how is he not responsible? this guy also called Farrakkkan a great man YEARS AGO. this is one of obama's closest advisors by his own admission. you don't know hte views of one of your closest advisors? let's face it. we have a very good chance of having a potential racist as president.

Obama, credited for greatness although I don't know what he has accomplished? On the other hand, one of his closest advisors is an overt bigot but Obama should receive no negativity or criticism for this? This guy has it made.

When Obama says these things in a public forum, I will hold him responsible. Also if you said something stupid, would your friends and family be held responsible??

If you make a habit of having bigoted friends, it will have an impact on how people view you. Don't create a circle of bigots around you and you will not have to worry about people thinking you are one.

as 123 said, family is a different matter. Can't pick and choose those. And if someone has been one of my closest friends for 20+ years and I am spouting off racist comments then they should be help responsible. I would hope after all that time they would have the testicular fortitude to confront me if they thought I was out of line (and do it before the media forced them to).

So he has distanced himself from the Reverend now after 5 and 7 year old sermons have surfaced. I would say he is trying to move on, wouldn't you??

Family is different. blood is blood. if i repeatably said racist things i promise you that my friends who did not hold those beliefs would no longer be my friends anymore.

Hilarious. He has distanced himself because he is running for POTUS and he can see how radioactive this guy is. He did the right thing when people were "looking" not when people "were not looking".

so in order to run for POTUS, you must know every detail about those you trust. I'm assuming no one here other than myself has ever thought they really knew someone only to find out years later they've done something completely stupid and wrong in their past.

these were multiple public sermons. wright himself is a political and social leader. to imply obama didn't know his thoughts and his public comments implies obama is a pretty clueless man. this isn't like finding out your friend got a DUI in college or something.

How is it different?? If someone is going to be held responsible for what someone else says, it doesn't matter the relationship. Now I am seeing how people are picking a choosing to use this argument. This wouldn't even be an issue if Wright wasn't the former leader of one of Obama's committees, the African American Religious Leadership Committee, a group of over 170 national black religious leaders who supported Obama's bid for the Democratic nomination. Wright is no longer on the committee and Obama is speaking out against what Wright said 5 and 7 years ago. Why is this STILL an issue.

actually I do have close friends who are now youth ministers and preachers. Not sure that any of them have a church with attendance in the thousands, but either way I still can't attest for every sermon they give.

You would be hard-pressed to find a candidate who didn't have a questionable character on their advisory staff. This is pure speculation, but I feel confident in saying it.
