DirecTV and the SEC Network (merged)

Here is a post from somebody on one of the satellite message boards about direct TV and the SEC Network.
The site is called satellite guys.

Here is what I know. The info I am getting is coming from a friend at ESPN, who was feeding me information about the DISH / ESPN Deal. He was 100% on the money with what I was told. But still to be safe I am calling this a RUMOR.

I am being told that a deal is done, and now the waiting game is on getting the contract finalized and signed. Getting the contract done took a long time for DISHas both sides wanted to make sure the contract was fair to both sides and took a lot of redlining and talks to get the finalized contract.

With that said I am confident with this RUMOR that we will see SEC in time for the fall kickoff.

Again this is what I am hearing and I am just passing it along.

So, I'm a loyal Vol, and your loyalties are with Directv, good for you!

I hope for your sake, Directv gets their act together in time for you to enjoy the SEC Network on 8/14, I know I will be enjoying it.

So, have you ordered every PPV game UT has had in the past? If not, then according to your rules, you aren't a loyal Vol.

I'm not too concerned about having the SEC N on 8/14. I'm more concerned about having by the last weekend in August.

Bingo...but I bet it's there by August 14th.

Dish money helped build our new facilities

Dish money helped with stadium upgrades

Dish money helps hire our coaching staffs, outfit our players, etc

DirectTv money doesn't

Don't confuse them with logic count, they aren't capable of it.

Yes, I have, I haven't missed a televised UT game since 1985, and I don't intend to start now! That's why I switched to Dish!

I'm impressed. :good!:

I think Directv will get the deal done. It's not like the UF, UGA, Bama games will be on SEC TV. I'll just find a bar in Sarasota or Bradenton that has it and go watch the 1st couple of games there.

That doesn't make one a "non-Vol." I happen to love the Sunday Ticket and for that I need Directv. That doesn't make my diploma from UT less worthy.

No once again you got it wrong. Loyal Vols, or not loyal Vols are not made up of a stupid network that probably won't be showing or talking too much of the Vols sad to say. They will be talking about Alabama, Florida, Auburn and LSU for the most part. Tennessee will be overshadowed by these and other teams until they do well in football. Other sports is a different story, however, especially women's basketball, softball, and a few other sports. But even the gymnastics are dominated mostly by the SEC teams above! YUCK!

I have grown up with DirecTV my whole life, and nothing has compared to DirecTV. NOBODY has the programming, the channels, or the customer service that DirecTV has.

If I don't get SEC Network by 8/14 I am not going to lose ANY sleep at all. There isn't going to be enough stuff to keep my attention than what I already know about all the teams.

By August 31 is key. Then I just need the network for 2 or three games. Even then I am not sweating it, because my stepfather in law has the SEC Network on his Dish Network. All I need it for is the game.

The rest I do want the BEST customer service, the BEST programming, and the BEST value for my money. And I get that with DirecTV.

Plain and simple. Just my opinion.

I appreciate your opinion, but how do you know they are the best? Have you ever had Comcast or Dish? I have been a subscriber of all three, all are over priced. Dish is the lesser of the three evils. Plus, they have better receivers and an App for my IPad that allows me to take my Dish programming anywhere. Does Directv offer that service?

In your own words You have grown up with Directv, I have grown up with the Vols. My loyalty is to the Vols not to a satellite provider that over charges for their service, and doesn't get what it means to be a Vol. Dish "gets it" as evidenced by their support of the Vols and the SEC.

Dish is a corporate sponsor of UT athletics. What does Directv support?

Thanks, I got hooked on the Vols in 1985 with the SugarVols! I wasn't trying to belittle anyone's status as a Vol just because they have Directv. I'm just saying I wiil chose the Vols over anything else, that's where my loyalties lie.

Hypothetically, If Dish were to drop the SEC Network and the only place that I would be able to see the Vols on the SEC Network is on Directv then, I'm ditching Dish and going back to Directv. But, that won't happen because Dish is committed to the Vols and the SEC Network.

