Plenty of people disagreed with Obama on many issues before the Wright deal. This is just another example of why this man has no need to be elected.

If anyone tried hard enough McCain and Hillary would look just as bad by next Monday.

Did Jeremiah Wright blow up any buildings or kill whitey? I fail to see the comparison.

The point is that someone can be a pedophile and it would never come up in their sermons (you would think)...on the other hand..this guy seems like he has some serious issues...and they did come up in his sermon. Wright put it out there in the public forum, and Obama still chose to call him a spiritual mentor, an "uncle" figure, and pay him a a political adviser.

That has more to do with this entire argument than the Wright argument ever thought about. All Wright did is add fuel to the fire. Like I said and I will leave it at this, no one man can be responsible for another man's words.

gotcha, I was only saying there is a difference between speaking but not acting, and vice versa

What the issue?? How many people even knew Wright's name in the mainstream until that sermon?? Up until that point in time it was all good for Obama to have him as a spiritual mentor.
Not at all. I would have to guess that the McCain machine was prepping all along to bring out the ties to Wright (as well as plenty of what Wright has said over the past 20 years), come fall.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on where you stand, the Clinton Machine jumped on it now.

I am fully aware of my use of "machine" and "Machine."

Yep. Individual churches create a theme. The people in the pews agree with what is being preached or why be there?

I have gone to church my entire life and I have read the Bible in it's entirety. I have yet to find a church anywhere where I support their beliefs 100%. I have been fortunate to find churches that largely support my ideals and I have stuck with those churches.

He's already said he didn't condone nor approved of the Reverend's sermon. What more do you want??

he condoned his advisors behavior for 20 years. now he's running for president, it looks bad, and now he claims he has a problem with it. it's not as though this is hte first wackjob thing out of the reverend's mouth. i can't believe obama has been given a virtual free pass on this and a free pass on that speach where he threw his grandma under the bus and compared anger over affirmative action with this guys wackjob comments. if mccain did similar things he'd be KILLED.

No one is having to "try" here. It is what it is. No one fabricated anything. Obama chose this bigot as to be one of the most influential people in his life. Don't see anyone "trying" to make him look bad here.

No one agrees 100% with what a minister preaches, or at least I doubt they would or should. But there is a theme at a church and if you don't agree with it then why the hell become a member there.

Me disagreeing with my pastor on interpretation of some scripture is a different matter than sitting before a preacher that preaches hate and "ok'ing" it by remaining a member.

I don't think Clinton can even name the last preacher she saw in church, let alone the church's name. Oh wait a minute...

when you are a public figure and a close advisor who is your minister is saying racist and offensive things, to continue to go there you are unquestionably lending support to his views. a) obama isn't just some schlub off the street and b) these things the minister is saying are not merle doctrine or religion issues they are political and racist.

The theme of any church I've ever felt the need to go back a second time for has always been to love all and spread the word. That is the theme of the New Testament. That and obviously realize Jesus is the risen Savior who died for our sins (aka the word). I've been to numerous churches where I felt comfortable for quite some time (not 20 years though) until suddenly one day the preacher went way out on a limb and said something completely out there. In those situations, I always felt my preacher deserved the right of a second chance.

How long has he publicly been saying these racist and offensive things though?

It takes years to build a good reputation, and seconds to ruin it.

Sure second chance. Bravo...I am all for it..a third..fourth...100th? The guy is a bigot...no debate on that. Obama remained close to him nonetheless, add it to the list of reasons this guy does not deserve to be POTUS.

Yep. I am amazed at the people that willing to give this guy a pass for allowing such a hateful person so much influence in his life.

Hmmm, I didn't know it was shortly after 9-11 he game that sermon and anoth it 2003, I thought it was recently. Now I definitely don't see how this could hurt Obama for something that was said many years ago in a time of high emotions. Still don't agree with it, but Obama's not responsible.
