Discussion of gay rights, religion, abortion...oh yeah, and Pete Rose

I'm not professing any sides here but I'm wondering (not curious lol)...do you believe there were no homosexuals back then? Or that they were just too afraid to admit it?

How many of today's politician's are gay or bi or flavor-of-the day?

oh i don't doubt there have been homosexuals thru out history. do i think there were as many? no

do u think there were? it wasn't a popular thing to do, i don't believe ppl are "born gay". that's a ridiculous statement

Can you support your assertion with anything factual? Or is this just your opinion?

How is that a ridiculous statement? Did you just wake up one morning and say: "I think I'll like women today"? No, it's instinctual, genetic, born-in. How can it not be the case for gay people?

Gays can do whatever they want. As far as the whole gay marriage thing.. I will NOT vote for it until I see PRECISE wording that churches are protected from discrimination suits for refusing to perform ceremonies for gay couples.

As far as Sean Penn goes, he can take his self righteous, condescending ass and jump into a lake full of rabid alligators. I can't stand Hollywood's self importance, and how they have 4011 award shows to make themselves feel important, and he is a prime example. He makes his living by reciting memorized lines in front of a camera... that does not give him any authority in any kind of world affair.

Well said.

I'll concede, I have no proof -- it appears that you do though. Please enlighten me.

It was a joke.

However this what I think in regards to being born gay.

If one is born gay, how does that explain bi-sexuals?

Is there just a "select" few born that way that are the real gays?

The Bible clearly states homosexuality is a sin, no different than any other sexual impurity. I do no think God would create humans that can't overcome (with His help) a specific sin.

Also if there is a gene or what not that causes people to be gay, instead of encouraging that shouldn't we try to find a cure?

There.

Since volbybirth can't prove it, and you can't prove it, let's talk about where you are forming your opinion. Why not just state this is what your really basing your opinion on, instead of coming up with silly rhetorical questions in a futile effort to logically prove your position?

The "because God says so" reason should suffice just fine. Since when did God or the Bible need rationality?

It all depends on the "gay individual" some will tell you since puberty they felt attraction to men, others will tell you their attraction to men or women of the same sex came later in life. To say that all gay people are born that way is as wrong as saying all gay people decided to be gay by choice.

As I stated I was joking with him about proving it.

That has never sufficed on this board.

You want to talk about rationality Mr. Big Bang?

Mania started him a gay rights thread?

How appropriate.

actually no i didn't start this thread. it something that i commented in the academy awards thread when the guy for milk went on stage and made a huge speech about it. it was over the top. none the less i'm done w/ this thread for the simple fact that we just keep going in circles.

Ah yes, the "you can't answer this specific thing, so your whole thought process is wrong!" defense. The big bang is more believable than talking snakes and seas parting, and that is saying something.

I thought we were talking about opinions on homosexuality?

No way.

The thread dare I say evolved. :)

Is it? I have no dog in this fight. I'm just wondering.

Either way we are encoded with sociological traits from tribal times. This is much more than a social or religious issue. It is hardwiring...survival of the fittest etc. What good is a member of a small group of people depending on reproduction for survival?

Right or wrong it will take generations to accept this as an appropriate lifestyle. Sure religion will continue to fight it, and there are some of us that are just tired of the overblown press. Personally I think In Bruges was robbed in the original screenplay category, and I also think Mickey Rourke was robbed as well.

Yes, I'm conservative but I have Libertarian leanings on many social issues including this one. As a conservative I do get tired of the whole message. It is like having to watch 30 films about a black man getting lynched or prosecuted for a crime he didn't commit only to have a white attorney save his skin. It is played out. Kaput. I can't spend any emotional energy on it.

To further my soap box...if I was gay...I'd be worn out over all of the stereotypical token gay people that Hollywood notoriously adds to nearly every script.