The problem with going to a bar is that because of the NFL Sunday Ticket most bars carry Directv and if your lucky they may carry the local cable provider too. Maybe you can find a bar with Dish or the ATT Uverse, so you can enjoy both the Vols and the Sunday Ticket. Good Luck, I hope that Directv gets the SEC Network so you can enjoy the Vols and the NFL Sunday Ticket. GBO!!

Heard a report today on 104.5 Nashville that NFL Sunday Ticket will be opened up to non-Directv subscribers this season.

That would be a death blow to Directv if it's true, and they don't come to terms with ESPN on the SEC Network.

I think that's for IOS devices (tablets and phones). If AppleTV gets it, then all bets are off.

I have direct tv and enjoy it but C'MON MAN. You spend tons of money on guy with puppet lover comercials but no sec network...that's not "jazzy" !

I think that was about were DirecTV is going to make Sunday ticket available for people to stream to their devices without a dish. From what I have read about it it's going to cost. If Direct doesn't keep Sunday ticket then the merger with at&t wont happen and direct wil have to pay att

Even so, if DTV doesnt have it done by then, the only games you'll miss are the crappy non-conference games.

Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida games will all be on ESPN or CBS or ABC.

Here is something else regarding the SEC Network and Direct the article is a couple of days old.

Why DIRECTV Will Add the SEC Network

People really should not question whether or not DTV will carry the SEC. They absolutely will without a doubt.

The only question is when will they add is and where will they place it within their packages which is the primary hang up in the negotiations with ESPN.

For me personally, even if I have to miss the first two games, I am not switching over my TV provider which I like more than any of the other providers out there. Sooner or later DTV will have it and I'll never miss another game. Being in Nashville, I probably would not have been able to see those first two games anyway if the SEC network didnt exist so what do I really lose?

Just chill and wait. Are you any less of a fan if you miss a couple games?

I shht you not, as I'm reading this thread I get a call from some directv representative who I could hardly understand trying to get me to sign up for some stupid 3 month "free" promotional package. I said "no thank you" at least a dozen times and she still wouldn't let me off of the phone so I just had to hang up. These calls are getting more and more frequent too unfortunately. Directv has about 3 more weeks to get on board with the SECN then it's back to dish for me. Directv calls me waaaay too often. Every time you make a programming change or anything it seems like they call you at least 3 times afterwards to take a "brief" survey of your experience.

Strange. The only time I remember Directv calling me in recent years was when I was attempting to get a faulty remote replaced online. I've done several package upgrades/downgrades the last few years and they haven't called me.
I too am looking to switch in about three weeks if the deal isn't done, but I'm beginning to believe it will happen.

I have already previously stated why I think DirecTV is better (IMO, again) and I appreciate your opinion as well. As I do appreciate that Dish supports the Vols, the problem lies with the football and basketball.

If I cannot get the NFL Sunday Ticket, or the Men's basketball games that I wanna see, you aren't going to be my provider. The big games I actually must pay for to see, and Dish does not allow me to have either of those.

The SEC network is cool, and I will enjoy the Vols game whether I watch it at my house on DirecTV or at my stepfather's house.

If the SEC Network actually started showing Alabama, Florida, LSU games against UT, I would think about having both satellites. But by then, DirecTV would have made a deal. Someone would cave.

$.02

EDIT: The DVR doesn't bother me. I can record two things at once, and fast forward and rewind when and how I want.

I wouldn't give DirecTV a 5 star rating at all on it, but its satisfactory for me. Probably a 3.5 from me.

DOUBLE EDIT: I have used the Dish DVR, and I do have to admit it really is better and a 5 star rating is actually reasonable for it.

That's the difference, I am only concerned with the Vols, SEC Football and Basketball. I watch the NFL and NBA too but I won't pay extra for either. The Vols are my team, and everything else is secondary for me. That why I switched to Dish, because I don't need anything that Directv offers, and I need what Dish is offering with the SEC Network.

As long as you are happy and get to see the Vols, that is all that matters. GBO!
