and abuse the citizen. (The granny with dementia and the soldier who was looking for a well lighted area).

Police resources would be better served by only working violent crimes. (The cop who prevented the girl from being stabbed)

George Floyd probably would have died from his addition on the street somewhere without many people knowing his name, but an overzealous cop made him famous by taking his life and destroying his in the process.

I wonder how sophisticated the counterfeit bill was and if there is an investigation into this? Wonder what they found?
Just realized your are Mooooney..lol

It’s just more fun to make shat up and blame whitey.

Think about your personal reaction when just pulled over for a speeding ticket or such. Personally you are ramped up as a rational individual and it happens unexpectedly. Personally I got pulled over recently and several times over the years, sometimes in an uncompromising position. It is that "busted" movement, and the best thinking is overcome your personal messup and not let emotion dictate the moment.

Not to say there are not bad police but the more I am doing wrong..the more complying one should be. Never ramp the situation and bring more scrutiny..

I don’t think the secret service would roll over in bed over $40 in counterfeit bills
Sure they would because they would assume there's more. People printing money aren't stopping at $40 bucks. Secret Service are looking to trace that source. Even if it wasn't Floyd himself, they'd want to know where the counterfeit (if they were counterfeit) bills came from and haul him in for questioning.

One 20..yea probably not an issue. Four bills..maybe something deeper. I wonder if there is a story behind this. Different denominations at that.

Even one $20, they want to know where it came from. Someone printing money isn't stopping at one $20. They probably don't arrest, but they definitely question. "Where did you get the bill?" They want the source. They don't care about the small fish, but they do care about whoever is printing it up.

Right. He was obviouly at bottom of the toten pole. Printing 20's is sketchy, but dollar bills? No marks to ID for purchase. Dollar bills are small denomination and not under scrutiny. Just make ur printing press go brrrrrr.

The fact that he had TWO denominations and multiple bills peaks my interest.
