Discussion of gay rights, religion, abortion...oh yeah, and Pete Rose

Is it? I have no dog in this fight. I'm just wondering.

The big bang is a theory, that while may not be right, is at the very least an unknown. The fact that the universe is expanding and getting cooler is evidence that it can be regressed back to some starting point. Whether it is the big bang or not is open to debate.

We can categorically state that snakes don't talk and seas don't part.

You might want to rethink that...

When I went to google and searched images for nick saban that was the first one that popped up, from volnation, no less.

It works on a couple of different levels, no?

If one is willing to believe in the God of creation, it's not that big of a stretch to believe in the parting of a sea.

That is exactly what I said before. Since when is rationality and reason required for religious faith?

from link above. end of discussion?

You're not seriously referencing this article as scientifically objective and unbiased are you?

I love the hypocrisy of the website stating it is out to disprove the "myth of evolution" and state a quote that says:

There is little disagreement that male homosexual orientation is not a Mendelian trait. In fact, a priori, one would expect the role of a major gene in male homosexual orientation to be limited because of the strong selective pressures against such a gene. It is unlikely that a major gene underlying such a common trait could persist over time without an extraordinary counterbalancing mechanism (1993, 262:2064).

...in order to push its religious agenda.

Absolutely ridiculous.

perhaps I need to do more research. i didn't realize that the human genome project was religion based.

That still doesn't even come close to proving that homosexuality is a choice.

If you believe in God, you believe in free will. You also believe (read in the Bible) that homosexuality is a sin. Why would a God that doesn't want you to sin, physically make you a sinner?

However, we are all sinners. Gays should be loved by us all, Christian or not. That doesn't mean we have to accept their lifestyle or not have a desire to teach them the error of their ways. If they still choose to do what is wrong, that is their choice. (Back to free will) Jesus just taught us to plant the seed, what is done with the seed we cannot control.

My only complaint is similar to mania's. If a Christian were to stand up there and say something against homosexuality, then that person would be persecuted. Equal rights aren't/can't always be equal.

I don't believe in God, so your argument is meaningless to me.

I am not doubting than some people are predisposed to be attracted to the same sex, much in the same way people are prone to addition of drugs, alcohol etc.

However I do believe people can overcome this desire much like any other desire. As Ephesians 4:27 says don't give the devil a foothold.

Nobody ever became an addict without first making the choice to try the drug. Nobody ever became an adulterer, sexually impure, or homosexual without action.

By action, or giving the devil a foothold, one can be overtaken with one's desires.

Romans 1:26-27 (New International Version)

24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

8Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

well, if you're not born that way, and it's not a choice, I guess it must be an affliction of some kind.

So I mean how many people that are breaking it all down in this thread know a gay or lesbian couple or just know someone that is gay or lesbian?

I have gay friends!!!!

No I don't have any personal gay friends but have spent extended periods of time with a couple gay couples/people in my life.

This discussion has not even touched on the fact that there is no ONE reason people are gay, some will tell you they are gay by choice others will tell you they always felt attracted to the same sex, it sounds to me like there are multiple factors involved at the least.
